MX5 Owners in here....bring your curling tongs

One each of Maxeh's & mine :)

loving the MK1's Alex - I'd have bought one myself but I wouldn't be able to hang my plate on it:

My one is in stock "LOL check out the wheel arch gaps" trim and my one scrapes on some speed bumps :(

As for the question about running one daily. Over the last year I did my 60 mile round trip in my mk1 for a total of 4 1/2 months dues to circumstances out of my control and while it was quite nice after work when it was a nice day in general it got on my nerves. Averaging 32 mpg was a bit of a let down too but that only really equated to another £12 a week in fuel. This is compared to our Grande Punto 1.4.

While clearing the garage on the Weekend I found 2 sets of mx5 hardtop wall hangers, does anyone know how to identify if they're for the mk1-2 or mk3? Also any idea what they're worth on eBay?

Gave mine a proper clean today, first time I've done it myself, usually I'm one for the local cheap hand car wash, but I'm fed up of picking up little scratches and the like so decided to do it myself...

Some pics :)

Really happy with the car now, the mods have really helped it...

Racing beat 4-1 manifold (removed primary cat)
Milltek exhaust inc sports cat and mid pipe
AEM intake
EcuTek remap
Meister R coilovers (corner weighted and with a proper geo setup)
Cobalt uprated front/rear anti roll bars
Rota Force 17x8 wheels with AD08Rs
Cosworth streetmaster brake pads with braided lines and good fluid

I'd love to turbo it but the mk3 options currently available are all on the pricey side (the best kit is the BBR one but its £6k), and I'd need a new clutch too. None of the turbo kits available now are modular or designed for a second hand turbo so its not like you can amass the kit bit by bit either like most people do with the earlier cars. Skuzzle Motorsort in Winchester are doing a modular kit that they hope they can sell for about £3k but its early days yet in terms of development.

BBR are meant to be doing a 200bhp n/a kit for the mk3 too which is almost finished, these parts could be added to what I've got already and would be pretty nice....Blink motorsport are also doing work on a set of parts that should work with my car and hopefully get 200bhp as well...so theres other options for more power even without a turbo. Realistically it'll be another year before I spend any more money on this...so will see how things pan out with all the parts the tuners are working on.

Ha :D

No issue with Rotas...they use this design as one of the control wheels in the Max5 MX5 racing series (alongside the OEM wheels, and Team Dynamic Pro Race 1.2), if they're strong enough for a race car they're good enough for me. The Rota Force is a copy of the Advan RS but its slightly heavier, on the up side it does not cost three zillion pounds per wheel either though.

In an ideal world I'd have a set of black Enkei RPF1s in the same size and fitment as these, maybe a slightly lower offset to get more poke on the rears, but at the time I bought these nobody was importing the Enkeis for sensible money (which Cyberspeeds now do) and I wasn't going to spend £1k+ on wheels, not when these cost £560 odd.

As for the AD08Rs.....I like them but have never owned a car with track biased rubber before to compare with, they are noisy but they grip so so well in the dry. Not exactly confidence inspiring when its very wet mind, but that is to be expected I suppose.

With all his engine mods he should be about 185 I believe. Looks like a similar package to Roddisons which is sold as 185.

Its about 180bhp...the mk3 doesnt make as much power as the facelift 'mk3.5' onwards as the cylinder head doesnt flow so well. The mk3.5 engine also has stronger internals.

The remap alone wouldn't make much power gains by itself (maybe 6-8bhp if thats you're only mof) really you need the manifold for that, thats where the biggest gains come from, but it makes the throttle response much sharper and it also removes some of the nannying in lower gears which limit how fast the throttle plate opens to try and reduce wheelspin. Overall it feels much more eager and sharper to drive...with the manifold added you gain torque everywhere and it revs out much better too. Its so relaxing to drive around town now with the extra torque and better pickup.
