The 250 & 320Gb drives are one platter. You'll see how light they are when you take them out of the box
I very much doubt it - probably be more likely 2 * 250Gb platters or at best 2 * 320Gb where one is full used and the other partially (though thats wasting a lot of space and probably be a costly option)So if people are saying the 250GB drive uses *part* of a 320GB platter, do you think that means the 500GB drive will use 2 x *part* of a 320GB platter?
I ordered these from another place. They sent me 2 x 160gb Deskstars in packaging for RE2s
omg, what a joke
go mental
i have bought 2x250gb re3 burst is only 345 mb/s how come you peeps are getting such high bursts? im on vista 64 bit read is ok at 190mbs
If you're using a Intel RAID motherboard you need to install the 8.5 Matrix RAID drivers and then open the matrix storage manager. Right click on the array and enable 'write backed caching' or something along those lines
By default it's off as a precaution against data loss in the event of power failure. But when you turn it on it improves burst performance dramatically.
You will see it, a Single RE3 gets about 91-95MB/Sec Average Sustained Read.
also should u use ahci or sata
I used AHCI to get NCQ+Hotpluging (for the sake of it).
You need load a Driver at Windows install though (XP).
Your BIOS choices should be SATA/AHCI or RAID. Presumably you're already using RAID mode which includes the AHCI benefits. Just update to 8.5 and you'll be on your way.
