Natural Selection 2

Just bought this, never played ns before.

Gameplay seems pretty straightforward and you can get the basics pretty easily, although I'm going to run through the tutorial to learn the finer points. There's some ui stuff I don't understand atm but the important stuff is pretty obvious to anyone who's played a team based fps.

Graphics are ok, I was expecting a graphics extravaganza because of the caching process during loading and people here talking about performance issues.

Played mostly as aliens and the first thing you realise is you're pathetic as a lonely alien and you have to group up with other aliens to make any kind of impact.

The game its most similar to is nuclear dawn, I foresee some epic games in the future where the balance of power is constantly shifting. This has happened during the games I've played so obviously the balancing is spot on.

from the NS2 Facebook page on Thursday:

Pretty impressive balancing for a "new" game :)

Very interesting.

They had some huge balancing issues during the beta I believe so it's great to see it has been taken on board. :)

Overall I found it excellent last night. Played 3-4 hours and enjoyed every minute. :)

It's a bit more skewed now.

Was up to 60 odd % alien win due to the lack of commanders... now people are getting the hang of the more popular marine side and the stats are currently 44% aliens, 56% marines.

My server is running pretty well btw.

I've joined the group and added you server will be on soon, I played on a gaming deluxe server last night and had no problems with ping etc

Anyone else run ns2 with graphics on all low/off? It almost looks like ns1 at times but the performance is so much better (to get close to 60fps ofc).

How is this game for CPU? I have an older CPU that's a bit below min spec but my GPU is quite a big beyond it so I'm wondering if I turn everything to minimum will it be playable? There is no demo so I can't test for myself.

Yes me - and at 800*600 or some low res also :(

And it is only slightly better looking than NS1 like that....

So is this game good then? FrenchTart has been nagging me to death to get this game but I need a second opinion. Is it £19 well spent, or just something that I'd find fun for a week then forget about it once the hype dies down?

That doesn't sound like FT at all!

It's awesome, get it!

£19 well well spent.

Its like a awesome immersive single player horror game, except you have human players running around the maps. It reminded me of playing the likes of doom 3 and avp singleplayer it has this gorgeous air of quality about it.

I loved NS1 (especially some of the fun custom stuff, like fall maps and siege maps), so I may just take the chance for £19 that this will run on my old CPU. I wish they did either an open beta or a demo.

Somewhat cpu heavy people are saying but even with settings all low/off my minimum fps is below 60 still. My specs in sig :(
