My first attempt at building a pc... does it look ok ?

So yesterday i put together my first ever pc, id never built one form scracth before. Everything seems to work ok but i do have a few concerns.

I have a coolmaster elite 335 case and a titan fenrir cooler. as you can from the pics below the titan fenrir cooler literally takes up the entire width of the case, so much so that the little 8 bronze points on the end of it just about touch the side of the case when i attach it. I also had to remove the little air port thingy on the side of the case (where you have option to attach another fan i think) as there was simply no way it would fit with the fenrir cooler. Judging from these pics does it look ok ? i had no idea the fenrir was so big... will it be an issue having it take up the whole width of the case and does it matter if the 8 little bronze points on the fenrir touch the side of the metal case ?

Also as you can see the power supplies fan blows directly onto the top of the fenrir, is this ok ? also the fenrirs fan is also blowing directly onto the ati 4890 card, is this an issue ? there is no other way i could install it but everything seems kinda bunched together... but im new to this and for all i know it may be fine.

Finally i realise the cables are a bit of a mess but there is literally no where to put some of them, i have a cable running across the top of the fenrir to the psu and there is simply no where else to put it due to the length of the cable, same goes for a few other cables... they only just stretch to where they are meant to go on the mobo and thus rest on the certain things like the gfx card... is this a problem or is it fine ? i know cable management is important to air flow but i honestly can't for the life of me work out how im going to tidy the cables up when some of the cables are so short.

Is the case maybe too small for the stuff iv got ?

AMD Phenom II X4 (overclocked at 3.8ghz)
4gb ram
titan fenrir cooler
radeon 4890
Coolermaster Elite 335 Case

Any help and suggestions would really be welcome, bare in mind this is the first time iv ever put together a pc !

oh and sorry for the not so great picture quality

I think that fan facing the 4890 is going to suck hot air from the card ....it needs to be turned round so the fan is facing the front of the case and the back is facing the exaust fan at the back...otherwise your going to have heat problems....i would get a bigger case if you have the money tbh...or a smaller cooler

First off, psu fan is sucking into psu not blowing into the case.

Which way have you got the fan on the fenrir? It should be pushing into the heatsink, in which case it'll be blowing warm air into the psu which will exhaust it for you. Graphics card blows air out the back, so should be fine. I highly recommend fitting an intake fan to the front.

I fear your temperatures are going to be nasty, what are the load temps for graphics card and cpu? The case is too small/badly laid out really, but the only likely consequence will be heat and noise.

You can buy extension cables for the 4/8 pin and 24 pin cables from the psu which may help. Otherwise cable tidying is just persistence + cable ties until they're all hidden

Hope some of that helps

^cant rotate the cooler 90 degrees I suspect, amd dont use a symmetrical mounting hole layout. So it either blows up or down, and up is the lesser of two evils

There's no problem with the CPU HSF touching the side of the case. However as other people here have said it's usually better to have it pushing air towards the back of the case not the top.

thats a good looking build, you need to switch the cpu cooler round so the fan blows air towards the back of the case were you should mount another exhaust fan, the cables could do with a idy and from looking at the pic your ram isnt running in dual channel and should be( work more efficently)

ok so i should switch the fenrir round 90 degree so that is fan its facing the front of the case, correct ? actually i just looked at it and i don't think i can make it rotate 90 degrees, its either going to face upwards and downwards due to how it mounts with the clip. so i guess upwards is better ? will that cause any issues with the psu fan and fenrir fans being so close to each other ?

also the ram was installed by overclockers, so i figure they knew what they were doing ? the mobo has got 2 white slots and 2 blue slots, the ram is currently in the 2 white slots, how should it be setup to run in dual channel (explain simply as im a complete noob lol). also with the fenrir installed there isn't actually any room to put in the ram, it overlaps over the 2 empty slots so i guess im kinda stuck with the ram setup how it is.

also i can't mount another fan at the back of the case (there is already one there) as there is no room, maybe one in front is a good idea like someone mentioned (more cables though, arghhh)

TBH im thinking maybe i should just get a different case, with more space... i don't really want to spend much more than what this one cost though (id say £50 max). Anyone got any suggestions ?

You could cable tie a fan to the PCI brackets on the back.
I can't find a picure now, but the £25 case i built my sisters new PC in the other week has more cabloe management options that that case, and more than my Antec nine hundred. I put some holes into the back of my nine hundreds backplate, nd routed the cables through there.

Keep the case, it's good enough. Despite all the recommendations to turn the heat sink 90 degrees above, I will state again that you can't often do this with amd boards.

The ram is running in dual channel mode, you're fine.

You only need one fan on the back, Kingston presumably hadn't noticed the fan already mounted there. Another one on the front is highly recommended.

Which way is the fan on the fenrir blowing? It's fairly important to have it pushing into the heatsink not trying to pull air through it. Assuming it is pushing, you have put it in the best available position.

I disagree with CliveUK, another exhuast fan is unlikely to help and I would expect it to hinder cooling. Definitely put it on the front.

.

erm i've no idea tbh

maybe you can tell from this incrediblty poor quality picture iv just taken

cool good to know

so to sum up

1. i should flip the fenrir round 180 degrees so the fan is at the top (this won't cause any issues with it being so close to the psu... correct ?)

2. cable management

3. maybe install another fan at the front of the case

I agree with Tarqy on this, your fan is fine.

1/ Nope. This would result in it fighting with the psu for air, which would end badly

2/ Yep, the more obsessive the better

3/ Definitely put another fan there

:)

another example of decent hardware and shoddy case.
Looks way too small.

Imo, tidy it for now and buy a Haf, Fortress or Antec 1200.

hmm, who are are the haf and fortress made by ?

antec 1200 is way out of my price range, no way i can be spending £140 on a case.

so what is the general consensus, should i get a new case or will this one do ? a few people have said this one is ok and a few have said it's not good enough.

£50-60 is my limit, what other case could i get in that price range which would be noticeable better than my current one ?
