my phenom940 benchies

well my old sb600 motherboard didn't clock my 9850 very well and in 64bit os was a no go at 3ghz even at high voltage, but on my sb750 motherboard my 9850 clocks easy, 3ghz with only 1.35v even in 64bit os

I think that argument is now irrelevant because the ACC features are built-in to the new PII.

Yes, the new 750 chipset helps overclock the old Phenom but appears to not effect the new Phenom at all. :)

only 3.5???

None of those look like good clocks, on any of the boards lol.

I didn't say they were, I was more concerned about the cap being with the SB600.

It could be an anomaly, but it could also suggest the older SB600 has nothing to worry about - good for me, good for many current AMD owners. :)

Take a look at this:

file.php

This German site actually found the OLD SB600 to clock the best, very interesting.
but do u really trust them?

i never trust review/benchmark sites....

finally got it up and running!

Antec 900 Case
Matrox 650w psu
Gigabyte MA790X-DS4 Motherboard (sorry, am3 soon)
Phenom 940 BE
2x2GB OCZ Ram
XFX 8800GTX XXX Edition

as u can see got 2x120mm fans on my thermalright ultra extreme 120. also a 80mm fan on the chipset/mofset to keep them cool as i heard they get hot!

case in my room just now
and pic of temps at idle stock everything

ill be doing some clocking till bout 1am then some more tormoz! iill keep updating! enjoy!

ok thouyght id try the multiplier first!

stock volts, not changed ANYTHING but multi, rock solid stable after 7hours+

more to come!

yup, this is why I think these chips should clock well and with proper tweaking do better than most of the reviews showed, but also why I have even higher hopes for the 25% lower power AM3 versions coming in new stepping. This chips are apparently scaling very very VERY well with voltage, like more juice almost always gets you more speed as long as you can cool it all the way up to , well, 6.3Ghz :p

I can't see a new stepping with 30W less power use not overclocking further so I reckong they'll pretty much all do 4Ghz and the high ones that do 3.9/4Ghz now will turn into 4.3/4.4Ghz.

My chip never turned up though, gits, probably monday now :(

Matty, did you make note of the batch number of chip before sticking it in the rig by chance?

i did take a pic of the chip before i put it in yeh :-)

right went past 3.7Ghz using just multipliter 4hours stable, went upto 3.8Ghz using multipliter, unstable after 2hr's 40mins....

Upped voltage to 1.45v, now stable as **** again after several hours of stabling, gonna leave it testing a bit longer, then ill post a screen and then head towards 3.9 and 4.0ghz..

i want to see how far i can get as if i was a noob to overclocking, cus if 4ghz plus is possible with just multi and voltage upping slightly, it might even be possible on stock cooler lol?

im v impressed so far tho...

now i've really decided to get one. i'm borrowing the money from my gf :D so im ordering on monday :). i like the low temps and theres a lot of headroom because the max temp of these cpu are 62c..

ill be going for more then 4ghz fingers crossed hehe :-P
