MX5 Owners in here....bring your curling tongs

Given I'm back in the UK for the time being, I'm off to view this on saturday. Seems to be pretty solid, just put 2 new rears on as well. Any thoughts?

Went and viewed it today; the driver's side rear sill has a little surface rust showing, but apart from that it's pretty clean! So made an offer and it was accepted, pick it up on monday. Managed to get insurance down to £243 Fully Comp for the year as well, winner!

I never hold my car on the clutch but yesterday someone was faffing about and I ended up holding it on a very slight incline for 10 - 15 seconds or so. When I went to pull away the clutch seemed to drag a fair bit. Under normal use (and subsequent abnormal use doing the usual high gear low speed WOT type tests) it doesn't slip at all. Is this still a sign that the clutch is on its way out or did I just get the friction surface a bit hot from slipping it?

AFAIK it is the original 20 year old item but it has only done 42k.

Could be the slave cylinder. Very common on NA/NBs.

Cheap enough from MX5Parts and aren't difficult to change
I did both the master and slave last year but I wonder if I managed to leave a bit of air in there as I had a nightmare trying to bleed it. Quick shifts used to give me a little kick up the bum as I dropped the clutch but now it seems like there is a slight delay to the clutch engaging come to think of it.

As for the mk4, I've just signed up for an open day at Mazda UK via the owners club so I should get a chance to take one for a spin. That said, the last time I sat in a mk3 I couldn't really fit my legs in it so hopefully the mk4 is a bit more accommodating :p TBH though I'll be more interested in the Mazda 3 in terms of a future purchase :o
So, today I took out a 2.0 Mk4 Convertible and all I can say is... OMG I WANT ONE! :( I've heard the journo sound bytes of "the spiritual successor to the mk1" etc. and the guy was asking me what I drove as he was leading me to the car. When I pointed to my mk1 he just smiled and said "you're going to love this".

Honestly it was all the best bits of my mk1 but with all the annoyances removed. It really did drive like a mk1 made for today. I'd be interested to take out a 1.5 as I've always said that if I was to get a mk4 it would be the smaller engine because I like to work it to squeeze the power out but now I'm not so sure. Being able to just pin the throttle and always have something there was a bit of a revelation. It was still fun to spin it up when the road opened up but it was a something you could choose to do rather than it being a necessity. I went in open minded but I really was blown away by the thing.

My only criticism was that the seats felt really firm and gave me bum ache soon into the test drive. That might have been the result of nearly 2 hours in my mk1 before hand though.
