My local Morrison's changes

Been in one where the fresh herbs are about with the mist etc etc superb. Not at my local one yet but the butcher counter there is way above other supermarkets. Not quite up there with local butcher but good enough.

Big thumbs up morrisons

I do prefer the meat in morrisons compared to other supermarkets, but my nearest on is about a 10 mile+ drive, after hearing this i may have to make an excuse to drive past soon

I was on a course and I met a woman from a sea food company and she said a morrisons always have the best fresh fish and the quality of the ready meals this company make for Morrisons is to a higher standard than for other supermarkets. Its similar for their meet.

I prefer Morrisons to the other supermarkets except Waitrose, but the nearest Waitrose is around 15 miles away and I cba to make the trip regulary. Roll on Morrisons updating my local store.

I really like Morrison's. I especially like their fish counters. But I find that there have such different things to Tesco, my usual supermarket, that I end up spending a FORTUNE on allsorts of things, thinking, "ooh, I'll get one of those... haven't seen those for ages... they look really tasty..."

My nearest Morrison's is about 7 miles away at the moment so don't go very often, but they're building a new one in the town close to us, so it will soon become my closest supermarket.

Local Morrisons was done maybe 10months a go...honestly can't remember but it's been a while now!

Local tesco express/esso has also been refurbed with the new slate grey coloured signs and costa machine.

Morrisons are branding the stores stores of the future. Trying to attract more customers and beat the likes of tesco asda sainsburys etc. They are doing quite well with it as well at the mo.

Just got back from my Tesco and its got more "foreign" vegetables than ive ever seen there. Almost 2 isles of the stuff.

Also have 2 entire isles of world foods now, Polish, Indian, Jewish and Caribbean to name a few !

I love the Asian sections, the herbs/spices are so cheap in those sections when compared with the normal small jars you get elsewhere in the shop.

I've never understood the love of Waitrose, the only good thing going for it is is booze.

they are building a new one about 100m from me, cant wait, especially if its going to be like this.
wont be ready till October though

My store in Derby is getting the upgrade in August. The Gamston store other side of Nottingham has been done and nicked pretty much all of our staff to cope with the HUGE increase in customers and sales. Only down side to ours getting the full revamp is I am not getting a new Fish counter. There has been issues with the new style/design in the other Stores of the Future and they are trailing out a new one in other new/revamped stores and once it gets the go a head I will have it installed.

The new look SOTF are actually amazing. The layout, ambient atmosphere, the look and variety of goods for sale is top notch. Its amazing the fact my store is going on for 20 years old and is looking like it too in places and over the course of the revamp will look like its a new store pretty much. The total revamp in August will start 4pm Sunday once we close and we will re open on the Tuesday at 9am. That small amount of time to re do the whole store is mind boggling, 2 days pretty much.

Anyone know if the Nelson branch is getting it done? I work near it and it's always nice to pop in every now and then and get a salad for lunch, would be lovely to see the expanded World food sections if it gets Store of the Future specification.

Not all stores will get the full refurb. There are two sorts. One will completely change the store and the other will only give it a face lift with a few alterations here and there. From next year each store will be catering for the locality it is in. If a store is in a affluent area they will stock different things compared to the stores in not so well off areas and same with religions and race etc (I cant think of the appropriate word for this sorry..) They will stock enough for everyone but concentrate on the majority of the community if you get what I mean.

@ tehbluebear Ask at your local store if they are due an upgrade or refurb. I am sure they will let you know if you ask nicely.

Morrisons near me feels like they have tried to pack as much shelves into the space as possible. I want to look at one shelf then turn around and get lost looking for the next.

Seems to me like the one near to where I worked, they built a brand new one next door & when that opened (which is like the OP's description & is twice as big) they demolished the old one made the car park bigger. Just as well as the Olympic mountain biking is coming there in August. :p

Must say the cold-steam thing for the veg section is awesome. Excellent choice of more exotic stuff as well, it's made my curries much more interesting. :)

When the new Morrisons opens near us the other half is going to try and get a part time job there. I do prefer it over most of the other supermarkets.

I'm not sure I like the implication in the Daily Mail article that up North we are uncultured swines who couldn't possibly want to eat something as sophisticated as samphire.

My local Asda sells samphire from its Extra Special selection. I have also had purple potatoes - my local Sainsburys sells them.

And wow... 5 kinds of chilli!
