My Log Burner...

A few people have mentioned the Clearview stoves. Do you have any issues cleaning the ash tray? All the stoves I've seen so far don't have them and you just scoop some ash out every few weeks.

Will take a picture later for you but the tray slides straight out, so simple to then empty into a bag or bucket. I empty about every 7 to 10 days depending on use.

That looks ace. Does the flue leave the house at pretty much that height or does it go up further?

It comes out at the same angle ~7-8ft from the ground outside, which is slightly lower than the floor in the room. Handily that side of the house is fenced off so didn't need to worry about any issues.

We're getting prices from installers, 1 has come in at £1900 plus cost of stove and lining; £700ish for stove https://www.drufire.com/en-gb/product-range/dru/dru-gietijzer/dru44mf £500 for 904 liner (11metres). Seems a tad steep (in Hampshire).

Has anyone burned bracken logs? so-called 'brackettes'? supposedly burn hotter and longer than hardwood (oak presumably is the comparison rather than tropical hardwood. Just wondering if it leaves a soot-type deposit in the chimney.

Burning all the old pallets atm, left over from the summer projects in the evenings and add some smokeless coal when I am around more at the weekends.

Bought 2 of the fans from ALDI that sit power themselves, open the red wine 2 sips and fast asleep. Log burners are awesome :)

Well apart from the glass goes black all the time :(

Are the Aldi fans out at the moment? I was looking out for them as I want one, but thought I'd missed them.

Have you got a fire with the airflow system over inside of glass ?? Mine always stays clean -

The Clearviews mentioned above are in my opinion the best for clean glass - My 750 had about 9ft of air duct inside it and air was super heated when it got to fire box above doors.

You get what you pay for - My Hunter 4 was only one I could get that fitted the hole in chimney breast but I wish I had knocked it out now.

edit - Clearview 750 not 700

I have one of these https://www.drufire.com/en-gb/product-range/dik-geurts/ivar/ivar-5-low-ea as I preferred the simple and modern look. Burns well and kicks out a fair amount of heat. Glass stays clean too.

The Charnwood C4 is also a nice little stove http://www.charnwood.com/range/stove/cfour.aspx

Along with http://www.agastoves.co.uk/aga-stoves/contemporary-stoves/ellesmere/ellesmere-4

With any stove, you need to burn properly seasoned wood otherwise they don't operate efficiently and the glass and flue will soot up.

That depends on if your stove has airwash system - My old Little Wenlock didn't and glass was always black.

need to replace the (two layers) of glass on our clearview pioneer - looks like someone took out the inside pain and dropped it - the glass now only reaches half way up the front

Keep finding random bodged bits of this house, such a pain!

Would an owner be so kind as to take some photos of the way the inside pain is mounted, want to make sure I put it back in properly.

this is what it looks like now:

they've also somehow managed to melt the outside (!?!) of the outer pain of glass - guess it probably was once the inside but was swapped at some point.
