My car set on fire, and I've been had !

In hindsight does that hold true???

An HPi check simply tells you wether the car has outstading finance, or has been subjet to a total loss claim. It doesn't tell if the vehcle is roadworthy, or if it is liable to catch fire on the way home. It's a useful service if you are purchasing a vehicle whose value could be significantly affected by accident history, or is valuable enough to potentialy have outstanding finance. It's not very useful for old bangers worth a few hundred quid.

A Range Rover for £350 is going to be a bit of a shed, and therefore not a wise purchase unless you are knowledgable enough to check for potential problems. As a private sale, unless the seller knowingly misrepresented the vehicle, you have no comeback.

It's a Landy (well, a Rangey). They catch fire. Buying one for £350 is asking for trouble, and if you're not mechanically minded enough to spot potential problems like this, you shouldn't be surprised when it all goes wrong.

Can't help but laugh at your haggling with him over the refund! You must have sounded so desperate!

So you bought a car from a guy who sold it to you from "a mates house" and who you cant track down now, whats more he gave you the log book to send off...........hmmm - id be checking to make sure it isnt stolen, a very dodgy deal if you ask me.

I can't believe you have asked for your money back that is classic. If a £350 car got me home I would be seriously surprised and very chuffed.

If I sold a motor for £350 and the buyer came back I would think their has got to be something wrong with them. When people sell cars that cheap it is generally because they are at the end of their serviceable life.

Old Range Rovers are two a penny so why do you want to do one up???

Nope, thats not him. He's the one who bought 3 different Vectras, all dogs ;)

Maz, seriously, same advice to you as always - STOP BUYING CARS YOU ARE NOT VERY GOOD AT IT.

what about the one that he sold and mysterioly saw it after an accident and took photos?, also i think he managed to spin a 2.0 auto omega

Let me get this straight, you purchased a used car from a private individual, as a project, for just £350, and are wasting hours on end trying to track the seller down over a fault that will cost £50 to repair?

Is this a joke?

Is there any tax or mot on the car? If there aint no MOT surely it means in needs work.. I think your just moaning because youve bought something thinking you had a bargin.. when in reality.. it does actually need work.

So you bought a Land Rover for £350 from someone who sounds a bit dodgey and you are surprised that it wasn't in perfect conditon. :p

What were you expecting to do if you did find him.

My thoughts exactly, a £350 range rover? And it needs a £50 repair, OMG SHOCK HORROR.

I am looking at spending around 15 grand on a range rover in the next few weeks, and even at this price point they are miley and often without FSH.
