My GeIL 2GB PC2-6400 CAS4 Dual Channel Kit (MY-058-GL) Overclocking Experience.......

hmm my order is being held up as the gskilll hz is out of stock and the his xt is too

but i can get the geil and an xtx instead might be worth changing the order

Gibbo how do these sets run on conroe's with 4x512, i have 2x512 now is it ok too add another 2x512 and will be fine with overclocking etc.

Filling all four banks will always reduce overclocking abilities. Only way to find out is to try it. But my advice would be to sell your 2x512MB pieces and get a 2x1GB kit as that configuration will overclock better. :)

I got this on friday when i got the 6300 and Gigabyte GA_965P_S3, but i had 2x1 gig of the G.Skill LA 5300 just it don't seem to like me new stuff, so had to get this ram of me bro. Think ill leave it then and hold on thanx anyway.

Don't suppose there is anyway i can bring this ram i got on friday back and even if i lose some money on them and pay what ever extra for the 2x1 gig sticks ?

Actually tbh i aint even got the ram overclocked at all atm its sitting at 740 mhz and i doubt ill push the conroe much more so i think another 2x will do the job nicely for me.

Hi there

It was with the 1333MHz strap and memory set to 667MHz, which results in a 4:5 FSB/RAM ratio. :)

ah, nice one...
that would explain the high frequency at low timings then, the bad axe lowers chipset latencies with the 1333 strap.
can you see how high you can take them on the 1066 strap please?

So are you saying if I use the 1066MHz strap and just clock the FSB up more then the overall system performance will be superior?

There again saying that using the 1066MHz strap I will only be able to reach 1600MHz FSB, not so good.

As using the 1333MHz strap I can hit 1850MHz+ FSB, surely that is the much quicker option?

yes, from everything i've seen and read the 1066 strap is faster
i've got an ES E6700, but i haven't had time to fully test my own bad axe board properly yet, i'm working on a gigabyte ds3 at the moment

Suggest you read that RE straps. Basically, if you run the 1333 strap it loosens some of the internal timings, so memory clocks higher but it won't actually be as fast, thanks to high internal latencies. So you have to run with the 1066 strap, and run a higher divider.

If you can do that and still reach those same speeds, i'll be ordering a kit off these in a flash.

Having lots of trouble getting these stable any one else got them?

Also having trouble getting them stable even at DDR880 CAs 4,4,4,12. Really hard just to get to boot at DDR1000 CAS 5,5,5,12

Mine wouldn't work at any settings after 4 days messing I took them back today they were borked

So I put my new set in about 2 hours ago and guess what!!!!

It's looking very much like this set is no good as well, it won't even boot on auto settings and if I try 4-4-4-12 I get literally 1,000's of errors.

I'm suffering a big headache and very fed up I have now driven 197 miles and spent 4 days on something that looks useless.

I will carry on and see what happens but I must say unless I'm forgetting something it's looking highly possible this set is also borked.
