My sense of reality has been lost..

My 19 year old mate is looking to buy an E46 M3 or a SLK 55AMG. All down to your money! I dont think I could EVER justify spending so much on insurance, Im paying a grand at the moment and thats hefty imo.

 ! SLK!

Just under 1/3rd of your take home pay will be on insurance.

How are you going to pay for the car and running it after that aswell as live

I wont, which why after the first 7replys to this thread it finally dawned upon on me that the z4 is going to have to wait a little bit longer.

Lol- and you had to ask an internet forum to work that out

What and you think a 240bhp Astra will be cheaper?

Buy something cheaper, there are a load of nice cars around for much smaller amounts of money which are much more sensible.

Then save for when you have to put down a deposit on a house. Blowing your expendable income is fun, but when buying a house comes along its a whole load of money that you could have spent on a much more stable asset.

Very true. But you will be tied to a mortgage for 25 years. Nowt wrong with having some fun first.

There are far cheaper ways of having some fun with cars..

You've got the rest of your life to spend all your money on boring junk like mortgage repayments, council tax bills, water bills, electric bills, a petrol strimer and wonderng whether you can get away with a new TV before you need to replace the boiler.

We've all got 30, 40, 50, 60 years of that crap. Whats 5 or so being reckless and blowing cash on cool stuff?

5 years was going from easily affording a house to finding it difficult ;)

Iv'e heard you spout this many a time, I wonder how you will feel in hindsight

Every night I dream of owning a petrol strimer :o

The best way is to be over pesimistic about just how much everything is going to cost. Then 6 months after buying a house you find a nice wedge (comparitively speaking) burning a hole in your pocket then its car upgrade time :p

As for that original insurance quote  In December my insurance will be 1/10th of that fully comp + business use. I must be getting old :(

When i have paid off my mortage ten years before everyone else my age pays theirs off i bet I will be sooo annoyed that i had an older 530 rather than a z4 :D

£ 2,153.14 Third party through YES.. im climbing on to that cloud again folks!

I'm just on the phone to my local Flak battery..... :D

Your sense of reality has driven off faster than even a Z4!

I'm 36 earning circa £30k per year yet I still wince @ the £680 quoted for me to get an E39 M5 - never mind the running costs.

My 728i isn't cheap to run (fuel, tyres, maintenance etc) I can well imagine my financial pain if I had to pay £2.2k for TPFT cover for a car and then something unforseen happens.....

Think VERY carefully mate.

I get paid £14.5k a year at 22 and have a mortgage + my CTR. I pay finance on the car and I pay £1500 insurance currently.

Thankfully, the mortgage and bills are shared so I can own my car, which is my main source of a social interest and hobby and my other half shares that too, although she can't drive it herself.

I'd rather be a bit skint and have the car I want than have a bit of money aside I suppose. I'd certainly have my mortgage over living with my parents.

Get an RX8 - Amazing car for the money, i'm 20 and i pay around £1500 to insure it fully comp.

0-60 6.2s
150mph
It has four doors and seats four people comfortably, which is an added bonus
Amazing around corners
looks fantastic

Problem with the RX8 is that although it looks good it's really cheap and nasty inside which spoils it somewhat. They'll be well worth having when they depreciate to a couple of grand but at their current prices you kinda expect more quality for the money.
