Microsoft® Office Home and Student 2007 60-Day Trial Version - Put my Licence Number in (my Free copy I got in my Deal).. so not a 60-Day Trial anymore!!..

Software included
Recovery partition (including possibility to recover system, applications and drivers separately); Optional re-allocation of recovery partition; Recovery CD/DVD creation tool - I made my Recovery DVD's (3 in total.. but you can order them from HP if you want) and re-allocated the 11Gb partition back into the main Vista one!!..

Symantec™ Norton Internet Security™ 2009 (60 days live update) - Un-Installed immediatly I turned on the Laptop and installed Avast Pro instead!!..

Everything else is as it came from the factory!!.. apart from the addition of my installs (AutoCAD 2009, Corel, Photoshop CS3 etc...)

Gorgeous machine, just had a fondle of the 18* at a high street shop but no 16"'s unfortunately.
Wondering if you've gamed on it at all yet, what games and how well does it cope at full res and if it doesn't cope at full res how well does the screen cope with lower resolutions?
It'll be a huge step up for me but like yourself I've had a really really lousy last 18mths and it'd make my bedsit feel a lot more homely if I had something like this to come home to (since the bird is in the usa and I'm not).

Edit: Noise and heat issues are of interest too, completely forgot about those.

My local 'Red Shirt' shop had both the 16" and 18.4" versions in over the weekend!!... and the 18.4" looks HOOOOOGE!!... next to the 16"... but I'm still happy I got the one I did!!.. if for nowt else its a lighter unit to lug around.. and my Laptop Ruck-Sac (made for 15.4" Laptops) wouldn't fit the HDX18, where my HDX16 fits quite snugly!!..

I'm not a gamer... so I've not run any games on it yet.. I think I've only got a copy of (the original) AvP and Lemmings 3D ( :D ) I might see if either of em run tonight!!... I do (sometimes) have a play in Second Life with the Graphics on High/Extreme and sitting on the 'Beach' watching the 'Sea' I get no Lag at all!!!..

It does however, run AutoCAD 2009 (a notorious Graphics and Memory Hog) seamlessly!... Photoshop etc... are a breeze!!... and of course 1080p material (be it on Bluray or Hard Drive) run without a single hic-up!!...

I've so far not heard the fan running.. unless I stick my head right ontop of the keyboard!!... and it gets no where as hot as my old Athlon4 (1Ghz old skool) laptop!!...

I'll post a few Core-Temp etc... screenies later!!..

Sim :)

Much appreciated. I'm a half life/IL2 fanboy (or was 2yrs ago when I last gamed) which are both getting a bit long in the tooth.
I'd be doing video/photo/audio editing on a regular basis and I'm reasonably familiar with autocad having used to maintain a laptop for my dad (p4-3.0ghz 9700 radeon) which run cad with ease. (sometimes 4 of it at the same time when my dad forgot what he was doing).

Which version of AutoCAD??.. every version up to 2008 could run easily on a standard P4 (2.4Ghz) with about 1Gb RAM... 2009 however will struggle on a P4 2.4 (I know this as I've got one at work and its a Dog!!) and anything less than 2Gb RAM (DDR2 preferably) will struggle!!...

2009 runs like a dream on the HDX16.. but then with a Dual Core 2.26 CPU and 4Gb DDR2-RAM... I'd expect it to!!... :D

Plus the 64bit version of AutoCAD is sooooo much faster than any other version I've used... Apart from the 'Old Skool' DOS versions (I've been using AutoCAD since R4 in DOS)...

in regards to gaming on the HDX16 i've recently installed HL2 on mine just out of personal interest to myself (last game i really played on PC for a few years).

As youd expexct GFX on full at 1920x1080 looks extemely good but the only downside i found was the hideous loading time inbetween the gaming and cutscene parts of the game (not really cutscenes but parts where you are talking to that bird or whoever,i couldnt think of a better word for it).

When i first had the game many moons ago i played on a P4 2.4 @ 3.2 Ghz and a radeon 9600 non pro GFX card with regular ide Hdd (7200 rpm) and loading time was nothing more than a split second jerk.

I assume this is down to limitataions of a 5400 rpm Hdd.

Cheers for that. I'll certainly be considering sticking a faster hdd in, although I believe this has an e-sata port so an external might be an option to run games from? Have to look into that as I'm a bit out of touch with all this modern tech!

Yay... Another one!... Which model did you get??... Mines the HDX16-1005EA... but theres the 1010EA... and now the 1101EA just to confuse things (I think thats got a 2.4Ghz CPU!!)..

I don't mind Vista!... wish it was 7 though!!.. I'm loving the Beta on my Old Clunker!!..

it's the first one.. I think... hang on (goes to read side of box... 1010EA.

Not saying how much but only 1 store near me had any in stock, other than the 18's. Got it on offset terms so I won't have to pay anything for a looooooooooooong time as I'm flat broke :D

Only dislike, apart from vista, is the keyboard feels a little soft and there is way to much travel in the mouse buttons but I'll be setting up with an external mouse in a few days for when I'm sat at home in my pokey little room.

Going to be buying an 18" laptop on Thursday/Friday depending which day i get my money. Don't know whether to buy this or the Acer 8930G, both look really nice. Once i've decided that it's then which version to get, should i go for the top end Quad Core, hmmmmm....

The HP has better build quality than the Acer by far. For me, that's very important.
As for quad-core, depends what you're doing. If you want to use it for testing and run lots of virtual machines etc. then maybe Quad would be useful. Otherwise top of the range Core 2 Duo would be my choice due to the slow(er) clock speed of the quad (2.0Ghz).
