My Rally Project

Awesome mate, I'm loving this thread.

You wouldn't happen to have any of the front lower driving lights spare would you? Even just the glass / surround.... :)
You can get Denji ones from the bay for around £40 which are the same as the originals (I think), I only changed the lens and surround, and used the original back part. It all fits together and seems waterproof...

ethos, No - I have a few 309 GTI ones but they are different.

Tried bleeding the brakes last night to check for leaks etc.

Did not go well. One bleed nipple at the front snapped off (as they are prone to on 1.6 calipers) and one of the rear bleed nipples looks like it's rounding off as well. The bias and hydro handbrake make it harder to bleed as well so tonight I think I'll get the ol' pressurising Ezibleed out to force the fluid through.

******* cars!

Well, yesterday I snapped the OTHER front bleed nipple, car wouldn't fit back in the garage because of all the disorganised crap in there, everything fell out and there was crap all over the floor - so I had a strop, lost direction and had a night of scowling instead.

Today, fresh start. Made a to-do list.

Went back down the garage.
Tidied it up.
Whipped off the 1.6 calipers (which are crap anyway) and fitted 1.9 calipers off my old 309.
Painted the arch trim with some vinyl paint.
Fibreglass repaired the front valance.
Repaired my broken water block on the back of the engine.
Not a great deal of work, but I can now get the car in and out of the garage without knocking everything flying and losing my temper.

In pictures:

This, trust me, is tidy:

You have a metal distribution block!? I could only find the crap plastic ones at the scrapyard when I needed one :(

I have a spare o-ring here for the block if you need one :)

Got an O ring - thanks - but I don't trust my repair on the metal block, it's only Quicksteel.... got any plastic spares just incase?

Afraid not - I managed to keep on snapping them, mainly the outlet goes to the bottom rad hose (with the metal pipe) :(

should have used chemical metal. that stuff is the dogs. :)

Quicksteel is just a type of Chemical Metal (I've never got on with Chemical Metal myself, never seemed to adhere well enough)

fonzee - Clarke hobby range welders are very good for the money, I'd definitely say they are the best budget welders you can get. I bought a gasless one for versatility (you can either use it gasless or swap it to gas)

More fiddling:

Rear drum components after a few days in Hydrate80. Remember how rusty they were!?

Petrol pipes finished and clipped in place

Finally tidied up my nuts n bolts box:

Angle is around 45 degrees - not ideal, but within suggested safety limits:

Bolt on arches. Love it or hate it?

They're actually bolted on for a reason - all the fixings were broken and they're a pain in the ass to take on and off, so I thought "sod it, I'll bolt them on instead" :D

Would look better with some flatter headded bolts, possibly red anodized.

Or, go down the proton route and rivet them on :D

What's with the mad face, it was a suggestion, of a possbility.

Black would probably look the best in all honesty, but if you were going for the stealth option you wouldn't have used bolts at all.
