MX5 Owners in here....bring your curling tongs

Maybe its a personal thing. But for me its perfect with 4 fingers above my head to the roof. Depends what floats your boat I guess. I like that its snug glove like fit. I did 3 hours last night and never felt cramped....

Guys, I need to replace the car battery in my MX-5 (MK3.5). What should I get and more importantly, what size actually fits? The sizes that are listed when I put my car reg on car parts website are apparently too big (063) so I'm unsure what the correct size should be.

What is a sensible price to be looking at for a 2000-2002 Mk2.5?

Are they fairly solid cars? I know rust is something to look for, if there's a bit on the rear arch is that a major problem?

Its an 053 fitment you want, the Yuasa YBX5053 was the best specced battery when I was looking! Its what I have in mine, bought online from thebatteryshop.co.uk.

I drove the new MX5 and I'm 6ft 5 - drove it for about 4 hours and wasn't overly uncomfortable!

I have to say I struggle with my wife's Mk3.5 getting comfy and have never really found a good seating position that makes me at ease. I am 6'1" and I can never seem to get the seat low enough or at the right angle. This is probably down to time in the car as I mostly drive it on odd occasions. I also struggle with my MK1 race car too, oddly and we have had real trouble getting me low enough in the car to the extent that my lid doesn't sit above the roll cage!

Going to probably put a thin carbon seat in there because there is probably 3 inches of sponge on the Sparco's I have in there at present! :D

My Mk1 passed its MOT yesterday, on advisory was a slightly corroded brake pipe.

Also done:

Engine Oil
Engine Oil filter
Gearbox Oil
Diff Oil
Fuel filter

Ready to go for the summer

Replaced the Meister R zeta s coilovers on my car with the BBR custom wound lowering springs and revalved Koni dampers.... Definite improvement thus far, better ride and more compliant for road use which is what I wanted, but still very controlled and grippy feeling. The extra compliance means less wheel skip over rough surfaces which was definitely felt before, in this case I think suspension that is 'softer' will make for a quicker road car. Definitely clear from making this switch as to why so few road cars use linear springs and pillow ball top mounts... The progressive springs setup and rubber top mounts I have now feel much more pleasant on the road. Coilovers for the track only I reckon.

Also booked it in for some engine work next month, 220+bhp naturally aspirated is the goal with a somewhat fruity soundtrack ;)

^ I'd like to send mine to bbr for some super 200 love and attention, but the price is just too much for me at the moment.

220bhp N/A in an MX5 must be so much fun.

Yea I found I had more space in the Mk4 than the Mk3 - my mum has the Mk3 and I can't really fit at all!

Well I finally fixed the idle droop on my supercharged 2.5, thanks to Frozen(?) who shared some settings, I never did reply to say those settings on mine are greyed out. But finally solved it by increasing the revs at which CLI kicks in and giving it a bit of dashpot.

I also managed to squeeze a strut brace in there, the charge pipes were in the way, but a bit of jiggery pokery and a length of drive belt cut to size and fitted around the piping to avoid it rubbing against the strut brace got it in there, it's just tightened up the front a bit and given me more confidence on turn in.

The drive belt i used was the one I just replaced and while it was off I stripped and cleaned all the pulleys which appears to have stopped an intermittent squeal.

Falling in love with it again now after contemplating giving up.

No worries. I must have missed a step.

If you open up the Closed-Loop Idle settings dialog (Where the dashpot adder is) theres and option to use last value or table.

If you change that to "Use Initial Value Table" you will able to tune the inital value table rather than it using its last known "good" value. This will stop the revs holding high if you start driving it before its warmed up.

Feel free to drop me a trust if you ever have any questions, I'm by no means an expert but I've done all the tuning mine from day one and its almost OEM in feel now

Thanks, i did read elsewhere that someone who knew their stuff didn't like Last Known Value, but that was how Reverent and BBR left it so I didn't change it.

But yes, I do have to let it settle a few seconds even when warm else it revs too high if I just jump in and turn the key and pull off, so I might give that a try next.

I'm slowly learning bits as I go, but it's slow progress with the amount of spare time I have and the noise the car makes, revving the engine on the drive trying to sort the closed loop out is a bit anti social!

Purely a case of buy cheap buy twice, no? If you had bought Ohlins/GT1 you would have a setup that can do both, I know mine is lovely on my 100 mile commute a fair section cross country.

Look forward to your write up on the ITB setup, currently flipping the coin on my choices for next year.
