At least Pedestrian was 5 star, I guess all those Mustang's being crashed into crowds moved Ford's focus on making sure their would be no deaths at future Mustang meets when the inevitable happens and a Mustang takes out a crowd.![]()
I think a star rating is likely to be more understandable to a shopper comparing say a new Astra with a new Focus than a long list of technical data.
After ever driving an M5 and Corvette which had HUD's I always wanted one, never liked the HUD's on sale they are bulky and display way to much information.
Still for £20 I took a gamble and got an X5 HUD from Ebay:
It did come with film for the windscreen to make the image clearer, but it actually made it to bold/sharp, so was more a distraction. A HUD should be like a ghost image so it does not distract you but is just their for glancing upon without realising.
Its not required, its more a toy, I taped over all the un-necessary stuff like voltage, water temp and other useless stuff to just leave me with RPM and speed. It is accurate too, matching speedo and RPM, but you can adjust it if there is not a match.
There are no wires on display, just a small 3" slim black box which I do not see when driving and is quite discreet in the windscreen.
Its a toy and at £20 is just a fun item, might get one for the M3 too. Also the pad works very well, I cut it too same size as the unit and even throwing car around nothing moves.![]()
I also learned the Euro NCAP is also changing goal post every year. So a car that got 5 stars 4 years ago, if it was re-tested today it would score far less.
As such to me that makes the test completely null and void, if they change goal post, then all cars should be re-evaluated every year and their rating updated.
Still its a mute point, whether its 2 star or not, its far safer car than my previous cars for me to be in, people are losing their minds over it, but its a 2+2 sports/GT car. I buy a car never with safety in mind, if tomorrow I want a Lotus, Caterham, old Porsche I'd just buy it, they are probably 0 star, but it does not take away from their greatness.
Analysis of the dummy data showed that the driver's head had 'bottomed out' the airbag i.e. there was insufficient pressure in the airbag to prevent the head from contacting the steering wheel through the deflated airbagmaterial. The head of the passenger dummy also bottomed out the airbag against the dashboard, owing to insufficient inflation of the airbag and inadequate restraint for larger statures by the front passenger seatbelt load-limiter.
Hi Gibbo, how are you getting on with your X5 Hud? How did you hide/secure the wire? Thanks
And any of this helps how when Your head smacks against the steering wheel because the airbag doesn't inflate correctly ?

stop apologizing. This isn't euro NCAP moving the goal posts. This is just ford cutting corners.
Am sure I will be fine, end of the day I sit far back from the wheel, in the test dummies are very close to the wheel as that is how test is conducted. End of the day if I crash and die, I died happy in a car I love driving, my other car has no air bags to put things into perspective.![]()
invaluable then. The angle I sit at, I cant see all the speeds anyway and worst is I cant see immediately if my main beams are on or notinstead of glancing down at instruments
I prefer the black over the red there and the profile reminds me of an Aston Vantage, no idea if thats actually the case in reality as I dont see many of either car. Seen just 1 of these new Mustangs maybe
[Actually my old Honda was graphite grey, a surprisingly good colourand the colour looks a bit like that ]
invaluable then. The angle I sit at, I cant see all the speeds anyway and worst is I cant see immediately if my main beams are on or notI know the speed at top revs in each gear, thats enough

The new wheels look great in those pics now, especially from a distance.
