Well your landlord is clearly stupid. I would just do it and then in a year when you leave and he checks it over he will probably just think it was like that when you moved in. Especially if you use one of these:

I shouldn't laugh, but this is like newbie error number one. Never, ever trust a landlord; doubly so for a student landlord. I'd never rent a place that I hadn't seen as it was going to be when I move in, or - at the very least - have a detailed, written description of what they're going to do.
Extension cable and cable ties will turn that into a usable desk. Failing that, a cheap computer desk won't set you back much if you can fit it in anywhere.
student problems: "my desk has no holes to put my cables through. RAGEEEEEEEEE"
I can imagine the conversation when he is pulling at the club: "hey, I'd take you back to my place but my desk has no holes for cabling!!! GRRRRRR".

Current 'desk' is a simple bit of white painted wood, presumably screwed to a strip of wood running along the back/side walls.
Unscrew current desk, place in loft/under bed/wherever.
Obtain large rectangular piece of wood. Paint/cut to size. Screw to existing mounting 'rails' on walls.
Swap back at end of tenancy.
OR
Obtain large rectangular lightweight piece of wood. Paint/cut to size. Place on top of current desk, screw down.
At end of tenancy, fill screwholes and repaint white.
