MX5 Owners in here....bring your curling tongs

Might find it easier to sell with the roof sorted, although I don't know whether you would get the money back from fixing it.

Has it got a fairly big/obvious hole in it?

It's all stitched back up and water tight, but the whole rear has been home re-stitched in, and there is two knifed slits that have been stitched up... it's not pretty, but it's functional

Weirdly the one that sold quickest when I was looking (so quickly I didn't even get to see it) was one that was advertised as needing a new roof. Wasn't particularly cheap either at £1495.

The end result looks good. One question though, on the drivers side was that whacking great hole (the one filled with black stuff) just filled over? I'd have thought that more metal would have been welded in there but I'm no expert on bodywork :p

Your correct there was new metal on both sides I just didn't put the pictures up showing it :p. The black stuff goes on after welding the new metal in to fill any tiny holes left by the welding.

I'm hoping mine will go relatively easily as it's very rust free, but I will need to either sell at a keen price or get the roof done before selling it.

Theres a company down in Swansea that's gets rave reviews for prices and quality of hoods. Jack something or other.I'll dig out the info. Iirc a mohair roof was around 225.

Yeah, I know the one, £200 is a big portion of the £1500 at absolute max I'd be getting.

Met up with Voxination just now and took some photos of our cars - spent most of today cleaning it, so nice to photo it before it gets dirty again by tomorrow night.

Beautiful shot that Vox took (also in the cleaning thread...hope he doesn't mind me hotlinking it)

As you can see his photo skills far outmatch mine :/

I would like to scratch the MX-5 itch, but at 6"4' I think I'd feel a right twonk driving it (even more so than an EP3 when engaging vtec, yo).

I'm about 6"2 ish, so sit with my seat all the way back and with the top down can feel the wind blowing over the top of the windscreen on the top of my head!

I'm dieing to have a play in one of these although im 6"7 anyone here this tall or taller and able to drive one? More bothered about knees and steering wheel.

I'm only 6' 1" and I find it a bit of a squeeze with my knees against the wheel. That said if it was an issue I could get a smaller dished wheel and gain a bit of clearance. That is in a mk1.

I tried a mk3 and found it even more of a squeeze but I didn't adjust the wheel as it was on a dealers stand at a show so I jumped in out of curiosity and wanted to be out again before a salesman started trying the patter :p

I tried a mk3 in a garage showroom and found it quite s struggle to get in and out. Might have just been the seat position but the sills seems really high so i felt like i had to really life my leg up to get out. Then again it was a very awkward spot on the forecourt and i only have about 40cm between the car and a wall!

I had more room in a '98 model with cloth seats than i do in my '03 model with heated leather but i eventually just accepted i'd never be hugely comfy. Might try and pick up some cheat mk1 cloth seats as they apparently sit much lower in the car. Or maybe even pick up a cheap bucket seat as its not too tricky to swap seats over every now and then!

This isn't sounding good really :( bloody hate being long lol.

Would love a little mk1. Which i can tinker about and learn as i go with them being cheap.
No point if i cant enjoy and be comfy in her. Anyone with an MK1 around Leeds area i can have 2 seconds 'fit test'.

Been wanting to post in this thread for ages now :p

After a visit to Newcastle on Thur I "should" be heading back down again on Mon to pick up my MX5. I'm wondering if anyone on here has any recommendations for keeping the roof water tight please?

Pictures will hopefully follow soon:

This stuff on the seals can't do any harm. My one drips a bit where the two parts of the seal join if there has been a lot of rain.

I need those wheels in my life

Took my one for a little country road jaunt last night. Even though it is bone stock (bar the K&N filter and exhaust) the only mod it needs... better headlights! I think I'll drop in some better bulbs and then keep my peepers peeled for some Raybrigs.

Watch out I'm coming to steal your wheels, they look in much better condition than mine.

I removed my arch liners on Friday. I could have easily filled a decent sized plant pot with the amount of soil and other crap I found in the gap at the back of the front wing.

Having a coffee before going to make a start on rustproofing the sills.
