N95 Release

i had a play with the N95 yesterdy in a phone shop...i've got to say i wasnt impressed by the build of it, the navigation buttons above the number buttons, were very hard to use, and seemed a bit flimsy, worse then my N73, camera looked great though, and speed was roughly the same as my N73

EDIT//

havnt read the whole thread, but just want to confirm for the gprs thing, do you need to pay for internet access for the phone to download the map where you are, and where you want to go? and you can set in a location where you want to go and it has directions? i know for the voice thing you have to pay extra, but without the voice thing you dont pay anything extra?

You dont have to pay for the internet access to use the GPS as you can download the maps via your pc then install them on your phone. Yes you can choose two different locations and it will show you/track your route as you get there.

I'm exchanging my phone tomorrow, the 'hissing' noise whilst making a call was too annoying - lets hope the new one wont do that.

well have to say O2 are the best. As I mentioned earlier in this thread O2 said they wouldn't be able to get me a phone until the 11th. Well I walk into work this morning and what is waiting for me a brand new N95 delivered from O2 :D

Now just have to wait for my new sim card and then I can finally use this phone. With the quick play I have had so far I am very impressed the menu was very intuiative and the quality is outsanding. This is comparing it to my old K750i. Plus i got a 1GB memory stick. :D just wondering what others got with theirs?

Once I have got the phone up and running I will try and put a mini review together.

Thanks for all the updates Chrisp, really looking forward to your thoughts after you install tomtom6.

Hope your replacement phone is better

Was the N95 worth the wait? or is it still having issues like most of the N Series? I cant decide on the N95 or the E65.

Its has sorted out a lot of the usualy N series problems, its quick, doesnt have memory problems and is generally a solid phone. Of course the battery isnt amazing (but definitely better than the N80). I would definitely go for the N95, the camera is really great, in particular the video quality, and personally I prefer the look of the N95.

What do those of you who have had the phone for a good few days now think of it? Are you happy with it?

I for one am thinking about sending it back - the GPS is the big issue for me, its just doesnt work in practice. Standing stationary for 2 minutes isnt good enough for me, if I am on the street I want to walk and find out where I am instantly so its just a gimmick (apart from people with cars where is will be useful).

The VOIP, camera and speed of it are great but I am thinking maybe I can find another phone, thats cheaper and offers those functions (but not a brick like the Vario II/P990i/Orbitz.

Maybe the iphone in June (unlocked) might be an option? Esepcially If I sell the N95 now.

Interesting Chris, thanks so much for your comments.

My N95 cost me £49.99 and a £100 upgrade fee on Orange, so not too bad I guess. I notice that on auction sites they're going for about £450+. So if I don't like it - selling would always be an option I suppose?

I too definitely want an iphone when they appear.

My N70 has had it so im going to get the N95, but unfortunatly my contract hasnt run out yet so i cant get the upgrade off o2 :(

Bit off topic but who here with an N70 finds that start up time is forever and seems to lag on the Nokia welcome screen. Also anyone experienced problems with their gallery not opening up or it just freezing on the gallery main menu?

Hey Guys,

Ive been trying to play with the Sat Nav thing/program, whatever you want to call it. But whenever I use it I never can get a Satellite, has this happened to anyone else?

Regards,

Matt

Like what Chrisp7 said the GPS is next to useless. It takes forever to get a signal. It could take anything up to 1 minute to 15 minutes!

Anyone buying this for GPS will be bitterly disappointed.

Yep thats the problem I have had too. Make sure you have a good view of the sky, keep the slider open, keep stationary for 2 mins and it should work. Pretty poor tho eh?

That's really poor :( and may put me off getting one.

Hopefully, it is just the inbuilt satnav software and tomtom or some other GPS software which is more established will be better or this will be something that gets seen to in a firmware update.

Also, how easy is it to connect via Wi-Fi and what encryption protocols does it support?

I've had my N95 for about 4 hours now and it's really impressed me.

Where my N80 would chug along this phone speeds between menus like there's no tomorrow! It really is noticeably quicker for me.

The screen is nice, I was afraid I'd miss the N80's high res, but I don't, and it just works - all of it!

The gps thing is as described above. To get a fix I had to stand in the garden not moving an inch for about 4 minutes which is a bit of a shame really as it lets the rest of the phone down a little if you bought it specifically for the gps functionality.

All in all though, I'm really impressed.

I'm charging now so will report back on battery life later. I'm a high texter (I send about 2000 a month) so it'll be interesting to see how the battery life compares with the N80.

Did you not say that was a software problem then and using Gmaps fixed that?

Well if the GPS doesn't work within 10secs of coming out of the underground station then thats pointless then for me.

Shame as I had this lined up as my next upgrade from the N80
