It's the opinion of our current foreign secretary that matters, that's why we elect new governments. However, by "usual crew" I was referring to our forum members. (As an aside capitalisation of Foreign is wrong but somewhat unsurprising from your good self) ;)

are you perhaps inferring that she was doing this at the behest of the UK government, so in fact they have to distance themselves for the sake of plausible deniability and Boris let the cat out of the bag accidentally when he said she was training journo's ?

If she was running a black op to help destabilize the country / cause sedition under orders from a foreign power, that is effectively going to get her more than a long stint in jail, that carries the death penalty in Iran.

Who says blackmail doesn't work eh.

Iran should be labelled as a terrorist state, and all western governments should warn any of their citizens who also hold Iranian citizenship to not visit Iran under any circumstances.

Iran is already designated as being a rogue state, hence all the sanctions.

Current government travel advice:

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) advise British-Iranian dual nationals against all travel to Iran.
The FCDO advise all British nationals against all travel to:
  • within 100km of the entire Iran/Afghanistan border
  • within 10km of the entire Iran/Iraq border
  • the province of Sistan-Baluchistan
  • the area east of the line running from Bam to Jask, including Bam
The FCDO advise against all but essential travel to the rest of Iran

North Korea is probably safer and less chance of them trying to black mail your government for money
 
Great news she’s coming home. I’d be interested to know what went on in the negotiations though. It seems to oddly coincide with the Ukraine situation.

Well, she's not on the plane yet...
I will assume if they let her on the plane we have become best friends with Iran again (they have oil...) and we've paid the 400 million we owe them...
 
Iran needs to sell its oil and coincidentally the west would like to buy some now they're only in 2nd place of the enemies list.

Excellent news for her and her family. I'm hoping HMG can stash them somewhere private to recover before the media get all up in her face.

Similar thoughts tbh. Lots of "oh dear, what a shame" going on then bingo! Here's that £400m we owe you, can we have our citizen back please (and some oil?)

NK has the duality of death camps for political prisoners and a tourist industry, walking the tight rope between the two is not my idea of a holiday but each to their own. Iran is probably worse because they just want to rely on oil which they dont even produce efficently at the expense of all people their own and any vistors. If oil wasnt so high they would not be so capable of selling at profit, they might avoid any violence until the price drops again

Finally but it is funny "we" decide the debt is valid only when we need oil. Of course that idiot Johnson didn't help matters in 2017 when he said she was "simply teaching people journalism".
