Excellent!! Thanks very much - English at last!!

Does anyone know how to force the N95 to use a GPRS connection even when 3G is available?

I'm using push email with Roadsync, which is perfect but the constant 3G connection is killing the battery in 9 hours.

Pros-
Great Camera
Fantastic Video recording quality
Very good stereo speakers
Relatively small (used to own a P910i)
Wifi
Decent web browser
3G video calling
? GPS (I don't use it)

Cons-
Rubbish build quality (mine anyway. it feels flimsy and rattly - although the slider on my brothers n95 is even more rattly than mine!)
Rubbish Call quality (Hissing and echos)
Rubbish battery life (charging it at least once every day)
I also keep accidentally exiting applications because my thumbs keep knocking the menu buttons on either side of the d-pad.
One other thing - there doesn't seem to be an option so you can hide away any private photos/videos from prying eyes ;) - anyone know if there is a downloadable app that lets me do this?

YES, I need that feature aswell, cannot show the family the photos I have just taken incase they see some undesirable photos in the gallery. Anyone know a app to hide these?

Change the phone from dual-mode to GSM only.

Here's a related question,

Whenever I want to access the internet on my N95, I get the option of Orange WAP GPRS or Orange Internet...what's the difference and which should I aim to use?

i have absolutely no issues with the battery life on my n95... i charge it once ever 3 days or so... but then i hardly ever use it :p

I dont really know why people complain about the battery life. There isnt a phone on the market that does as much as the n95 in such a small compact device. Simple as that. If you want that, plus the ability to recharge once every week, then quite simply you are looking for a phone that doesnt exist.

Exactly, you hardly use it which is fair enough but the people like me who do use it constantly are finding the battery to be the weakest point of the phone. Seriously thats the only major gripe i have with it even tho i get the high pitched whining noise but that i can live with.
Its not only people here who have been complaining about the battery life, reviews all over the net are saying the weakest point of the phone is the battery. Anyways its not such a big thing that i feel i have to get rid of the phone, i charge my phone every night anyways lol...im just saying that the battery could have been better or with more capacity.

Well everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if (like you) it's wrong. If you are the kind of chap that gets rid of a handset after only one day of 'use' then i'm not sure you are the right person to be giving advice (if you can call it that) of any kind. Dont get me wrong i'm not being nasty, i just think you are flawed in many of your statements and it's just not helpfull to plant seeds of doubt in peoples' minds without due cause. let people make their own minds up i say.

LOL ok dude...so my opinion is wrong then??...so i guess the people in here who have mentioned the battery on the n95 are wrong too??.
Can i ask you something??..do you actually work for Nokia??, reason i ask is that it seems that my comment bothered you quite a bit and you took it kinda personally. If so then what can i say??, everyone is entitled to their opinion of the phone...i gave mine and whether people take it or not is of no concern to me...im just pointing out what the problems are with this phone.
Id love to see where im flawed on many of my statements by the way;), at least have the courage to back up your statements. I dont think me saying the battery on the n95 is flawed in any way, shape or form. I think your living in a dream world or else you have an n95 thats near perfect ie perfect battery life etc etc.
As for the little popshot about me returning a phone after one day etc etc, well ive been buying and using mobile phones probably since the day u were in nappies lol. i dont see why people have to put up with shoddy workmanship, i dont pledge allegiance to SE or nokia solely, i buy my phones purely on the basis that they do the job well and do it quick enough without causing me to have headaches and the N80, as much as it was a lovely phone was nothing more than a headache to me. But the fact remains that SE have much better batteries than the Nokia N series, whether or not you accept that is of no concern to me...its just my opinion so dont take it to heart.

Am sorry if it that hurts your sensitive feelings about people having a dig at Nokia;):p

it could have been better, yes. but if you charge it every night anyway its really not a big deal:)

Exactly, its not such a big problem that im thinking of sending the phone back for a refund. Now if it was software related problems ie very slow, crashes etc etc then perhaps i would be looking at sending it back and getting something else. But so far the phone is extremely impressive.

Does the phone play .avi files? I copied over one of my DVD's but can't seem to get it to play (DivX encoded). Do I need to get some other software to watch .avi movies? If so, what do you recommend?

I think you need to download divx mobile for playing those files...theres a thread lower down the page which has more info.

Still waiting for my 4gb sandisk SD card, hopefully it will work with the n95...well the place i bought it from claims it works perfectly fine with it.

I'd re-encode the files to normal mpeg or avi. DivX can be processor intensive, and would mostly likely drain the battery faster than with 'normal' videos.
:).

hee hee, 'dude' calm down! :p If you've been buying mobile phones since i was in nappies then you're probably too old to know how to use one properly! :p

Do they allow mobile phones in your retirement home??? :D

joking dude. seriously, my battery is fine, i can beast it as much as i can and i still cant get it to run out before the two day mark. like yesterday I was watching the football results with interest on football365 live update (well done you irons!) using a wifi internet connection for 3.5 hours with no effect on the battery, plus all the other usual mobile stuff. Today I’ve still got 5 bars left. Is there any possibility that my batt is just better than yours?? surely there is some logical reason?

The n95 is a ford GT, great car, but if you wanna open the taps you gotta stop at every petrol station.

Its easy to argue but actually agree all along.

When you break it down, the battery life may not be amazing, but there isnt a single phone that: (1) does what the n95 does in such a compact device AND (2) has good battery life. If such a phone existed, and then a heavy user still bought an n95, then they would be pretty dumb :)

So when you choose a phone you have to think what you want more, features or battery life. You can only have both if you buy a less compact phone. I fortunately am the ideal target market for the n95. I want all the features now and then, but mainly i dont use my phone all that much, hence battery life isnt an issue for me.

It must be pretty irritating to a heavy user, that one of the best phones on the market in terms of features, is not an option for them because of battery life. This is why i think every now and again people have to vent their anger at the puney battery. for me its great though.

Got mine today and im liking it. Just one Q, how do you get it to ring longer before going to answer phone ? Im on T-mobile if that makes any differance.

I wonder how well this phone holds up compared to my TyTN.

Possibly...hard to say really. im just waiting to see if Nokia bring out a higher capacity battery for the n95, something like 1200 or 1500 mah would do nicely. Saying that though, ive seen another place that is doing a 1000mah n95 battery but its not the official one so rather not take the chance really.

Here ya go, works perfectly fine on my n95, have it set to 25 secs before going to voicemail...

enter **61*your full voicemail number*11*?# then press send

Replace the ? with the numebr of secs you want ie if u want a 15 sec gap before it goes to voicemail then put in 15.

Also the voicemail number needs to put in correctly, if you dial the voicemail number you will see it begins with 44...so make sure u enter all the digits or else it wont work ie mine would be like this...**61*4478960896908*11*25#

Hope that helps :). Btw this just isnt for tmobile..it might work on other networks but i dont know which ones.

If you don't know your voice mail number or are scared of hash codes you can just set it in the menu.. Tools, Settings, Phone, Call Divert, Voice Calls, If not answered, Activate, To Voice Mail then pick the delay from the menu.. only goes up to 30 seconds though iirc :)

I've also finally managed to get Mail for Exchange to work.. just as my road sync trial ran out too :D
