Went for a different one in the end due to some dodgyness with the other I spotted. However today, drove her home :)

Nah it is quite simply like driving on rails and at constantly insane speeds, the only downside I found was I felt quite removed from the road, you are well aware there are 58 computers constantly saving your life :p

still epic though

Agree with the rails comment... been around a corner earlier in it which in the old zed would have been 50-55 max... in this went around it at *ahem* 70 *ahem* and was like nothing was even happening.

Hey!

So plans for this year:

Interior overhaul:
  • Front and rear dashcams - Hidden main units with remote lenses - All cables hidden
  • Soundproofing/deadening much (most) of the interior
  • Upgrade sound system - Rip the entire bose system out and replace it with Audison and Hertz gear
  • Take apart all trim, pad and re-affix to remove all the little interior rattles.
Paint/Bodywork:
  • 3 Stage paint correction to bring the car back to new and sort all the little niggles
  • Ceramic coating
  • Alloys refurbed and sealed with C5 Wheel Armour
Tyres + Brakes:
  • Replace Pzeros with MPS4-S
  • Upgrade all discs to Alcons
  • All pads to Pagids
POWERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR:
  • Stage 1 Ecutek Tune in Feb ~70 gained HP
  • 102mm Y pipe - Remove 1 set of cats
  • K&N Large cone Air Filters (can do this at stage 2 possibly)
  • Possible but not decided - Suspension kit upgrade to deal with the cars preference to understeer
MORE POWERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR:
  • Stage 2 Ecutek Tune in October ~20 gained HP from stage 1
  • Full 102mm Exhaust
Servicing:
  • Feb and October services
Training:
  • CAT DT Training
Track days/Fun days
  • Whatever we arrange here on ocuk so far :D

A lot of this comes from deciding im going to be keeping this a lot longer than thought (was planning on 2 years, but having had it for a year im not bored of it yet (by now on most other cars I was already looking to sell)). So don't mind putting sensible money into the car as such.

The one I am looking forward to will be the CAT DT training, I know the GTR flatters drivers, and am under no illusion it does for me also, however after speaking to other GTR drivers all have said this course really let them get a feel for just how far the car can be pushed before it bites back, so hopefully will be a worthwhile couple of days.

Anyway today the new front discs and pads arrived and they are monstrous. Obviously you can see them on your car, but when you have them in your hands, you really appreciate the scale and weight of these things.

Strong rug and carpet combo! I wasn't aware the car had a preference to understeer, at least that couldn't be corrected through the software setup and mechanically?

Carpets are were on my list of things to get done this year, but looks like the new discs and pads have put that out the window :D

If I set the VDC to race it gives some more wiggle room, turning it off it can oversteer. However it has been said that getting some uprated ARBs on the earlier models like mine actually sorts it out quite well without the huge cost of the suspension upgrades, so may give that a go first.

Shes a heavy lump, so she likes to go slow in and very fast out, however I have some very nice long tight corners near me, so would like to go into them with a bit more confidence and think if I can get the car closer to neutral it would make a world of difference.

Stage 2? Don't bother, just go to 4 with downpipes! I loved mine with 660hp/625lbft, a stock one feels sluggish after driving that! :D

CATDT are good but I much preferred going out on track. Interesting to see how the GTR feels and moves at speed in a safe environment though.

I want to enjoy the extra power progressively :) Sure jumping to 4.25 can be done but then the next step up is more expensive than going through 1-4.25 in steps.

Fantastic car and great choice of colour:) If you dont mind me asking, what have running costs been like in your first year of ownership? I was very tempted to get one a couple of years ago, but heard a few horror stories relating to parts / servicing. Decided a 370z Nismo was a wiser choice, but not sure now.

Honestly not bad, October was a big service, came to ~£1400 but that included an optional preventative upgrade which added £240 to the bill or so.

The next service is circa ~£200 but again its going to be ~£1400 all in (when you add in the cost of the discs and pads).

£60 - £120 per week of fuel, but it is my daily driver and I drive it like I stole it. From 10 miles remaining shown to full is ~£66

Both the big expenses could probably have avoided if I'd been a bit more savvy when buying.

But based on these, and the experiences of other owners, I think if you can put aside £200 a month for servicing and maintenance, that will cover most things short of a major unexpected issue. Then you just need to fill it with fuel and keep your tyres in good nick.

Strange turn of events. Something was niggling at me so I called my local tyre place and got a quote.

They could do them for £200 a corner, bargain!

So its coming up to the first year of ownership, so thought I would share the breakdown of the main costs.

  • Servicing October: £845.44
  • Servicing Feb: £172.66
  • Piston clip upgrade + mag kit upgrade: £299.47
  • Tyres (2 rears and a set of 4): £1212.98
  • New Brakes and Discs: £1149.00
  • Petrol (approx £50 a week when evened out over winter): £2600
  • Insurance: £855.02
  • Tax: £540.75

Total: £7,675.32
Monthly: £639.61
Weekly: £159.90

Excluding Petrol as YMMV

Total: £5075.32
Monthly: £422.94
Weekly: £105.73

Which, given some big things there, I would imagine next year to be something like this:

  • Servicing October: £250.66
  • Servicing Feb: £172.66
[*]Piston clip upgrade + mag kit upgrade: £299.47
    [*]Tyres (2 rears and a set of 4): £1212.98
    [*]New Brakes and Discs: £1149.00
  • Petrol (approx £50 a week when evened out over winter): £2600
    [*]Insurance: £855.02
  • Insurance: £650.00
  • Tax: £540.75

Total: £4,214.07
Monthly: £351.17
Weekly: £87.79

Excluding Petrol as YMMV

Total: £1614.07
Monthly: £134.50
Weekly: £33.62

Right! New tyres done!

Thoughts? Well I gave them 10 miles or so scrub the worst of the release agents off before getting a bit frisky for 20 more miles. This was coming off my pzeros with 1.8mm of tread left all around.

So far, incredibly impressed. A definite improvement in all aspects, grip is incredible, theres a bit of road/hill I could easily turn into and spin the tyres up on pzeros when flooring it, when I did this with the MPS4S they hooked up instantly and launched me up the road!

Cornering and feedback is exactly as expected, though until they are scrubbed in for 100 or so miles I won't be pushing my luck there.

Slightly, but only marginally, noisier then the pzeros.

Cost for all 4, £816 fitted.

Not just tread but also effect of fresh rubber. As tyres age the rubber becomes less soft/grippy.

But thats not taking away from how amazing MPSS are, I change out my Pzero with 3-4mm on rear and 5-6mm on front, the difference it made was incredible, particular in cold/wet conditions moving to MPSS.

I am hoping to make the same purchase this week as 295/35/20 PS4s just came into stock at Blackcircles, so am gonna go with 285/35/20 in the front and a 295/35/20 in the back. :)

Do you want me to get you a quote from my guy Gibbo? He was 250quid cheaper than blackcircles.
