My MacBook Pro Upgrade Blog

OK, so it sounds (and from googling about as well) that this drive should be practically silent. I'm SuperDuper!ing back to my original drive and the Scorpio is going back. Logsi, it'll be interesting to see if the replacement is quieter but mine certainly appears to be a lot louder than I expected. If the replacement isn't as loud then I'd suggest you return yours as well.

Yeah, i would be very intrigued to see hear your findings.

Mine vibrates my desk and physical vibrates the MacBook case a little bit. My HDD is the one that apple ships with the 320GB 7200RPM upgrade so i think it may be the seagate?!

EDIT - Yeah, it's a seagate. ST9320421ASG Very quick drive but vibrates a bit!

Feek I can always meet you in OC'ers with my MBP if you want to see how quiet it should be.

If only it were that simple. It's being posted back, I live too far away to drop it in myself. Thanks for the offer though.

I put a 320GB WD Scorpio Black in my MacBook a couple of months back (when they were £55) and it's quieter than the original crappy Fujitsu drive. Can barely hear it, if yours makes a noise I'd assume it was faulty.

After reading this thread Im leaning towards the WD Scorpio Black 320gb upgrade in my MBP.

Anyone got any updates on their drive noise/performance?

Is it worth getting the 7200rpm over the 5400rpm?

I've posted my benchmark results in this thread and it also includes a benchmark of a similar or identical hard drive to the original.

As for noise and vibration, it remains the same for me compared to the original that came with my unibody MacBook Pro.
