My journey out of obesity

Had a quick weigh in this morning.

Neck - 16" -0.25"
chest - 42" -0.5"
stomach - 35" -1"
thigh - 24.5" +0.5"
calf - 16" +0.25"
upper arm - 15.5" No change

Weight - 213.8lbs/15st3.8lbs -2.2lbs

I acutally think I may have shocked my legs into a bit of growth due to the much higher than normal rep ranges I'm using at the moment.

Either way diet and training is going right out the window for the next 3 days, I'm starting a 14.5 hour shift at 4:30 till 7 which means leaving here at 3 and getting back about 11 tmorrrow morning, then I'l have a few hours kip and out to work tomorrow night :o
I'm going to try and keep the carbs down as tonight I'l mostly be sat on arse but it means I'm going to miss a weight session :(

Went to visit the physio this morning for a pre op assessment but theres some strange things going on with my appointments and op dates but thats besides the point.
The op they want to get me in for is a Bankart repair which is to repair tears in the capsule and get the tendons and ligaments back to where they should be.
Apparently I won't be able to use the arm for anything overly useful for at least 12 weeks, which means I'm going to be putting it off for the time being I can't afford the time off work or uni and to be honest its not been bothering me enough to become an invalid for months on end.
The best part was they recommend microwave meals while you're recovering due to the ease of prep and cooking when you've only got one arm, this gave me a serious urge to facepalm. Microwave meals lacking in pretty much anything of any use to the body while you're probably going to be quite inactive and your bodies recovering from a pretty serious trauma.
I'd rather struggle though or eat less high quality food that live on that muck.

I had exactly the same operation on Thursday just gone (10th) - they're giving you worst case scenario.

I was told 6 weeks in the sling, and daily exercises etc - after a couple of days I was able to use my arm, although not for anything major, just for holding toast while I butter it etc.

Its not as bad as they make out :)

Well that definately sounds better than what they said, only problem being even at the best case I can't see me being fit for work for a fair while due to the nature of my job.

What do you do for work?

To be honest, the worst part of it for me is the stiffness - being in a sling all day isn't good! I don't sleep in it though as its just awkward.

If they're offering you the operation its because it needs fixing - I had 2 years of having to second guess my movements - get it done, you've got plenty of time to work out. :)

I'm a self employed door man which means no sick pay :(

Thats true its more I'm in my last few months of uni so I could do without the extra financial problems of not being able to work, plus I've lived with it for the last nearly 6 yrs without it being a major issue most of the time.

I've asked them to put the op date back until I finish uni at least so I'l just have to wait and see.

Thats fair enough then, if its going to cause you financial hardship then it makes sense to push it back. I'll try to keep you updated with my own progress to give you an idea of the timescales involved. I'm 4 days in (Op was last thursday) and feeling good today - lots more flexibility - its only my own muscles hindering movement, as they've been tightened up, so to speak.

Out the sling though, at least for some of the day :)

That would be great cheers, at least it will give me a more realistic outlook on it than the Dr's doom and gloom :)

Well I'm now about 6 weeks into my cut and had my first bad session this morning, even with a serving of warrior rage pre workout which normally stokes me up for my big leg workout I just wasn't feeling it at all my knees were aching and just didn't seem to have any endurance.
Oh well I got in some squats, calf raises, shoulder press and lat raises somethings better than nothing.
Plus I was late to the gym due to waiting for a delivery and then had a lecture to go to, I'm might try and get out on the bike later just to get some cardio in we shall see.

Tbh I'd take either every 6th, or 8th week off as a break.. let your body just relax. For me it seems to work and I am able to go back to the gym with more enthusiasm and strength. Just an idea for you if this happens again.

Other than that you have done some amazing work keep it up!

Just an update for you Tom - 11 days since the OP, and no sling for me :D I've got a lot of flexibility back, I can almost raise my arm above my head - as I said before, a lot of the limitation is my own muscles - they've been used the "wrong" way for 2 years, so their lack of movement in the right direction is what's holding me back. The Pendulum Exercises I was given are now "complete", so to speak, I have lots of movement and flexibility.

I sat in my car to get a feel of how far I've got to go before I can safely drive again - a week or so more I think - while I can change gear nicely, getting the car into 5th or reverse (top right and bottom right respectively) is very hard work - next step is resistance exercises I think.

Overall, I'm very pleased with my progress - I think the good build of muscles around my shoulder helps - its just a case of retraining the muscles to work in the correct manner :)

Cheers for the update westy sounds like its all going well for you.
Good to hear you seem to be healing so quickly definitely a massive difference to what the Dr's tell you, I seem to heal relatively well so hopefully I'll be looking at a quick recovery when I have the op.
Quick update from me I've decided to have this week off the weights at least might throw in some cardio if I get time, had my first beers in 7 weeks last night for a mates birthday and I'm feeling it today after only having about 5 jd+diet coke.
You really don't notice how bad alcohol makes you feel until you've spent a good while off it.

Done some cardio this evening and I've got to say I'm already enjoying the few days away from the weight and giving my body a rest. Should mean next week will be nice and intense :D
Just about to put my order in for some more chicken, the original 20kg I ordered at the start of Jan should last till the end of the month so that's £12.50 a week and considering I'm eating at least 2 breasts a day is a bargain compared to supermarket prices even before you start taking into account that there's more water and filler in them.

Another weigh in this morning, its not gone too badly considering I've had this week off from serious training and had a bit of a blow out at the weekend.

Neck - 15.75" -0.25"
chest - 42" No change
stomach - 35" No change
thigh - 24.5" No change
calf - 15.75" -0.25"
upper arm - 15.5" No change

Weight - 213.2lbs -.6lbs Theres a possibility I just had a really big pee this morning :D

Couple of update pics, including my legs for once which are a right bugger to get a semi decent shot of.
My left arm always seems to be at a slope as well rather than up level with my right which I figure is down to my messed up shoulder.

Another post from me today :D but I can't sleep so you get the joys of my rabbling.
I've just been thinking I've got 8 weeks till I'm off to sunny Turkey for a week so at a conservative estimate I reckon I could happily shed another 16lbs before then which will put me at 197lbs ish or just above 14st which will be the lightest I've been, still nice and obese by the BMI chart though ;)

At the moment I'm taking in about 2000kcals a day little higher on work out days, with a split of roughly
Pro/Carb/Fat
50/30/20 Training
50/20/30 Rest

Now depending how lean I end up at 14st I might decide to switch straight to a lean bulk after a week off while I'm sunning myself or I might keep cutting a little longer.
Anyway when I come to bulk does that breakdown look like it'l work just as well as long as I bump up the kcals?
Also at the moment I'm using rep ranges of 10-15 split over 3-4 sets so I was thinking just bring those reps down to maybe 5-8 for my compounds at least, and make sure the weights are nice and heavy.
I also plan on keeping some cardio in as its quite obvious my body does enjoy holding some fat.

Does that sound about right

Nice to see you updating this thread :)

Where did you get that chicken from?

I like to think I'm giving people some mindless drivel to pass the time while they should be doing work :D

I got the first lot from www.westingormet.co.uk but this time round I ordered from http://www.tarelgin.com/cgi-bin/web...t=Chicken&product_id=5 kg box chicken breasts as I didn't have quite as much spare cash around and they do free delivery on your first order over £35.
The new stuff turned up today and is all good yet again a massive improvement on the supermarket stuff I'd end up spending over £20 a week on.

Back to the weights tomorrow, quite looking forward to it :D might even throw some 1RM attempts in at some point in the week and see if I can move up the power lifting table a spot or two.
