NEARLY 2 YEARS WAITING: New Mustang GT PP is finally mine!

What about smoked rear lights? They usually look awful, but I think it would work rather well on the EU Mustang rear lights.

I've seen smoked and though they look OK, its definetely not a factory option, so its a big no, red and clear are factory, if I do it, red is the only option.

I don't quite understand. You don't want to smoke the rear lights because its not a factory option, but you are perfectly OK with the 1000 other things you've done which weren't factory options? :p

Most of the stuff I've done was an option in the USA, decklid, badges, wings etc. they are all Ford parts.

OK some stuff is not, but I am just not hearing tinted rear lights and I prefer clear over tinted, it is only the option of being red that equals clear for me.

To be honest I just went outside and looked at the rear calipers they look great but up close my OCD kicks in as can see brush and run marks on them, easy to tell up close a DIY job, so I can see if plan B fails I'll probably just pull them off and get them professionally powder coated.

Or you could paint them properly ;) :p

I sprayed them, came out nice. But the aerosol I got was not Porsche Acid green, was more a mustard, though it said porsche acid green on label. So I used the tin of paint I had that is a match, problem is had to brush it on and brush it on thick. I suck at painting, anyway for now they will do, I've got covers coming shall see how they look and most people will say no not covers. I'd agree covers generally look terrible but that is because people buy covers to pretend they have big brake kits. The covers I have incoming are not trying to be something they are not, it is literally just a cover that is identical in shape and size to rear caliper. I've designed them myself so no fake bolt holes, no fake logos. Just done them acid green with a plain Ford logo, gonna see how those look, if they look naf, then plan c, off to the powder coaters we go. :D

Red rear lights and a dechrome would be a huge improvement IMO. I hate the 'clear' rear light lens on almost everything that can have them as an option (some Astons, Porsche 991, and the Mustang, all can have clear rear lights or red, and the red always looks far better than me).

Hi there

Well Ford have gone official today, new MY18 will feature 460HP and 420lb/ft standard, they are also saying the current power packs will carry over, so hopefully my PP3 will be a straight swap fingers crossed so should see me around 560HP. But Ford are saying the extra performance truly comes from the 10-speed automatic which shift supposedly shifts faster than M-DCT and PDK Sport plus and does some torque trickery to keep the torque levels up in drag mode. As such in drag mode on the cars factory PS4S (yes new one gets PS4S) and magneride the V8 0-60 drops from 4.8s to under 4s and the Ecoboost which remains at same power, but the 0-60 drops from 5.9s down to sub 5s due to the 10-speed being so much quicker than outgoing automatic and manual.

Ford have not announced the 1/4 mile times yet but the 10 speed is rumoured to be able to hit high 11's out the box.

Seems like Ford performance and handling wise have this new Mustang truly performing exceptionally well:

  • 2018 Mustang GT in Drag Strip mode can reach 60 mph in under four seconds – faster than a Porsche 911 and setting a new standard as the fastest Mustang GT ever
  • Redesigned 5.0-liter V8 with all-new available 10-speed SelectShift® automatic sees power increased to 460 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque
  • Drag Strip mode optimizes torque, transmission and newly available custom-designed Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires to deliver maximum acceleration and performance in straight-line driving

DEARBORN, Mich., July 24, 2017 – Ford’s most advanced and powerful Mustang GT is also the fastest ever, achieving 0-to-60-mph in less than four seconds in Drag Strip mode.

The new Mustang is also faster than a $94,000 Porsche 911 Carrera, which Carl Widmann, Mustang chief engineer, attributes to five factors:
  • Improved horsepower and torque output of the redesigned 5.0-liter V8
  • Maximum acceleration of available Drag Strip mode
  • Quicker, smoother shifting of the available 10-speed SelectShift® transmission
  • Optimized traction courtesy of the available custom-designed Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires on new Performance Pack
  • “Typically, when you shift gears, you give up time,” said Widmann. “In Drag Strip mode, the engine torque doesn’t drop when you’re shifting. You get peak engine torque and horsepower straight through thanks to our new Ford-built 10-speed transmission.”

The car’s 5.0-liter V8 now features dual-fuel, high-pressure direct injection and low-pressure port fuel injection technology for increased power and efficiency. The engine’s 460 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque represent improvements over the current model’s 435 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. The result is an engine that delivers robust low-end torque, high-rpm power and improved fuel efficiency.

Drivers of EcoBoost®-equipped Mustang also will feel increased power on the strip. The retuned EcoBoost four-cylinder generates 310 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque – a 30 lb.-ft. gain over the current model. In Drag Strip mode with Performance Package and the 10-speed automatic, the 2018 EcoBoost-powered Mustang posts an impressive 0-to-60-mph time of under five seconds.

Drag Strip mode – one of five driver-selectable modes available for 2018 – has been designed to provide maximum acceleration and performance for straight-line driving. Drag Strip mode is primarily controlled by the transmission and delivers a significant acceleration boost, eliminating the lost time usually associated with automatic shifting.

The new 10-speed transmission, with a wide-ratio span and optimized gear spacing, helps deliver higher average power for acceleration – resulting in improved responsiveness and performance. The 10-speed architecture features Ford-patented power-flow and Ford-patented direct-acting hydraulic controls. It’s designed for optimum ratio progression and efficiency, and provides more accurate, quicker upshift and downshift capability.

In addition, an all-new electronic control system features real-time adaptive shift-scheduling algorithms engineered to help ensure the right gear is engaged at the right time, including skip-shift and direct downshift capability.

Compared to the outgoing six-speed, the new 10-speed automatic has quicker shift times and better low-speed tip-in response. It’s uniquely tuned for all five drive modes – normal, sport, track, Drag Strip and snow/wet. Steering wheel-mounted shift paddles allow drivers maximum manual control.

“Gearing matters, and in Drag Strip mode, this car launches better than ever off the line,” said Widmann.

Fans will be able to build and price their very own 2018 Mustang from July 25 by visiting www.ford.com/mustang/2018. New Mustang is due to reach showrooms this fall.

Needless to say think I shall be chopping in, not gonna be ordering straight away though as in no particular rush and would rather wait until I've driven one and seen all the colours in the flesh. But right now Orange Fury, Lightning Blue or another Magnetic are firm favourites. Of course I will be going for 10-speed if it drives truly as well as owners of Raptor and Camaro are saying, something I do not doubt considering how many years Ford/GM took developing it together.

For me the new version is everything I made my current one and a touch more with nice touches like magneride, 10-speed, digital dash and the cool 5 drive select modes. Plus the stuff like my brakes, wheels, PP3, Shelby wheel will all be moved over to next one, the only thing I am not 100% sure on with MY18 is the front-end but if it is a droopy down syndrome thing in the flesh I shall just get a 350 front-end kit or see what other options come which many shall.

But when are the RHD available ??????

You can probably order one Autumn/Winter and delivery 9-12 months later.

Just hope the UK gets the nice options default or at least ability to option them unlike the current UK car which has limited options.

Fingers crossed.

From what I hear, build is due to start in October with first UK units arriving around April.... The lead time for Mustang has significantly reduced since the initial Worldwide launch of the outgoing models... Current order to delivery times are 7 months...

Pretty good, I will probably wait until I can test drive and see all colours in flesh. Plus gives the tuners plenty of time to figure them out, as I will want to get it tweaked to around 550-600NA.

Value wise best idea would be to sell mine now, but don't want to part with a car I enjoy so will keep it for another year, then sell it, will take more of a bath deprecation wise but not really that fussed because I enjoy driving it.

I would also think most likely UK model will include, the PP, Magneride, active exhaust, and digital dash as standard on UK models I think, hence the close to £45k price i quoted, but possibly around £43k - £44k is more realistic.

I think the only UK options will be same or very similar to now, with just, a choice of gearbox, body colour, interior trim colour, sound system, climate control, or custom pack etc.

Had a small play but unhappy in that cannot have a black painted roof and black accent package on a Royal Crimson but also have a rear spoiler.

Selecting the spoiler auto deletes the roof and accent package which seems odd. :(

Car looked great on Monday around Curborough, looks much better now you have matched the rear calipers to the fronts. Sounds epic!

Everytime I see this in person in makes me want one even more, very tempted after the wedding, I think some test drives are in order next summer.

Thank you buddy, your photography and videos are epic. You saved me a job posting these in here, as I said in that thread I am surprised how good it looks on video I thought I was driving the car pretty sedately around track as was aiming to be smooth and well being lazy and not using the gears (getting old, hence next one being auto), but even still keeping it smooth and within its limits it looks fast, flat and composed. could have definetely pushed harder and gone faster but that track takes no prisoners so not taking any risk, particular under braking as I've got pads fitted not recommended for track action (low dust). ;)

Base prices are $2000 more.

Go and play as you can now configure 2018 car in US and order:

Still unknown what base spec UK shall be and what kind of options we will get, I have my fingers crossed for:
- 10-speed
- Performance Package
- Magneride
- Active exhaust
- Digital dash

Would you bother with the active exhaust though? You're likely to just replace it with something like the Corsa and better headers. May as well save the money on the initial purchase :p

Everything else though, yus! (I quite like the Orange fury + Black combo, looks mean)

Are we likely to have the US DRLs? They're so much better. I believe the US fogs are LED standard too. No biggy if not, easy mods.

I'd rather get active, I hear its pretty damn loud stock with that option. If its not enough I am sure after market systems will come that retain the toggle switch feature, its nice to have the option inside the car to be quiet or loud. Plus with headers even the stock system would be very LOUD!
Orange Fury is still my favourite, I'd probably fit my black 350 track spoiler and remove the stock Ford one and then put a 350 front-end on the car, so in essence it would become a full blown 350 replica on looks department, would just be missing the FPC.

Yes this time exports do supposedly get the front DRL's and LED fogs. :)
Rears are still clear and not sequential though.
