My Parrot died today :(

My very pretty boy Indian Ringneck died today, he was 10 and a half years old.

I noticed this morning he wasn't his usual chatty self and when I returned from work, I gave him his usual food which he didn't touch, he also seemed weak/lethargic, contacted vet who suggested to keep an eye on him and bring him in tomorrow morning. A few hours later I checked up on him and he was just hanging by one claw on his rope like a bat. He passed away in my hands a few hours ago.

Awww. Sorry to hear that. Our furry (and feathery) buddies touch our lives in ways our non-pet-owning brethren don't understand.

You have my condolences, that's extremely young for a parrot.

For those that aren't aware, that particular breed has a life expectancy of 25-30 years. It must have come as one hell of a shock, you sort of expect it with a cat or dog around that age even if it still hurts.

Thanks for all the kind messages, walked into the living room only to see his empty cage, like being punched in the gut twice.

Pet's mean more to you than you even realise.

Sorry to hear. Pets are family. They are there every day waiting for you. You often see them more than family and sometimes even partners. They never moan and are always happy.

Then that day and house feels empty as well as yourself. Sometimes I wonder why we do it to ourselves as the loss is so hard.
