MX5 Owners in here....bring your curling tongs

Collected my MX5 today & took her out for a drive.

Damn it's such a nice drive, really fun & responsive - really glad I settled on one for a first car - pleased as punch :) (thanks to the good advice on here may I add when I asked a few questions on the subject of a first car!)

Going to install clear sight lights/reflectors/blinkers - replace the main headlights with xenon bulbs /w DRL rings & a few exterior chrome edging :D.

Will get some pictures up later today.

On a side note, the roll bar isn't a very nice metal colour & I'm considering painting/spraying it black - I'm pretty experienced at painting generally but not painting roll bars/car parts - anything I should be aware of?.

I picked up my MX5 just last Mon and it's been :D every time I drive it :)

I'll pop a few more pics up of mine up as well when I get my clear sight lights/reflectors/blinkers fitted along with my private plate and when I've had a chance to claybar and polish it.

Nice :).

I got the side reflectors done, but nothing else yet (need a load of wire to do the electrical stuff) - going to wire in the 4 reflectors into the indicators with yellow bulbs :).

Also ordered some LED side-light bulbs to go along with the main lamp upgrade..., this is going to get expensive at this rate lol....

Me and the gf picked up a lovely V-Spec BRG Mk1 on Saturday... It's an auto as we are sharing the car and my gf has an auto license, but so far it seems to be a good box!

No rust on the car at all, new hood last year. Overall an awesome car! Unsure on the black wheels, so when money permits we will get these changed. I'm hoping for some nice BBS ones!

The black section of the dash is in poor condition, so I'm looking to sort this soon. Does anyone know if the black part comes away from the dash (as in clips off), please? Cheers guys!

Looking nice ^ ^ , I love the BBS on mine - I'd definitely recommend getting them!.

Urgh... keep buying little modifications for my MX5..., need to stop already....

On the subject of spending money on my car..., I've been eyeing up getting two white racing stripes along the top of my black eunos s-special..., is this a terrible idea or utterly awesome?. (in two minds...), from what I've seen mk1's with spoilers look great with racing stripes.

Thanks bud! I will definitely be aiming for a set of those BBS wheels when I can.

If done right the stripes can look great imo. Have you found any pics of an s-special with stripes that is near enough the same as yours?

I'm not a fan of stripes to be honest but it might look alright and a lot of people obviously do like them.

Mattbill, yeah that bit clips off, i'm not too sure how it is in the mk1 but on my mk2.5 there are 2 screws on either side of the console in the footwells (covered by plastic covers), one under the electric window switches and then 2 in the storage compartment. Then unscrew the gearstick and the middle section should lift off. From there there were 2 screws at the bottom under where your stereo is and then the surround just clips off.

With yours being a mk1 auto I’m not sure it it's the same but there should be guides online :)

Whoops, my bad! It's the top part of the dash as opposed to the centre console area. I'm hoping this is an switchable part?

Thanks very much bud :). That also needs attention so that's good to know too!

Not a great day, I just heard that the rear bumper for my MX5 finally arrived after almost 3 months wait (dealer surface shipped it from JP), which I was pretty happy about, and then some tool in an E46 reversed into the front of me at the Mall, cracking my front bumper in several places.
At least he admitted it and his insurance will pay, but it means another 3 months wait to get my car finished and so ill probably miss half of the nice weather season..

before you ask why it takes so long to get the parts, the NB was never sold in the UAE so they don't bother to keep any stock.. Shipping normally from the UK or US costs about twice what the bumper costs.

I took it in for a service anyway and to get some other jobs done: 1) swap incorrect wiper stalk for the correct one with Cruise Control on it, 2) read my immobilizer serial and get the password from Mazda so I can program a new key, and 3) swap my standard trunk springs for Mazdaspeed ones, in anticipation of fitting my MSM trunk spoiler, and until then, a full remote opening trunk, I think. ;)
