My local Morrison's changes

My one also has opened a fresh pizza counter. A very large freshly made pizza with 4 toppings for £3.50. Easily feeds 2.

I had pepperoni, red onion, green pepper and sweetcorn. It was outstanding. I very much doubt I will be buying take away pizza much more.

Just to let you know. My store in Derby has started the transformation into Store of the Future. The first things that happened (Sunday night) was the walls on my fish counter have been knocked down so its all open plan now. Customers can now see the whole department. All new tiling done for today as well. The old blue woodwork above the counters has all been ripped down and replaced with flush boarding ready for the new over head department signs.

A week next Wednesday we are getting new shelving and some time after a whole new fish counter.

I am off this week but will be popping in to keep an eye on what's being done to my own department.

The Butchery was started on too Sunday night. They have tiled the back up/prep room and on Thursday they are knocking down the walls so that will be open plan too. Not sure of the dates but they will be getting a whole new loose meat counter and inherit the sausage and bacon section from the Deli as that department will be having a massive overhaul too.

Its all very exciting. Cool story bro.

Are you getting the new fresh pizza counter?

They should also do a fresh curry counter, like Asda's do. Except with easier to open containers

Yeah we are. We are having the full £1m + update/grade. It's going to be great. No to the curry counter, although that would be probably my favourite department.

Having worked there for 6 years I try and avoid Morrisons at all costs. Liked the people there but everyone above department manager were absolute cocks.

Personally I much prefer to go out of my way and get veg at the farm shop or beg at some alotments.

When did you leave? Things have changed over the last few years. My store is ace. The Senior management team are great now, basically because we have a woman in charge and she is the best GM in the region. Puts people first. Most of the other stores I know people from are ok with everyone too. You do get the exception to the rule, but in general things are great at Morrisons. I would even say to people to apply for jobs once they start to recruit.

I don't see how belittling Morrisons due to you having 'Cocks' as the management team helps you. I have had some right ones in my store over the last 12 years. They come and go. I rise above the situation and carry on making the most out of my time. Trying to avoid at all costs is a little extreme I think.

You should try the Store of the Future if you have one near you. They are good. All management team members have to talk to everyone, or as many as they can during the working day. Staff and customers. Doing this certainly helps them be more less 'Cocky' so to speak.

A little update on the Derby conversion. My fish department is 99% done and so are a few other ones. Still have 4 weeks to go before the whole store goes live. Today we had a photographer in to do some shoots of us Street managers. I had quite a few taken of me on my fish counter. The reason we had some taken is as of tonight/early tomorrow, the Morrisons website will have a link to a Derby store child site telling people all about the Store of the Future and what changes are being made etc. It will have a forum to post on for customers who register, so they can air their views and give us all feedback.

So all being well you will see my ugly mug on the Morrisons website.

Fresh herbs are lined up with a gentle misting system keeping them fresh, all manners of different fruits, vegetables and chillies from around the world, with each one explaining what country it's from and how it's best used.

The Morrisons near here in Cambourne and the one over in Milton Keynes also has this misting system - problem is that all of the vegetables under it are usually not particularly fresh. I thought it was just to give the illusion of freshly-picked vegetables! I always found the one up in Sheffield (Hillsborough, or "Fort Morrisons" as we called it) had better quality fruit & veg than the ones around here, so maybe it's something to do with the regional suppliers if such a thing exists, or it could be that since I'm not a poor undergrad student any more I don't just buy the cheapest thing on offer :p

Sainsburys man through and through but this has been done for 4 months or so near me in Woking and they have a fantastic beer selection along with their deli meat, also the fancy mist thing :P

Morrisons actually refit their stores.

Tescos and sainsburys just move them round, I refit the store I used to work in, aside from nearly killing me due to horrifically long night hours and really intense manual labour, it basically was no different afterwards.

morrisons near me is there flagship so it gets it before the rest, so its had it for longer....

Popped into the Worthing store when we were down there, looked like substantial work going on.

Samphire is hard to get, so that's good. I bet my "local" one hasn't been updated yet.
Check ASDA if there's one near you, our local one has it quite often, near the broccoli.

This seems to be a trend within supermarkets in general, to be honest.
Seconded, to be honest a lot of department managers where I used to work were massive cocks who would talk down to you so much or demand stuff outside your contract then play the boss card.
No, I'm not working through my breaks you dick, hire more people if we're that busy.

The meat and fish counters in Morrisions at my local are far better than Tescos and Asdas tbh.
Also they look more aesthetically pleasing.

^This thick cut middle bacon with rind on from morrisons meat counter is way better than any other supermarket bacon.
