MX5 Owners in here....bring your curling tongs

Exactly my thoughts. Definitely felt like a grown up mk1. I just about squeezed into my mk1, long legs and arms; this was perfect. Decent amount of power as well, more than enough for day to day. The only criticism I'd have is that the engine note was a bit flat - I'm sure that could be fixed though ;)

Yeah, I've got quite long legs but definitely fit much better in the mk4. The thing almost felt tailored :p

I honestly wish I didn't enjoy it as much as I did. I don't drive many current cars but it has been a long time since I've driven anything new that I actually enjoyed being at the wheel of. I wouldn't test drive one under normal circumstances as I'm not in the market for one and I don't like wasting peoples time, but if the opportunity came up to take a 1.5 or the Fiat 1.4T versions out for a spin I'd be all over it.

Front end fully polybushed and brake fluid replaced with ATE TYP200, should take a bit more stick on track without boiling it all over the engine bay!

Does Anyone Know What Is Behind The Small Black Plastic Panel On Under The Boot Lid?

When I open the boot , under the lid there is a black plastic panel in between the two Reg plate lights

Anyone know whats behind it? Or how to remove it?

I'm wanting to screw a rear camera to it but dont want to damage anything

Thanks

I reckon it's a blanking plate for a number plate light. In countries with the narrower, almost square number plates, Mazda can simply fit one number plate light in the middle whereas in the UK we need to illuminate a long thin plate so have to use 2 lights.

Just a theory.

New pair of AD08Rs fitted to the rear of mine today ready for Blyton on Sunday. Then, all going well it's getting sold and going to its new owner next weekend :(

Found out its for a Advanced keyless entry module for the boot if you have it. If not then its just a blank plastic cover. To remove open the boot, facing the blnking plate slide it to the left and it just pops out.

Installed my camera there tonight. Just need to wire it into the reverse light tomorrow. Then I'll finally screw it in place into the plastic plate.

Ahh, so that's what it is for.

Looking good, I know the cam is integrated with the head unit but do you have any plans for a hard dash cam install?

I was also tempted, but I can't afford paying almost 7k (They don't include VAT in their pricing) when I purchased the car for 3k.

I'll be sat here waiting until someone else releases a kit, a company called Revent in central Europe were supposed to be releasing one this summer, just a case of wait and see now.
Revent manifolds won't be bad but won't match quality of the BBR. I believe G19 engineering have an NC development car and are going to be doing a cast manifold, their mk1/mk2 is second to none other than maybe flyin miata

Collected my MX5 from BBR today... :)

Engine spec is now:

BBR 'Super 200' spec cams
BBR custom EcuTek remap
Racing Beat 4-1 stainless exhaust manifold
Milltek exhaust system (mid pipe including 200 cell cat, and backbox)
Pipercross panel filter

The lower lines show how it performed when it went in to BBR, this was before the cams were fitted, the car also had a different map (not a very good one), and a dip in power between 4k and 6.5k rpm caused by a faulty variable inlet manifold runner control mechanism. This fault took a while to diagnose, not something common on these cars..

Before - 174.5 bhp and 150lb ft
After - 200.3bhp and 166lb ft

The curve shows the gains are substantial across the rev range, peak torque at 3450rpm makes it pretty effortless to drive, and it even drives like a standard car at very low revs (will roll along with no throttle in 1st/2nd gears in traffic etc). It drives more smoothly, and is a good bit faster as well.

Cost ?

Don't get me wrong I'm not questioning BBR's quality and the time and money that goes into development for them.

But still, 7k for a turbo?
