National insurance cut

This is all the Tories have left

If they cut NI again.. Isn't this just going to cause more tax rises elsewhere? Like council tax?

They need to come clean with what's going to get cut.

Is it not more likely it's to hurt labour?
I don't know of anyone who would change their vote due to this. In fact many see it as irresponsible.

What it does do is make it hard for labour. They would have to raise taxes to claw out back. Not popular!

I Truely think this is what the tories are doing. Making labours job harder. Selfishly, it's the best play to get back in in 5 years time.

That just shows you that it’s all about their own good and nothing at all to do with the countries best interests. It’s ran like a business this mess.

Even though I'm not voting labour, I just hope at least they cut the waste, corruption and self service that the tories are all about.

I'd take tory light with decent people.

Alas.. I'm cynical

I would argue the average joe isn't the top rate.
Average wage in my area is like 26k. That's my average joe lol
it's there or therabouts really.

You have a £12k ish personal allowance, then the next £38k ish benefits from the cut, and anything above that is unchanged at 2%.
3% of £38k is about £1100 so £95 a month or thereabouts.

"Median gross annual earnings for full-time employees was £34,963 in April 2023"
so the average joe (literally) will get about £90/mth increase in take home pay, everyone else earning more than £40k will get a £95/mth increase

no one will be better off by anything because other things go up like council tax and all your bills

give with one hand, take with the other.

how about scrapping the Crown Estate owning all our seabed and coastline?

Cheaper bills for all, whats not to like...

old article fromm 2022
The estate’s first auction of its seabed licences in a decade helped to drive up the value of the portfolio.

The estate awarded licences for six offshore windfarms off the coast of England and Wales, which could generate up to £9bn over the next 10 years. The successful bidders included Germany’s RWE Renewables, which won two licences at Dogger Bank, off the Yorkshire coast, and two from a consortium which includes the oil company BP, which is also investing in renewable energy.
Should say "the crown estate auctioned seabed licenses increasing everyones bills by 9bn over the next 10 years.

It is. It’s not uncommon for a government to lay traps for the next. Tax is one that would hurt labour and if they have to raise it then it will mess them up for a re-election possibility.

Let’s be real here, it’s either you vote labour or your vote is a waste. Sadly no one else will put up a fight here so adding a 3rd party into the mix is only going to increase tories chances of winning and continuing with what ever their end goals are. Labour won’t fix the damage but I’m sorta hoping they’ll at least start to repair it or slow down the sinking.

Such a con. Income tax thresholds are what they need to target.

Apparently all of our income is rising too. I’m yet to meet anyone who is actually doing well out of this.
