My first hour with my VTX 7970

yes, the company begins with B and ends in M with the word `International` after it, they're actually very good, but very slow at RMAing all their stuff :(

you'll be ok with a pc case off them, or a cooler/Mobo, but not something as delicate as a high end graphics card, because over the last 10 years the only thing to ever go bust is a graphics card, about 5 times, after this is the PSU, but even this lasted 3 years.

i cant understand why the mobo is so damned strong, yet the card so weak, most odd.

yup that's the one.
I also had similar trouble with a third party seller off the mainstream online titan.

They just flat out lied to my face for a few weeks. I don't mind waiting as im reasonable, but lying to me...thats just bad business tbh.

I wish companies would just ease up on the 'spin' with online buying.
Just state average turnaround times, then if that gets exceeded hold by your word and provide an incentive.

My business, if I screw up delivering on time I apologise and offer a discount on next bit of business with client. Doesn't work with every deal but is a fallback position which is beneficial to the client/customer.

Also, my experience has taught me to go to the 'niche' sellers like OCUK who handle very specific product ranges. Far more focused service with better understanding of customers issues .

yes, they picked up my faulty card then everything went quiet for a few weeks, i rang them up and they said it was about to be RMAd, this dragged on to the 8th week and by then i had a reputation for complaining, plus they never answered my emails.

they only acted when i said i was about to attack them online, by giving their website bad reviews, this suddenly scared them into action, they left me with no other choice because i was starting to get quite worried, after this they answered all my emails, they treated me like God Almighty!

i got the card back two weeks later and i promised not to give them a poor review... the trouble is i'm stuck with them, this is why i cant really afford to go over 1.20v any more, just in case i have to wait another 10 weeks !

Am I the only one with very slow RMA times from OcUK? I've returned around 5 graphics card over the last 2 months.

1 x GTX 670 - fan was knackered
2 x 7970 VTX - both had ridiculous coil whine in 3D mode, even under 60fps.
1 x 7970 Windforce 3X - coil whine, even whist watching TV on my TV card.
1 x 7950 IceQ - fan stuck at 100%

A lot I admit, but I'm not spendiing ~£300 for a sub par product.

Every time it's taken about 4+ days for them to actually email me that they've received the parcel. e.g. I sent the 7970 WF and 7950 IceQ last Tuesday, arrived Wednesday (signed for). They finally emailed me on Monday to say they're received it. So now it'll be another 5-7 days while they test. Then another god knows how long to process a refund.

Can't say I've been impressed in the slightest.

Shocking service, id never use them again if i had to resort to measures like that.

In saying that though, maybe Mal drove them to it. :D

I kid i kid. :p

so you have to wait 10 days, that is nothing, try 10 weeks, you cant complain about OC uk, no way, they're excellent !

finally, 5 cards over 2 months looks highly suspicious, how loud is the Coil Whine, because OCUK are entitled to say that the CW is well within acceptable levels and if you carry on like this, they eventually will

my faulty card was tested here.... but it was also tested again in Europe! this is why it was sent away and i had to wait another 2 weeks, they were highly suspicious of me and didn't want to replace it...... OC UK are softies in comparison, you're extremely lucky !

I most certainly can complain lol. 4 days to notice a parcel has arrived is a long time. Compared to other well known retailer it's certainly not "excellent". Admittedly no where near 10 weeks though :P

Is there an acceptable level? My current 7950 doesn't make a peep of noise! They were loud, clearly audible with headphones on watching TV.

you dont know if you have a good clocker :eek: because ours are set quite low ( unless you've gone higher on the sly ) you'll only know if your card is any good if it lets you get close to 1.25v...

but, it aint worth knowing m8, lest you wait 10 weeks ! :D

They must hate you, i know would. :p

Big note on the office pin-board, compulsive RMA'er make his life a misery :D

:(

I'd love nothing more than one of the first 7970's to have no coil whine. Save me all this messing about, they were also cheaper back then!

just Googled 7970 coil whine, it seems Sapphire suffer most from it, a lot of Sapphire reports, no / few MSI coil whine reports and people say they think MSI are the least likely to have it.

Send them the £20 / £30 or whatever it is difference and get yourself an MSI, or if you ask them they might take it out of the box and test it for coil whine before sending it to you.

my latest card is dead quiet now, but it still has coil whine on R6 Vegas 2, plus additional noise coming through the speakers, so in my case the faults are due to the games only, simply because Deux Ex is perfectly quiet.

coil whine is all over the web, but this varies from very bad to hardly anything, people just like to complain that's all, no i wouldn't get the standard MSI, the Sapphire has a far better cooler, people moan about coil whine with regards to the Lightning 7970 as well... it seems to bug quite a few different cards, not just Sapphire

That's because I linked them to the thread where you basically overvolted and destroyed your own card due to your own narrow-mindededness. :D

It would have been funnier had they refused the return since at the end of the day it was only one persons fault. You should be grateful they accepted it and stop whinging :D.
