Hi

I have 2 x tabby cats. They have always been fed Whiskas dry cat food. Yesterday we ran out and it was pretty late with only a hand full of shops open.

I bought Vitacat dry cat food, and neither cat will touch it, they are hungry and are wanting feeding, but they are refusing to touch this cat food.

It got me thinking.... about why... I don't really understand. Surely dry cat food is all very similiar in taste (not that I'm going to try) I always thought the differences were mostly the nutrient content etc.

Seems I have two snobs to deal with.

P.S. bought some whiskas this morning, they are well fed again.

I made the mistake of giving my wife's cat (gf at the time) Sheba cat food. The little bugger didn't go back to Whiska's after trying the creme de la creme of cat food.

My dog is the same, she won't eat her own food until she knows she isn't getting what we leave on the plate, she's always fussy if we change her food too.

They can't be snobs if they like Whiskas

Was just going to post similar, i feel sorry for cats that get fed whiskas isnt it something like 8% meat.
Ours gets Applaws which is 80% with no added rubbish unlike whiskas.

It's understandable though. It's like being fed a gourmet burger every day, then being fed a Rustlers. You're gonna turn your nose up aren't you.

Its really not, Whiskas should be ashamed of themselves passing it off as food.

If you think this is gourmet i worry.

"Cereals Meat and Animal Derivatives (including 4% Chicken in the Light Brown Kibbles) Vegetable Protein Extracts Oils and Fats (including 0.25% Fish Oil, 0.1% Sunflower Oil) Derivatives of Vegetable Origin Minerals (including 0.2% Sodium Tripolyphosphate) Vegetables (4% Carrots in the Orange Kibbles, 4% Peas in the Green Kibbles) Antioxidants Colourants from Natural Origin"

For comparison this is the applaws.

"Dry Chicken Meal (65%), Chicken Mince (17%), Potato, Brewer‰Ûªs yeast, Beet Pulp, Chicken Gravy, Salmon Oil, Vitamins and Minerals, Dried Egg, Cellulose Plant Fibre (0.03%), Sodium Chloride, Calcium Carbonate, Seaweed/Kelp, Cranberry, DL-Methionine, Potassium Chloride, Yucca Extract, Citrus Extract, Rosemary Extract."

mine only eats tuna whiskas dry food and a pouch of tuna wet food, but recently hes only eating the jelly on the wet food.

Trying to find other more soupy food, he likes the purina soups but they aren't meals, just complementary foods...

My parents looked after him for a year and a half and he turned into a tuna junky. Wont touch ANYTHING that isn't tuna now, I only ever gave him some tuna as a treat / bi weekly, and it turned into nearly everyday with them.

Also with him being a big sod (6/7kg minimum) he eats a heck of a lot :( haha

But then again, leave his food there for a day or two longer and he'll finish it. Gotta fight stubborn with stubborn.

I just think all cats are like this. Mine have got to only liking Felix "as good as it looks" from the packets. They used to eat basically anything but now turn up their noses to some of the foods that they used to eat. I have tried many others recently and they are not interested. They are equally as funny with biscuits but much more fussy on their wet food.

In terms of biscuits its Wiskers complete or GoCat Crunchy and tender, or if the other two can, they try and rob the special veterinary biscuits that one of them has for health reasons.

I wont go down the road of making their diet even more expensive as it's already quite expensive, worse if like me you cant help buying them the meat sticks and all the other treats that they like.

That's over 15 pounds! Fat little git.

My cat is an absolute pain when it comes to food, she'll refuse to eat the same food all week so I end up having to buy 3-4 different brands and do some sort of rotating menu of meals... to top it off, on a Sunday she'll often ignore her food in the hopes to get some meat from the roast dinner.

I swear she has a more varied diet than me on some weeks...

They'll soon starve.

Not a chance. Those disloyal little buggers will happily move in with one of your neighbours who will feed them what they want.

My cats were getting a bit picky with what they were eating, decided to buy some more expensive stuff to see if they'd eat, well Big Dave (our big black tom) looked like a vampire who had suddenly smelt blood, his eyes just changed and he couldn't wait to get stuck in! Now the only way to get them to eat Whiskers again is to sprinkle a few Dreamies in the bowl with it.
