My hair transplant journey

What do you think they can do for me?

Do you have a pic of your donor area?

My first impressions are:

- You have a NW6 pattern, which would need at least ~4,500 grafts for a decent result
- Your hair on the sides looks quite thick, which is a massive advantage for a hair transplant procedure
- You are not slick bald in most of the thinning area, so would stand a very good chance of big improvements from finasteride or dutasteride

People can be funny about taking finasteride and ultimately you'll make your own judgement, but it will hugely improve your outcome if you're willing to use it.

As someone who has looked into this process I do. Sure most people come off well but only takes some bad luck to be that one person.. it’s when stuff goes wrong that you don’t want to be in Turkey.
As someone who has done extensive research and finanlly had it done I can tell you there's more chance of pigs flying ;)

I have a question and I guess here is the best place for it..
I have a fairly decent hair coverage across my head accept for the temples which have been slowly progressing backwards... I am in my 40s so nothing unusual, however recently I have felt like the my hair feels thinner when I run my hand through it..

Would taking finasteride before things get worse be as beneficial if not more beneficial than taking it once my hair begins to thin out..

I guess I'm asking, is prevention better than restoration.

I also looked at Minoxidil to thicken up my hair but I don't think it's thin enough on top yet to warrant it, and I know my bald temples are too far gone to restore hair.

I’ve been on minoxidil for about 18 months. It’s helped my hair thicken back out and helped restore the temples partly where the follicles hadn’t fully died.

According to my doctor finasteride is stronger but better suited to older men where they no longer care about fertility. It’s also dangerous for pregnant women apparently.

Back and sides are still pretty thick full coverage.

You could probably get an extremely good outcome. Might need two procedures if they need to do 5k + grafts and start finasteride now if you haven't already.

Many clinics will recommend this before you have a procedure anyway and it can both reduce the number of grafts you need and improve the final outcome.

The problem is, with a minoxidil solution I'd end up losing some hair to begin with to gain some back, and thicken it. However I don't really want to go through a shedding phase if I can avoid it and I don't want to have thicker hair that is forever dependant on me using the solution to not fall out. Is that a fair assumption of the case?
I kinda assumed that if I used Finasteride tablet that it would be an easier way to just keep the hair I have as it is, maybe thicken it a little.

Are the side effects bad for everyone? I had read that it mostly only effects a few percent.

I'm a little different to most. I'm not desperate to restore excessively thinning hair but I am aware it's going in that direction and want to get a early start on stopping it become like that.

I got no noticeable side effects or shedding from taking minoxidil orally
