N95 Release

Does the GPS Reciever use Sirf Star II technology? i have a Sirf star III chipset in my PDA's GPS reciever and that from a cold boot takes around 10-30 seconds to track, so i would expect the II chip to be quite abit slower at tracking.

Did you not say that was a software problem then and using Gmaps fixed that?

Well if the GPS doesn't work within 10secs of coming out of the underground station then thats pointless then for me.

Shame as I had this lined up as my next upgrade from the N80

Well thats what I thought, I used it and it seemed to work but I think that was an anomaly. What is does do is hold the signal better and tracks more smoothly, but theres still the problem of getting the signal in the first place.

Yep I am thinking the same and I have until tomorrow to cancel my contract. But my thoughts are, switch to which phone? cant really see any out at the moment that I am interested in (bar the iphone in June!). This phone is very good for navigating using the map function (without GPS of course) and a whol lot better than the N80, but is it worth the expense?

Shouldn't take 4 minutes to lock on though!

I've got a cheap, bluetooth one from the bay a while back and even that locks on in 45 seconds or under.

Sounds like the N95 has a software issue that could be fixed via a firmware or Nokia decided to save a few £'s and used a cheap and nasty antenna.

Anyone tried with TomTom 6 yet?

Seen in the menu options it can support an external bluetooth GPS Receiver.

Does it not work when you select Other NMEA GPS Reciever?

I only have the option to choose "Tom Tom Bluetooth receiver" or "Other bluetooth GPS receiver" How do I get additional options (If possible?)

ah I just read this on another forum:

Ok so tomtom 6 works perfectly the problem and reason why you can't use the internal receiver is when you go to the configure menu the only options are for a tomtom or other bluetooth reciever.

Tomtom 6 for windows overs 4 different types of receiver one being other nmea wired receiver, and then by selecting the correct com port tt uses ti.

Untill someone can develop a patch to incorporate these options to symbian tt6 then it won't work unfortunatley

You shouldn't have to do anything. I've used Tom Tom 5 and now 6. Both have had that option by default. I'm refering to the Windows Mobile versions by the way. The Symbian versions might not have this option.

Never mind, looks like you've found the answer.

Im interested to hear battery life as well.
I send almost 2k a month myself sometimes.
As long as i could go 2 days without a charge, i'd be happy though. :)

2 days, no chance not on these batteries. I have had mine on charge for 8 hours, been using it since 15:00 this afternoon. Only got 4 bars left :(

Depends what you do with it I think. Today I was using GPS, sent a few texts used the Pdf viewer and made a few calls and my phone just went down 2 bars. But the other day I was using everything wifi, GPS and calls at it went down to 3 bars after a days use (but that was quite heavy use). I think its better than the N80 actually, not amazing but better.

Mine was fully charged at 11am. I've sent about 100 text messages since then, used the GPS for about 10 - 15 minutes, browsed the web a little, checked my e-mails twice, and fiddled around with the ringtones etc for about 5 minutes.

I have four bars left.

My N80 would be on 1 bar by now.

So yeah, it's certainly better than the N80 in that department.

well still not got my ism card and will have to wait now until next week :( just out of interest is the data cable just a standards usb a-b cable or is it a special cable. It looks like a standard usb cable but just want to confirm before I start sticking things into it.

Loving this phone more and more even though I can't put it through it's paces it is a joy to work with.

The data cable is a standard USB to mini USB type.
