My first attempt at building a pc... does it look ok ?

Temps will stabalise fairly quickly, Id expect 4 or 5 minutes to be enough. It wont heat up your graphics card, that's what furmark is for.

Ideally test with side on and off. If airflow in your case is good, it'll be cooler with the side on. If airflow is bad (probable), it'll be cooler with the side off. The difference in load temps with and without panel therefore tells us things about your cooling arrangement.

I'm not sure what the thermal limit for your processor is, but it's quite possible it's 60 degrees. Intel ones tend to be rated to 70, but my only amd one is rated up to 60 degrees. Intel burn test might not run on amd processors either, in which case prime 95/orthos is the answer (same program, different interface. orthos is a bit nicer).

oh god sorry one more stupid question

do i basically run both this intel burn test and furmark at the same time ? what do you mean by "prime with furmark" ? and i just let them run until it gets to around 70 ?

Run them at the same time so you are stressing both CPU and Video.
Let them run for 10-15 minutes and see what your temps are.
Obviously stop if you start hitting crazy temps like 80+.

ok i just ran prime 95 on it's own. i just chose the default setting which said something like "test a bit of everything".

as soon as i started it my fans kicked in and the temperature suddenly started increasing. in the space of about a minute or two it went from 47 all the way upto 70 and stayed around there for about another minute. I then turned it off and the temperature started going down and took about 2-3 minutes to reach 47 again.

does that mean anything to anyone ? that was with the case on btw

oh ok, cool

10-15 minutes ? eek, it only took about 2-3 minutes to get to 70 lol

not having any joy with furmark, i double click it and it opens, leave everything at default (benchmark setting selected), click go and then it just disappears and nothing happens.

Just ran Prime 95 again for 15 minutes (this time with side panels off) and the temperature stayed at a pretty constant 65

the temperature of the cpu cores with the case off is 5 degrees lower than with the case on (not surprising really). Is this an ok temperature ? what kind temp should i be looking for from the cpu when ideal and also when playing intensive games such as crysis.

sorry for so many questions, you have all been very helpful ! id like to test the gpu at same time but still can't get furmark to work

cool, what kind of temps do you get for your graphics card when it's idle and being used in demanding games such as crysis ?

idle mine is a constant 57, im yet to check what it goes upto when playing a game.

Furmark:
Idle 60-61 / Load 71-72

ATI cards are hot little buggers.

Just ran the test but it requires you to be online to get the results, and iv got no external wireless card i can plug in... so not much use i guess.

on one test i was getting like 1-3 fps, it was some desert level (the one before the test with the dragon)... what is that about ? 1-3 FPS !!!! the rest all seemed to be ok

one thing i noticed when playing rfactor was that my fps would fluctuate massively, it was running at like 400fps and then randomly it would dip to say 260 even though there was nothing extra happening on the screen. the sudden dip was always noticeable as well (for like a split second) even though it was still running at a very high fps
