My new house, GRR

Yeha ill just do it, shrug.

might try do it in the other 3 rooms so he probs think it was done on purpose.

what shud i use to cut the hole evenly though?

Twist the bed so its against the other wall.
move the draws up.
Buy another desk.

You think your room was bad? should have seen mine....put it this way, i never recieved any of my deposit back.

so, off the phone to my landlord

'would it be alright to make a hole in the corner of the desk for cables and such?'

no i wouldn't really be happy with that it should be fine as it is

'well its just that theres wires all over the place at the moment'

yes but future tenants might have no need for the desk other than writing so it'd be of a great inconvenience to them!

RAGE

dude would you like some cheese with your whine? seems resonable of the landlord to me,

He didn't supply you with a beer cooler? I'm horrified.

Stop whining! bore some holes for the cables, saw/sand off the desk corner, and just worry about the sun reflecting off your monitor/laptop screen.

Just moved into my house for my 2nd year at uni, the house was great when we looked round and it was going to be totally refurbished before we move in, all new built in furniture etc

Ha ha!

I shouldn't laugh, but this is like newbie error number one. Never, ever trust a landlord; doubly so for a student landlord. I'd never rent a place that I hadn't seen as it was going to be when I move in, or - at the very least - have a detailed, written description of what they're going to do.

Extension cable and cable ties will turn that into a usable desk. Failing that, a cheap computer desk won't set you back much if you can fit it in anywhere.

No Mould on the walls - Check
Room bigger than 3mx3m - Check
Carpet not 20yrs+ old and covered in dubious stains - Check
Bed not covered in even more dubious stains - Check.

OMG it's a palace for student accom!

1st world problems eh

student problems: "my desk has no holes to put my cables through. RAGEEEEEEEEE"

I can imagine the conversation when he is pulling at the club: "hey, I'd take you back to my place but my desk has no holes for cabling!!! GRRRRRR".

chesus christ..

"hey, I'd take you back to my place but my desk has no holes for cabling!!! GRRRRRR".

lmao

or..

"id take you back to mine, but im afraid its a health and safety hazard due to the slight point on my desk"

Current 'desk' is a simple bit of white painted wood, presumably screwed to a strip of wood running along the back/side walls.
Unscrew current desk, place in loft/under bed/wherever.
Obtain large rectangular piece of wood. Paint/cut to size. Screw to existing mounting 'rails' on walls.
Swap back at end of tenancy.

OR

Obtain large rectangular lightweight piece of wood. Paint/cut to size. Place on top of current desk, screw down.
At end of tenancy, fill screwholes and repaint white.

Are there loads of yorkshiremen in this thread? "Back in my day we were happy if there was a desk between the 30 of us living in a 2 bedroom flat"

You will soon realise that student landlords in general are a scummy bunch and you will get little from them. Only ever had one good landlord period, the rest have been either dire or barely passable.

Erm wtf? That place looks totally awesome for some student digs. You need to man the **** up! Student digs doesn't get much better than that!

90% of the complaint seems to be about having messy cables for your PC? lolwtfwut?

Wow, that place looks awesome compared to my student digs for 2 years which was a house of 5 of us. two of my walls were damp and the shelves would regularly fall out the wall.

there was a hole where the pipes were routed from my room (ground floor) straight up to one of the room upstairs so I could reqularly hear the bedroom antics of my housemate and his boyfriend.

still was only £35pw with no summer rent back then

mannn up tbh

i know i shouldnt have, but i giggled :P

"I could reqularly hear the bedroom antics of my housemate and his boyfriend. "
