NEARLY 2 YEARS WAITING: New Mustang GT PP is finally mine!

the car reminds me of an Aston Martin, its the Chrome trim around the windows...

it's toned down, disguised, it isn't a ``Street Sleeper`` it cant be, but it has that same look that tells you ``watch out, it might be very fast``

Gibbo has definitely got the styling right

Any luck with Clutch spring ??

*cough*

Have you made any enquiries about getting a less taught clutch spring made yet Gibbo?

Took car to garage to check play in top of pedal, is not causing any issue with clutch or release bearing, they confirmed all fine. Shall go spring hunting yes, ideally want to try something like 40-60lb spring as that should not reduce feel or weighting much but bring pedal back to the top, stock spring is 150-190lb so strong and no wonder it makes pedal so light and clutch completely lifeless for feel. One of the best modifications I made and it was free. :)

:p

Welllll, I've got an appointment booked in to test drive the GT this Saturday. I can't go for the 350 simply because of the lack of rear seats :(

I know the GT has enough room for 2 garden gnomes in the back but I need them from time to time.

Anyway, excited! Been told it's a 8 month waiting list now, not 12. Which is nice.

The 350 has rear seats, so if your in US you should get that. :)

If your in UK then the 350 is not available here! :(

Oh yea! I was looking at the US site haha. Urgh, work proxies.

Oh well, makes my choice even easier then. GT it is! My main worries are sloppy and soggy steering/feedback, being so big and hoping it won't wallow round bends. And also build quality. I'm going in with the mind set it will be the same build quality as a beemer but I just know it's going to be cheap plastic galore with the pricing they have.

So, the driving experience HAS to convince me to move from BMW.

The interior and build quality is not upto BMW/Audi standards. The interior is nice, it is better than Fords other models and similar to VW/Skoda, there is far worse out there. Build quality the issues are panel allignment, of course all easily fixable, but Ford should just get it right themselves. For the money though it is good and the level of toys for the money is good!

Steering feel is vague but no worse than a Mercedes or BMW electric steering, but its not as good as Porsche, Aston's, Jaguars, electric PS systems. I find if you put it in comfort or normal there is some feel and if you put it in sport it weights up a lot which reduces some of the feel. Overall the steering is not so bad, I've made a modification today which might help steering feel, but what I do find the car has serious front-end grip, where both the 911 and M3 would understeer the Mustang just turns in, infact it turns in remarkably well for its size, if you get agressive it does roll a little.

The clutch is woeful, but easily fixed for nothing, engine and gearbox are amazing, the handling is fine its just not as a dynamic as an M car or as agile, it is more on par with a BMW 3/5 series with M sport suspension out the box with the advantage of more grip and a differential and a massive middle finger to the EU with that lovely big V8 upfront. Thankfully most of the short falls of this car can be easily fixed and for not much money.

A recent group test that featured the Mustang, Lexus RCF and BMW M4, placed the Mustang 2nd place ahead of the M4 which lost out due to its engine, quite a win considering the Mustang cost around £25,000 less.

Wow! Thanks chap, really helpful feed back and honest! The little niggles you've had all seem to be sorted by a few tweaks which is fine with me.

In terms of extras, I won't really want much. I'll certainly report back on my drive after Saturday and hopefully, be in love.

I've been a Mustang fan all my life but never had the balls to get one. Now is my chance!

Oh, as for build quality, I think I can look past a drop in quality for now. As this will be my last hoorah for fun cars as I'm aiming for kids in a few years. So back to the BMW Touring after owning one of these beasts!

Just a couple of things, throttle is very laggy in default normal mode, when you get in toggle the mode switch to at least Sport+ and Race if the salesman lets you, makes throttle much sharper by the way. If the demo car has less than 200 miles on it and its cold outside like under 10c expect very little grip, the Pzero stock tyres are woeful until a couple hundred miles is on them and if temp is low grip is low, if wet none existent.

Have a play with radio, set balance to slightly to rear, improves sound staging a lot, otherwise it is overpowering in front and sounds like car only has front speakers, whereas in reality its got 9 speakers and sub in boot. Also check out the AC seats, I thought gimmick but after a couple of minutes they work quite well, be good for that one hot summer week we get. ;)

Awesome! Thanks!

Good tip on the cold tyres, As it's not a particularly long test drive I'd like to give it a little hoon.

I've been using a 330D auto box for a while, bit used to sluggish responses but I'll sneakily put it into sport+ or race :P

Hi there

Decided to make use of my light tinting kit, quality is great and they are gloss vinyl so look good on the car, but I've decided to only tint the rear fog light as I dislike how it looks out of place and tint the rear amber side reflectors just so they blend more with the car and don't stand out like a sore thumb.

AFTER!

The rear blends a lot better now and looks a little more aggressive, the reflectors still work as reflectors and the fog light and reverse lights still function and are easily visible so no issues when it comes MOT time. :)

I also fitted a handling modification, seems the UK cars are made a little different the front holes are not threaded and the rear holes still have the metal in them from when the holes were stamped in the subframe so you need to snap them out before you can get the washers in place, so what should be easy is a little more difficult on UK cars but Steeda provides the extra washers in the kit so are obviously aware of the issues the EU/UK cars have.

This part protrudes by nearly an inch under the car so once lowered it might become an issue if it starts catching speed bumps but time will tell, if it becomes an issue then BMR are working on a design that protrudes less.

Only driven the car 5 miles since fitting, so to early to tell, will report back later after a drive if any noticeable changes, but no clunks, rattles or knocks so far. :)

That's good, that time frame matches with what I was told. I still haven't heard back with regards to my test drive, I've had flu so I haven't chased them.

When I sat in one last week the leg room in the back was non existent, luckily for me I'm the only person who ever gets in my car.

Gibbo now it looks better than red lights option to me love it :D

IF it goes for handling mod its only thing that stops me from getting H brace bet i would rip it off on speed bumps :/

Just been back to Ford and they lost my details :(

On the plus side someone cancelled their order, so they have a 5.0, manual in guard due in March

I know quite a few cars available at RRP from Ford for delivery March and there were a couple used cars at RRP available right now, but I know one has gone, but think one might still be available.

Went to Ford earlier, the whole company came out to listen to the car. :D

Booked in at bodyshop, to fit decals and to fix a chip in the paint which I seemed to get on rear quarter somehow, but they agreed to fix for free and give me the F5 card for free. The decals they want £50 to fit which I think is fair as I am not risking doing it myself, they will not end up straight lol.

So far service at my dealership has being great, as I was there a customer was taking delivery of a race red V8, my first other sighting in the UK, except for my own of course. They also have another car coming and the customer has ordered the GT500 Whipple kit and they are fitting for him, 750BHP.

I know of three UK owners now supercharging vehicles within a month of ownership, two are Whipple 750 kits and one is the Roush 727 kit. :)

tbh there's several colours I'd happily have, I'm just hoping it has all the added extras or I guess I'm going to have to wait.

What's the servicing like on them, it's one question Ford has yet to answer for me ?

10,000/1yr oil service. Cost suspect will be £300, I shall get my local garage to do it for £100 and stamp my book.

I am changing the oil in mine at 1200 miles, Ford state no running in service required but I am doing one and at this point I shall also change from the cheapo motorcraft 5W-20 semi-synth to a fully synthetic 5W-30 either from Mobil 1 or Castrol or might source some Amsoil. :)

Not Shell Helix Ultra Professional AF 5W30? :)

No, Mobil and Castrol have met way more standards and from what Simon has said before on these forums, to meet such standards does mean the oil has to meet quite high specifications. So I pretty much just want to put the best quality oil that I can get in the UK into the car. Mobil 1 and Castrol have kept my BMW and Porsche in great shape.

Simple fact is anything is better than the crud Ford throw in.

Hi there

Here is the exact reason I shall go Whipple when I go FI in around a years time:

Whipple Superchargers, in its continued strive to bring the customer the most advanced, most powerful supercharger system for today's S550 is proud to announce the new MyWhipple calibration suite featuring the revolutionary new Flight Control technology.

Available early February, 2016, the new MyWhipple calibration suite allows the end user or the installer the ability to custom configure there supercharger system. With the new Flare software and latest calibration, customers can adjust the power output in each gear or globally. Afraid to give the car to the dealership? Maybe poor weather and you still want to drive your 800+HP Whipple Charged Mustang? Simply load your calibration, turn the key on and slide the Flight Control dials where you want it, wait 2 seconds and it's nowbit's utilizing it's virtue pulley software that mimics different pulley combinations.

Using unique, advanced proprietary software, Whipple is able to detect the gear position in both auto and manual transmissions giving us the unique ability to control torque output. This gives every customer the capacity to have full control over their power output whether it's per gear or overall.

Not to be done, the Whipple Guardian is an industry first. New to the Whipple calibration is pre-built in added safety measures over all the current safety parameters. The new guardian system uses new software technology to further increase the safety standards others simply don't have capacity to offer.

Knock Limit. This feature is defaulted on and works off the factory knock sensors. It constantly monitors knock events, in cases where you have poor gas or another issue and the knock sensor activity becomes too active, the knock limit reduces power output (cylinder pressure) until the knock activity has reduced.

Small Pulley Detect. This feature consistently monitors airflow vs its torque output and consistently adapts to the environment. When a customer changes the pulley, the PCM recognizes the changes and adapts its settings to the pulley so the max power is maintained along with all the other safety functions.

CHT Limiting. The CHT limit is based on the cylinder head temp. After extensive testing using the advanced 3D based calibration, a peak power calibration was made for all different types of scenarios. The S550 uses CHT to modify the power output as temp increases, power levels decrease.

Octane Adjust. The Whipple octane adjust feature allows the customer to modify his power output or spark advance based off octane. The intelligent knock detection and strategy constantly adapts, the Octane adjust lowers the nominal spark for applications with low octane or just wanting the added safety.

RPM Limit. Whipple has durability tested at the increased RPM ranges with the 5.0L Coyote engine and it has proven safe at the extra RPM, but in applications where some want to keep lower RPM limits, a simple toggle on the icon and you can have a more conservative max RPM.

Axle/Wheel Configuration. Only Whipple Superchargers gives you the ability to modify your axle/wheel size with its flash tool allowing your speedometer and shift points to be correct no matter what your combination is.

Add the new electronic features to the already most powerful 50-state emissions legal system and you have the most advanced system available for the S550. No other system compares to the amount of engineering, exclusive industry leading features and wheel shredding performance.
