Natural Selection 2

So glad to see this where it is now. I started playing back in 2002 when the original was released and was involved heavily in my clan at the time (YO | in case anybody knows them :p). As the game is now I'm ecstatic to see it be such a work of art and gameplay that I hoped. Still not totally sure on the changes to the Alien Commander but I'm sure I'll come round

I really need to watch the videos as I don't have a clue how any of the commander roles work! So I just go out and shoot.

One gripe I have is about the map, it needs to twist with respect to the direction you are turning in, rather than just twisting the arrow that marks your location. I find it totally counter-intuitive, that is, until I have properly learnt all the maps and locations.

:D

Not as big as some, so to speak. I kind of miss my old eyefinity setup at times...though this monitor has far nicer field of view and colour clarity compared to my old TN panels.

Are there any optimisation guides around btw? I ideally don't want to drop everything to low but there are definitely times in firefights where I'm tempted to at the moment :s

In addition to this, has anybody else had funny ping related issues? My ping was hovering at like 200-300 the other night which was quite odd.

From what I've read it seems that the game is incredibly CPU dependant and the GPU doesn't matter too much after a certain point.

Kind of strange that I'm having such issues on my SB 2500k @ 4.6ghz :s Though I also read that the server being overloaded can cause client slowdown as it struggles to predict more of the action (not sure how true that is - sort of makes sense to me but I'm not completely convinced of how legitimate the technical conjecture was).

Physichull, have you had the problems with ping since? I'm wondering if it was just a weird routing issue with your ISP and the location of the server rather than anything more long-term.

I'm not sure what my CPU usage is but just about every map pushes my GPU to 99%, its not to bad, i get mini sutters every now and then but its smooth most of the time, the worst map for my fps though is that mineshaft one, I had 2 exos on screen and a marine or two firing and my dps drops to like 25 or so.

And I was just on an EU server and my ping was spiking to 100 every now and then while everyone elses was below it, its the first time I've seen it happen

Yo's server was great, spent ages on there ([TNR]Ghost) it's amazing to see how far they've come with such a small overall team.

Gave this a go at the weekend and enjoyed it. Watched a couple of videos first then got stuck in. I get the feeling I haven't scraped the surface yet on half the things going on :p

You were an excellent commander in NS1.
I remember a game with you on Tanith and (not unusually) you were quite 'intoxicated' shall we say. None the less it was one of the best games I'd played, the aliens were really excellent and the whole thing was back-and-forth for about an hour and a half before we won.

It's really cool how so much of the previous community is still around.

I've been commanding as alien a fair bit for the past few days. I'm still very much not pro compared to any of the NS1 veterans but I feel that I'm really getting the hang of the basics - building stuff in the right order, communicating with the team on where to push, where to scout and what I can see going on on the map. It's really satisfying but also stressful - much like Savage was.

I've tried joining in with other players in the OcUK NS2 group, but every time I click join on an ingame member from the members list, it just shows as server not responding.

Indeed, was a member for about 5 years or so. left when I moved and had other commitments. Seen a few like Buggy, Tef42 and Obraxis around. Even MissScarlett and HungryHippo. Doubt people remember me, but I still have a legacy left over there when I created "Regs night" - no idea if its still going or not though

Well it's gone past 4:30 am and i have been playing on this game all night.

This is my Favorite game at the moment. I was a NS1 player and I think this game has done it justice.

I need a better PC really, this stretches my GPU.
