Reshelling a Mk4 Escort all those years ago has left you soft in the head, or maybe it was one of those potholes we hit up the quarry in the Uber Golf.

Good luck dude :D

It only took me about 9 months to reshell that thing, what a nightmare of a job.

It was the potholes ;)

I hope the engine comes as delivered and it all gets sorted, its the final push so chin up and just look at how far you've already come. Your starting line is merely a dot in the distance now, the finish line is in front of you.

Me too, I can see the finish now, just a matter of not stopping till I get there!

Few bits done tonight but no pics sorry!

Rear brake carriers, stub axles and calipers painted. Also cut a hole under the air filter to provide a cold air feed, will post some pics tomorrow.

Car is ready for the engine now, will change the cambelt, fit the turbo first and then put it in.

Fingers crossed all will be ok and it starts without any problems by tomorrow afternoon.

This arrived about 15 minutes ago, few hours to strip it down and swap some bits from the other engine and change the cambelt then I can put it in.

Will keep you posted :D

Thanks guys :)

Flying along today

Some bits removed from the engine! No prisoners today, the grinder is out!

Estimated start time 6pm!

:D

Engine is now ready to be taken into the garage, some "heavies" on the way to help me lift it as I cant move the golf and get it in on the crane!

It's pouring it down here, I'm soaked.

Vids will be a luxury as tonyyeb mentioned!

I'm taking my time with everything today, everything is being doubled checked, I havent got any time left to do things twice!

Let's say 7pm to be safe!!

Need to chase some parts up now that were supposed to arrive this morning.....

Havent run into any problems yet, just taking our time!!

Will hopefully be started in the next 30 minutes!

What a day! :D

Firstly a big thanks to Tony, Elfyn, Bob, Gareth, Keys, Tony and Lisa for the help today, without them I would have never got it done.

We took our time today, this was treated as a final installation and everything had to be right, if anything went wrong after today then I would have had to call it a day.

Everything is now in place, still waiting for an air filter though.

She started first time, still a little smoke coming from the exhaust but thats to be expected with all the oil residue in there! No smoke is produced when revved so I'm 99% sure that everything is fine. Needs a good run tomorrow to warm everything up.

Most of the interior was fitted by Bob tonight and I think everyone had a go in cleaning the wheels :D

Mmmm looks like they missed some bits!

Lots of little jobs to do tomorrow, MOT booked for Friday morning.

Very happy and pleased tonight :D

Awesome work.

At one of the rolling roads I finished fitting my new engine the night before, getting up early and getting the car tracked and then running the engine in on the way down to Powerstation, mapping it in the morning up and down the M5 and then running it with about 150miles on the clock

The fun and games of cars + deadlines

Cars, motorsport and deadlines, always the same isnt it :D

Thanks for the support everyone, been a busy morning.

Picked up the beam from the powder coaters

Brake line arrived so I can finish the brakes

DSCF0810.jpg

Fittings for the rear shocks arrived

DSCF0811.jpg

Got some clips for the arches and side moulding from VW and some new number plates made up.

Engine has been running for a couple of hours, much less smoke now. Needs a good run to clear all the residue out. Found a leaking O-ring on the temp sensor housing, got one from VW, I will fit it aftwerwards.

No word from the seller of the engine yet.

I *think* I have everything here to finish it for an MOT now, I have until 8:20am tomorrow morning to get it done! :D

Looks like its going to be a long night

To do list

Fit back suspension
Bleed brakes
Fit door cards
Test all lighting
Put wheels back on
Fit number plates
Fit bonnet

Sleep!

Will update tomorrow morning after the MOT

Right she failed

Few little things:

Handbrake needs adjusting
One brake union seeping
Exhuast clamp loose

Going to grab a little kip, then take it back for a retest and emissions check  this afternoon.

On the road she was misfiring a little I think one of the coil packs needs replacing, I have plenty of spares here.

Could have been a lot worse :D

Right list done, slight problem retest is at 4:30pm. I'm not sure if i'll get to the post office in time to get tax.

****** *******

I tried asking for an earlier time but he was fully booked. I've tried to book it into another garage for this afternoon but they have no room.

*********** ********* ********* ******** ********

Might not be able to get to the RR :(

Will turn up early and see if he can get it done sooner.

Any post offices near Powerstation?!

WooHoo!

/edit :- Can we have some pics of the finished product?

KaHn

It's not finished yet! Loads left to do:

Fit arches
Finish interior

Actually that isnt loads :D

I think it's pinking slightly under load, need to investigate why tonight.

Anyone coming to the RR tomorrow have an AFR meter handy so I can check the fueling?

Cant wait for the 'ring trip on Monday :D

Mini update:

Interior sort of done, arches and side skirts fixed on for now.

Evryone that's there tomorrow dont expect a show car, it's not finished yet :D

Thanks for all the comments guys, I wouldnt have got this far without all of you.

Just taken it for a quick spin, pinking seems sorted.

OMG its nippy :D

Need some sleep now, really early start tomorrow for the 3.5 hour journey!

Will have a look at the vids tomorrow andy :)

What a day :D

Started at 6am this morning to the RR meet, arrived about 9:30. Car arrived fine no problems at all to report!

Then came the run, was very worried when it went on, trying to think if I missed anything etc etc

First run in high boost and at about 500rpm it started to det really badly. The run was aborted. Switched to low boost and got 180bhp.

Guys at Powerstation were stars, they said they would check the fueling by running it again in high boost. Again at 5000 rpm it started to det badly but the fueling was fine. I was looking at the screen and saw 255bhp flash up, I was really puzzled didnt expect that at all. Asked the guys at powersation if the reading was right! They asked my how much high boost was, I answered I had no idea! They did another run, this time logging the boost also. Still det at 5000 rpm and a power reading of 257bhp before they aborted the run :D

Curtis said that after a bit if mapping it will be really sweet! :D

On the way home I had a quick lap of the Evo triangle, suspension seems really good, it feels really planted on the road. Inspires lots of confidence.

Need to get the geometry set up and a few little niggles but very pleased on how it ran.

Some pics of the nearly finished article!

That is a lot of power. What do you think 0-60 would be?

It was strugling to get all the power down in greasy conditions, really need that diff I ordered 6 weeks ago from the USA for traction!

I have no idea on 0-60, once the above arrives I'll do some tests!

Seems a cool project we were all having a giggle when they were entering high det on the results, well impressed with the power though. Will be brill when finished. :)

It was a bit worrying hearing it det  , hopefully a bit more safe power to come once mapped.

Everyone did keep reminding me I had a spare engine if that one blew up :p
