My Rally Project

Ah. fair enough, at least you have a place to work on cars, I mean I have a place, but I have to drive like 120miles to get there :p.

Loving the work on the 205, if it's going to the next RR, you'll have to take me out in it, even in it's current state it looks rather cool and fun, should be really cool when it's finished...get it done ;)

I think I've figured out the real reason I'm so disinterested at the moment.

The roof beams are leaking water and this is where my lights are fitted in the garage. Since it's started raining 24 hours a day my lights have been constantly been buzzing on and off and it's doing my head in. The water ingress has corroded the internal earth which is why they keep cutting out.

It drove me into a fit of rage earlier so it's time to sort it out.

Tomorrow (when it's actually daylight and I can see what I'm doing) I will move the light to a new position where it won't get leaked on any more. I can't really fix the roof with flashband because it's too wet, so this will have to do. Then I can actually plough on with proper work.

Get your arse in gear! Some of us were working in the rain today! ;)

No excuses, get it done :p

Can we move the deadline to the 11th, my friendly MOT man is away on holiday until that week!

Get your arse in gear! Some of us were working in the rain today! ;)

I HATE being on my back, in the rain, looking up into an engine bay, getting dripped on:(
Tomorrow I shall get my revenge, as Mr Angle Grinder will be making an apperance to help facilitate getting the engine out the mondeo though :D

Looking good Leon - you doing better than me, im still parts collecting!!

Not a lot done this weekend but a couple of "breakthroughs"

1) Finally got that sodding light to stop flickering :D

2) Got the nuts freed off the manifold studs thanks to nextdoors vice

3) Got the annoying holes cut in the bulkhead (I chose to cut through where the metal is thickest )

4) Carpet is done, interior can start going in which means brake lines and fuel lines can be fitted properly

So, pics

One filthy carpet:

One bukakke session:

Add a little jetwash and.....

One clean carpet:

Okay so it isn't perfect, but then it wouldn't be afterbeing trodden on since 1988.

Here are the holes in the bulkhead for the new internal fuel pipes.

Not especially pretty but functional and all they had in stock at Focus.

Pirtek is one of our major accounts at work so they are sending me a couple of little fittings I need for the fuel lines which is very nice of them :D

I'm in a much better mood about the whole thing now and ready to get some decent progress made this week. Ideally engine in before friday.

8v or the mi16?

I'd REALLY like to stick a mi16 in the girlfriends....

Project is coming along nicely, how stripped out are you going to leave it?

8v. Mi16 engines are getting old, ropey and are expensive to rebuild so I'm steering clear for now. Plus they have oil surge issues which would annoy me.

The car won't be very stripped out at all. For road rallies you need carpet/headlining/back seats/door cards/dashboard so it will all stay.

It's been too cold for me to be feeling particularly inspired, so I took advantage of the mild weather today.

Interior hoovered out and ready:

Carpet back in

Then it was time to sort the engine. Bolted the gearbox back on and slid the whole lot under the car (hard work on your own)

Steady as she goes

In!

Now I have the ballach of connecting everything back up and finish rewiring the headlights. Joy.

Next time you need a hand give me a shout, if I'm free I'll pop over. I'm only in Ashby.

Cheers I will :)

Attu90 - to be honest, skill doesn't come into it - it's all experience and having a practical mind. The most important thing of all in a project is having a working space - preferably big, tidy, and well lit. I think Muncher and L1J will vouch for me on this one!

Working outside, or in dark dingy cramped garages like mine is very depressing and makes it difficult to get yourself motivated.

if im ever lucky enough to earn enough moolah for a place with a garage down in the london area i'd love a kit car project. I dont have a clue what i'm doing but im sure the whole experience would be immense fun and proove to me that its not actually that hard to do some of this stuff.....

to put it into perspective id struggle changing a tyre to be honest :o

Looking good Leon :D
You very nearly had a visitor earlier - as I've just returned (BIG fuel pump in hand!!) from a trip oop'north
Might have an update on my long termer soon as well ;) (and I can eventually start a project thread!)

Looking good Leon! Nice to see it is coming together.

Same for me though, if you need any help/extra tools just give me a bell.
