Hi!

Being a motoring phillestine I thought I'd ask..

What do people reckon to these? Its the Japanese version of the MX5, and would need importing, or buying second hand.

I quite like the idea of buying an mx5, as a regular car whilst I do up my triumph which will probably take me years!

..I personally think MX5's are a little boring - However, they are still good, reliable cars.

Most owners, keep them for years... simply because they just don't go wrong!!

The Eunos imports often have better specifications than the UK equivalent, but insurance can be higher with some groups. Excluding that, there's not much in it apart from the badge on the back.
The key risks you face with a Eunos would be lack of accurate history. I've heard of imports being given UK speedos on arrival and there being zero information prior to that. Having said that, the Japanese tend to take a lot of care over their cars, so on a direct import, should be good.

I'd suggest you treat any car you view on it's own merits.

In what way?

Simply put you can't do better for the money!

For me, a little boring in looks and interior, however I agree, its very VERY hard to do better for the money, hence why my attention keeps returning to them.

A friend of mine has a special edition mx5 with an interior designed by some bloke with a fancy name. Its higher spec and man is it fun to drive, thats why I want one :p

Jasper Conran Edition at a guess :)

Siliconslave (Sam) has one :)

and its great :D

granted the mrk1 has got a slightly dull interior, but i'd like to see a car with a better one from the period (excluding the 'lude i guess) in a similar price bracket. But then interor looks wasn't what the mark1 was about really, more filling the gap MG left back in the 60s - a two seater proper roadster which is fun to drive.

Most owner keep them for years cause they can't find anything more fun and envolving to drive that isn't twice the price or even half the relyability :)

out of interest what do you find "boring" about them? and is that from driving them or just looking/reading?

lol

Well... They are boring in the sense that the inside is like most jap cars... a bit dull and basic.... They drive ok - But they don't feel fast like a real sports car....but the seating position is little sporty.

They should have made a Turbo version...! ;)

They did make a factory turbo version, from reading that you really do sound like someone who hasn't driven one.

I may do, your observations seem to lack any sustenance, what you have said i could say about any car without driving it :)

more to the point - You didn't like what I said :)

Erm you must be the only one then, the motoring press loves em, most of the general public loves and enthusiasts love em.If anything they actually feel a lot faster than they are.

It's only my opinion - is that not allowed? :)

i'd have said disagreed with what you said, enquired what you based your judgement on and how you would quanitfy it? Honestly i've heard the mx5 called allot of things, but boring isn't one of them. I'm just interested what causes you to say it is?
