My New Boa Constrictor

Hi there, today i got a Python for a little change to fish ect.

Anyway i no the basics of keeping Pythons but im just looking for little bits of advice, some things i should know maybe.

Anyway he isnt feeding at the moment but the man said it could take him a few days to get used to his new surroundings, any ideas?

Im also feeding him on mice and im wondering how long will the mice keep for once took out the freezer? and am i able to re-freez them after them being out and heated?

Thanks a lot guys

Sam.

Well its only 2 foot like he said, but i rekon a large portion of his leg will have a snakes mouth wrapped round it :p

As long as i keep it well fed im hoping it wont bite me, and i no its only 2 feet but i still have some bumbell weights on top of it, im making sure it doesnt get out! :P and when it gets a little bigger ill make a front opening tank for it so it cant knock the lid off :P

Hey, i'm guessing it's a Royal Python, if it is then looking at a good care sheet will help a lot, I used them when I first started keeping snakes. Good one here If you need any help or anything drop me an email.

Hey! this is getting out of hand hehe :P

Any idea on how long these mice last after defrost guys? and can they be re frozen?

I wouldn't re-freeze them, but the max for keeping them after defrosting would be 24 hours, leave it in one of the snakes hides to see if he/she takes it in the night.

It could take a few days for it to settle in, not really anything to worry about. Is it a Royal Python, how old is it and when was it last fed before you bought it?

DO NOT re-freeze the mice! Don't heat them up either, just take them out of the freezer and let them thaw. Never, ever refreeze them.

If you have any questions, ask away. But I'd seriously read some care sheets, and look for some good books / websites.

Royal pythons are notoriously fussy eaters although mine is a complete monster and has only ever realyl stopped eating once for about 6 weeks heh.

Try either putting the defrosted mouse in one of the hides and leave it over night or I have some long handled feeding tongs and you can try dangling the mouse and twitching it around a bit to entice the snake to strike.

Some people like to heat the mouse up a little with a hairdryer as it gives a much better feeding response from royals as they have heat pits so they will sense it better as well as the smell.

So is it ok to just keep the mouse in the tank rather than dangling it to make him strike?

Oh and how can i make it as tame as possible? i dont want him to bit anyone you see.

Aye, that can certainly help with fussy feeders. Just don't over do the heating up so you cook the mouse heh

I actually popped one on top of a radiator once with the intention of leaving it on for a few seconds but I forgot all about it. My God, that taught me a lesson.
