My new Dell 2405FPW - pictures & first impressions

Can anyone tell me the dimentions of the LCD screen, as in the viewable bit..
I was going to draw a box on paper to get a 'feel' for the size. The specs on dell's site are for the entire box and stand it seems.. So if anyone's got a tapemeasure I'd be greatful :)

happy to hear that Stan. I still browse in a window in the middle of the screen roughly the size of my old monitor! :) about 1280 x 1024 i'd say, purely out of habit, but when you want to do side by side it's excellent

All I could do for the past few months was to read all the posts about this monitor. I was thinking to myself: should i or should i not get this monitor (after seeing Badass's pics).....

Come to 2nd February 2006, the CityLink guy was dragging the damn box to my front door, so I helped him with it :D and thanked him with a can of coca-cola.

I've just opened the box up and was suprised that no power cable was supplied - though it doesn't matter. :) Just set it up in the sitting room - but not bought the old monitor out of my room yet. So it's not connected to the computer.

Bye bye old 19inch CRT, you've served me well for 6 years now :(. Expect pictures soon :) I'll show its size in comparision to something else I got. :D

Heh, wonder how long you'll have it before you stop obsessing about finding dead pixels on it, lol.

My first two both had several red hot pixels, one of them had really patchy backlighting. Third one came from somewhere else, and its perfect :D All three appear to tilt slightly to the right though (clockwise) So forced it slightly anticlockwise (not hard, just slight) now it appears to sit perfectly center, even if I tilt it and put it back :) I still don't get over how big it is, but then, I do have a 15" tft sitting near it, so it always looks massive in comparison!

Your never gonna guess what maria (the GF) might be buying and she hasnt even got a pc yet! I was speaking to her the other day about getting another pc and shes already got her eye on a 2405! I will be taking it :p

I might just whack the exentia up to it and just use it anyway even though the exentia's got a built in screen :D

Ive just got my 2405, courtesy of Monkee. Cheers mate ;) First impressions; Its huge! Not only that, would it looks really wide, and I mean REALLY wide. I rebought Far cry the other day, after I had lost the disc. It going to be fun testing this monitor out in the jungle :D

Hmmm.... soon after I posted, I thought what's the point of waiting (during the lunch break), so I got rid of the 19inch CRT to the lounge, and lifted the 2405 to my room. Had to download the driver from the Dell website since there was no driver on my disk (the monitor.exe file would not work easily).

I must say it's freed a lot of space on my desk. Downloaded some widescreen (1920x1200) wallpapers though I'm gonna make some from the digicam soon.

Nice and bright, no dead pixels at the moment (fingers crossed).

Verdict: Buy it! It's a fantastic monitor.
