My Silverstone Fortress Build

well i measured the space last night and it's just over 130mm so i'm not sure whether to squeeze a 140mm fan in there (which i think would fit) or stick with a 120mm fan. By squeezing the 140mm in it wont require any cable ties to hold it in place etc. not sure though

what do people reckon

If you are certain that the 140 will fit and you have one to try, then I would suggest you try that. Otherwise if you have a 120 lying around, give it a go, no point wasting money on a new fan if it makes little to no difference.

ah good point.

i've a spare 120mm in the attic which i'll hunt out to try. If it's an improvment then i'll get another Xigmatek just to keep the fans the same

Let us know how you get on, although I doubt it will make a big difference, but I stand to be corrected :)

i'm unsure also but feel the amount of heat coming from my crossfire setup is having a negative affect on the large 180mm fan at the front and just circulating up into rest of the case.

So to direct more air at the cards and not allow it into the case i thought another fan might help?

i found out my old Zalman 120mm fan and (quite crudely) attached it.

best thing is with the side window on you can't see it :D

here's some pictures (taken on mobile sorry)

Edit: i have since levelled off the fan with a stopper on the top right corner.

idle temps as follows. in this heat i think that's ace with gpu fans on 50%

why is there a floppy drive in this beast? i hope its been removed now lol!!!
How much of an improvment was the jump from 2 4870's to the 5870?

performance wise it is very much similar. but the feel of games just feels smoother. A lot quieter too as my two 4870's used to both be on 40% fan speeds and get quite warm.

650 watts on that rig + 2 g cards. would imagine its at max-ish?!

Very nice install. I've wanted that case for quite some time myself.
i just can be bothered to disconnect and reconnect in new case. lol

i never had any power issues with the 650w. even when the cards were clocked it coped very well.

Build looks amazing. I think the cfp51 spoils the look of the case though, would be better if it was just the grill on the front like the Kama.

yeah i'm glad i never purchased one and kept the kama.
