My new 330d

nope, not the same noise etc not by a long shot. i recon added noise adds an extra illusion of speed, thats one thing ive missed in the past with diesels, nothing quite like giving a petrol engine a good thrashing

I always under the impression that diesels were slow....

Quite amazing it does 0-60 in 7 odd seconds.

Well done chap :)

ive got an E320 cdi at the mo. 2 tons etc 3.2 diesel and auto. does 60 in under 8 iirc.

where have you been for the last 3-4 years? lol loads of quick diesels out there

Looks nice. :D Good engine but I dont think I could live with a Diesel. I like to take my cars upto redline.

Yup, diesel's have redlines too :D. I never understood the whole "OMG it only revs to 4000rpm!!!111 LOLZ" thing. Yes mine does rev to only 4500rpm, but the power also kicks in hard at 1750rpm and stays there till 4500, it sure as hell doesn't do that on a petrol.

My diesel will leave most petrols for dead too - leaving a nice cloud of smoke :p

Just found out that the grill is not a 330d grill! Also, the light inserts should be black. I was already aware that the bonnet had been resprayed, but I didnt know anymore than that.

I wonder if the front bumper is also new

I imagine it's been resprayed. I suspect mine has - because it looks *immaculate*, and I would expect stone chips all over it at its mileage. Your headlamp lenses probably had cracks in it (like mine does due to the heat of the bulbs), and have been replaced. I guess the titanium inserts were put in when they were replaced - they do look good in that colour though.

A new grille won't set you back much on eBay if you want to add the bling back :D

To all you chaps with the 330Ds, get a remap done sooner rather than later.

It drives like a whole different car! Even better than it is already. The increased power and torque is immense, 220bhp and 460Nm is not to be sniffed at.

NickXX - By the way, whats this Sony amp you speak of and is it easy to fit?

Hi mate, the amp is called the Sony XM-423SL also known as the Sony 'Sound on Top'. Keep your eyes on ebay for a few days - I got mine for £31 at the weekend.

You need the amp and a ISO<->BMW cable. I received the amp today, but the cable is coming tomorrow, so haven't fit it yet. I took the dash apart yesterday and it seems very easy to fit.

You have to pry off a bit of the trim over the glovebox and around the stereo - very easy and safe (I was originally terrified of doing such a thing). You then unscrew the Stereo from the front (the screws are under the trim), then pull it out.

After that you need to remove the glovebox, again very easy - you just undo the five, easy to access, screws that hold it in and pull it out.

All you need to do then is unclip the stereo, plug in the BMW lead, connect it to the amp, connect the amp to the speaker loom with the other bit of the ISO<->lead, then cable tie the amp behind the glove box, and screw it all back in.

The amp is said to do wonders - the reason the stereo is so poor is that the speakers are driven off the HU, which completely lacks power. I intend to throw some new speakers in once the amp is sorted, and possibly get a sub too. Will keep you updated on how I get on anyway

Very nice but someone has gone and stuck an extra set of doors on it than it should have. :p

The original owner may have choosen silver when it was first ordered, I know that's one of the things you can change.

But if it has had all those bits replaced best make sure it has been an sort of serious accident.

Secondly, you'll lose the steering wheel controls (it is very difficult to get them to work after a HU change I've heard),
Not true, you just need the correct adaptor cable, AutoLeads do them for pretty much every make/model. Think I paid a tenner for one and all my steering controls work fine with my HU.

Ah cool, didn't realise this. Must be the twits over at BMWland wiring them in wrong or something. Some seemed to struggle with theres either getting nothing to work or just getting the volume up to work (not down or track skip!).
