NEARLY 2 YEARS WAITING: New Mustang GT PP is finally mine!

HI there

OK so this is essentially the final round of modifications, of course knowing me I will do other bits and bobs during my next six months ownership but I cannot resist and until the new one arrives this is still the baby.

So after several recommendations from other Mustang owners I paid a visit today at Evolve Automotive in Derby, I've being discussing my requirements with Richard on Facebook previous, so today I arrived at 10am as agreed and met with Richard letting him and his colleague to get on with my car.

In short I booked the car for the following:
- Hexis gloss black roof
- Hexis gloss red tint for rear lights
- Hexis satin black window trim (de-chrome)
- Best colour match to brakes to turn red dots to green
- They quoted 3.5hrs work with it costing upto £350

I've always generally being happy with the clear rears, chrome trim, but the moment I went dark wheels, black mirrors, it kind of started to look a bit odd.

Anyway below is before and after photos:

Chrome trim turning to satin black

We were both pretty gobsmacked at this, the transformation was nothing short of superb, it took them 20-30 minutes to do both sides.

The red dots of hell, now the acid green dots, OH LOOK AT DEM SOCKS!

Its a very subtle modification, one generally not spotted until pointed out but to me it makes sense and ties it in with the brakes, the car will not be getting any more green, subtle and it really works so well with the magnetic. Not just those fancy Porsche's that can get away with a big of luminous green. :D :D :D

Time taken, 10 minutes!

Clear lights, finally become red tinted

I absolutely love the outcome, they have no output on the light output at all, even to the point that amber still shows amber at the end, so still legal for the do gooders out there with nothing better to do on their hands. The quality of the workmanship is simply superb, the cut lines are smooth and precise and not as matt as many of the kits out there.

Time to complete 40 minutes and they will offer this to other Mustangs for £80 done as the reaction to me putting this on Instagram and Facebook was big with people wanting to ditch their current tints to have these done simply due to the better quality fitment and the fact they have no impact on the light output meaning people can see you indicating, braking etc.

Hexis gloss black roof wrap!

The orange peel you see will fade once the car has being in direct sunlight for a couple of days and had a polish/wash. Other Mustang owners had the same result, but a few days later it turned like glass, which will make me glad when it does as the paint on my car is superb, so don't want an orange peel style roof.

This is 50/50 for me, when the car is polished, sun out, the sparkle/glitter in the paint is amazing at this point it becomes 50/50.

All other times I prefer the black roof, it ties in the black accents on the car so well, I feel the car has now really come together and visually that it the car is finished.

I also firmly believe come selling time, my car will move easily being one of the very popular colours but an easy colour as not in your face and the styling, lowering, stance, bodykit will simply make it more appealing, it certainly stands out.

The roof took around 30 minutes and they charge £120-£140 depending on model year. You can see the cut line is perfectly straight and smooth, no zaggies! Again fantastic quality work!

I am absolutely over the moon and because they had it completed in roughly two hours they charged me £310 for the job which I think is a relative bargain, yes am sure there are cheaper places but I wanted quality materials with lifetime warranty and the job done right.

Many hear told me to de-chrome the car and tint the lights in the early days, yet I was stubborn and kept as is, do I regret not doing this sooner? Well maybe but hey it means I just get to enjoy the car even more.

Shall have to see if cars behind and joe public on the street are still pulling out their cameras as often and taking photos and videos, which really does still happen several times a week. Something I thought by now would no longer happening considering how many are on UK roads, but even in old man magnetic people are always taking photos and asking me questions.

Anyway really happy and can't recommend Evolve Automotive in Derby enough if you need any wrapping or tinting services doing.

Yea, fail to see the point in doing the roof, removing the chrome looks much better.

To tie in the rest of the black accents, adding a lot of black to the car, badge, stripes, wing on top of regular black stuff like decklid and after seeing others in the flesh I wanted it, hence getting it done.

Just lost by the carbon comment, its not carbon and no carbon bits fake or real are going near this car.

If someone makes their bonnet black its usually to get the 'carbon look' without actually buying a carbon bonnet. Same for the roof but to be honest it hardly stands out because the car is so dark anyway.

After all that de-chroming though, those 5.0 badges now really stand out. can you get grey ones?

Get some trainer socks or something too!

I have black 5.0 badges but decided against them, kind of like the chrome badges.

I think its pretty common place now for modern cars to have black roofs from factory, optional or look black if they have optional glass roofs. What is not common is carbon roofs, really just a BMW thing on proper M cars.

Thanks for clothing tips. :)

500HP in a car that can corner and rev, simply amazing, and such a shame we don't get it here, to the point where it puts me off the standard V8 knowing that a better version exists.

To be honest my car is as close as your gonna get to a GT 350 over here, its now on par handling wise, maybe a touch better. Its making almost the same power and if you wanted you can rev it just as high, though I find 7500rpm is more than high enough to be honest in it.

If I wanted to do the final piece of the cake with mine, then fitting of a 350 front bumper really works very well on the GT, see the picture attached. That is the Ikon GT 350 bumper, same material as OEM and cost $725. No need to go hood and fenders, I was pulling the trigger on this bumper but now I am committing to an MY18 it is pointless doing such a modification, maybe the next owner will do it.

Of course your not gonna have what makes the 350 well a 350, which is the FPC, Mag ride. But styling, power, handling and interior can be done to a UK RHD if you really wanted. Only petrol heads would know and when it comes to Mustangs there is no bad, its just a case of is it the V8 ones, oh yes! CAN I HEAR IT! :D

Never buy the EB, woooosh wiiiisshhhhh tashhhhh poooooop!

Lovely photos buddy, thanks for taking those. :)

The yellow belongs to Mike, the owner of Modurstang.

As I was saying yesterday, the beauty of Mustangs is the huge amount of variation, there is not one identical car as every owner modifies them in some way or other, whether it be from a tyre valve cap to a full on wide body car.

Our group also won first prize for the day, of best car stand, but the only Ford there on the day that could one up Mustangs in looks department was the insanely gorgeous Ford GT's, the blue and white one, though the blue was my favourite and photos do the new Ford GT NO justice, in person it is just so jaw droppingly gorgeous and the angles/curves are just WOW. For me its one of the best looking supercars full stop, my only complaint is, well is it a bit snobbish to moan how it has a Ford badge on it. :D

Only had a 35mm on me so didn't manage to get a good rear shot especially with the fence right behind the car.

I didn't bother exhibiting this year and sort of glad I didn't as the FiestaSTOC stand was a bit poor compared to last year. Cars weren't really clean and looked a bit of a shambles. There was a lady going around on your stand that was giving out cards for modurstang?

Probably Mikes wife.
Our stand probably won due to variation, all the S550's were different, quite a few S197's present including Shelby's and some classics too, shame Ford did not bring an MY18 over, would love to have seen one in the flesh, particular in orange fury.

It is a great looking car.

The only extremely minor thing I would say is that the pony on the grill looks a bit lost. Blends too well into it, but then again that could just be the photos!

I like it like that, end of the day you could paint it any colour or even buy a light up one or even a custom one, seen all kinds of Pony's on the front of them, some even remove it completely and put a badge offset to the side of their own choosing like the GT350 has.

That is some impressive numbers, Ford must be loving it!

Love it!! Although if they did one in Lime Green I think I may even jump!! :D

Wouldn't we all. :D

But the orange has really grown on me, when I was out with a few mates, if I proceed with this car in this colour, it has already being named Orange Huey. :D

Ford have released engine details now:
460HP @ 7600rpm
420lb/ft @ 4600rpm

Rev limit is unknown but rumoured to be around 7800-8000rpm, the 3rd generation of the Coyote has made a great engine even better with more power, more response (higher compression), more torque, better fuel economy and even more willing to rev than it was before. Starting to get quite excited about getting in one.

Great numbers!!!

Yeah not bad, Ford finally caught up the EU, remember the BMW S65 was knocking out 400 horses with 8000rpm nearly 10 years ago, though admittedly the Coyote being a 5.0l does a chunk more power and a lot more torque, 420lb/ft VS 295lb/ft, nice to see things going in right direction, question now is how porky will it be, I suspect weight is un-changed to be honest, that can be Fords next job with the S650 model year, get the weight down nearly a 100kg. :)

Of course like this one, it won't be left at those figures for long, though my mod plan is far more simplified this time round, nothing more than a panel filter in the engine bay and remap should see the car making around 510HP / 440lb/ft. Then if I want more shall keep it simply and just fit full length headers to the car which should be good enough for 550+ NA horsepower which combined with that silly fast 10-speed box and drag mode should be nothing short of pretty damn quick. Ford are yet to announce the performance data but rumours of stock car are:

AT / MT

0-60 in 3.9s / 4.5s
0-100 in 7.9s / 9.1s
1/4 in 11.9s@118mph / 13.0s@114mph

The auto is a much quicker car than the manual this time round.

They are on my wish list:

Just listen to that, it sounds better in quiet mode than the MY15 stock exhaust did and in loud mode its lovely, certainly no need for aftermarket exhaust on MY18 if you go active.

Then that digital dash, love it, particular in track mode with the horizontal rev counter, looks epic.

Hope the rumours are true and that those are standard features on RHD export models as they are certainly not on the options list, so fingers crossed they are standard fit.

Hi there

Well I might be saying fairwell to the girl sooner than expected, got the car listed on ebay and its already upto 32k, though I have a reserve set of 35k, but to be frank if it gets close I will let her go and get a winter beater until the next one arrives as the M3 won't be available due to spending a few weeks in body shop getting re-sprayed so I shall need to find something to drive around in.

Or if the car does not sell, plan B, put her back to mostly stock and either trade her in or advertise at the trade in price of 31k, which to be frank at 35k with the modification is quite a steal. :)

get yourself a E60 M5 to tied you over :D

It is indeed a consideration, many tie me over cars have being considered:

- E9x M3 (15k)
- E60 M5 (15k)
- Newer 4.4 M5 (25k)
- B7 RS4 (15k)
- BMW M2 DCT (40k)
- Exige S3 (40k)
- F-type Coupe V6 (40k)
- R35 GTR (40k)

Don't really want to spend more than 40k, needs to be a cash purchase, no finance involved.
M2 is a favourite being new, warranty and all that, but probably really not much different than my E46 to drive, probably slower. Exige was a brief consideration but probably a disastrous car to drive over winter to be frank though they look awesome.

The most sensible seems to be a B7 RS4 as I know they drive supreme on a wet winters B road and you can grab them easily for around 12-15k which is the bottom, so I'd simply find one for 12k and if the market does not change flog it for 12k in a few months or just offer it out at 9.9k to a headline car.

Would love an E60 M5, but I just know I'd get unlucky and everything would break on it and probably end up spending 10k on fixing it, at least the RS4 is pretty solid and from what I can summarise only weakness is the electronic dampers, coking issues and general wear and tear items.

Or I play it safe, buy an M2 hope that six months has little impact on value, but an M2 CS is coming, which knowing my luck would be announced just as I want to shift it and it ends up depreciating like a lead weight, hence RS4 safe buy at under 15k for a winter beater and if I really love it I can simply keep it and park it next to the M3 and still get the MY18 Mustang. Then I have an RS4 as a bad weather car, an M3 for track / weekend toy and the Mustang as the daily hack. :D

if it were me as good as that list is above and pummeling that sort of cash in, i would be buying something with a warranty.

Why M2 is favourite and they seem to sit at around 40k, so its all about pushing for a good deal, seen a few on BMW AUC for 39-41k with DCT, not particular bothered about options, just would have to be in the nice blue, think its long beach and with DCT. I can then prat around in that for 6 months and sell it when Mustang is due and just price it as cheapest M2 in country which in theory would see it gone pretty quick. Sure if I turn up at BMW for a car advertised at 40k and offer them 38k at end of a month they'd be tempted to let a car go, no idea what kind of margin they have but I know dealers tend to operate on 4-8k profit normally on such cars, but could be wrong.

Only other car I've not researched is the 6.3l AMG's, think C63 saloon and coupe, a car I've always liked the idea of having a quick flirt. :)

Get a E92. You won’t lose much and you can scratch that itch. Although I’d want a facelift but don’t know if you get get that in budget ?

They seem to be pretty reliable too.

Can see the RS4 appeal too

An RS4 is sensible as its for Winter and not a car I'd be interested in modding, just service it and tyres if required etc.

I know if I got an E9x because I like them, it would have the exhaust mod done almost immediately and I'd really want a DCT which is a struggle for 15k but not unheard of but plenty of manuals with EDC for under 15k, but I just feel the E9x has to be an M-DCT, its a vastly better car for it, much quicker and those blips on the downshifts are simply epic. I'd just not want to drop much more than 15k on one, 20k max as the more I spend on one now the more its likely to depreciate or maybe not, really not sure how the prices are on these because they can be had as cheap as 12k but there are some at 32k, so risk of buying a nice one is it could take longer to sell on whereas there is always a buyer for a running car in average/good condition at bottom market price.

I am happy to lose a couple of grand, just not more to be honest hence a 12k RS4 is attractive, just sell it end of Feb/March next year for £9995, bound to grab attention if markets cheapest and a good all rounder, once the Mustang is sold could be this month or next, I will start shopping and just sit back for a really good deal on a car, advantage of cash can just sit tight waiting for one of the better deals.

Though driving the Mustang tonight, such a fun thing to drive and feels like a rocket ship, the acceleration feels so brutal in it, do love it for that, always feels proper fast. :)

I am genuinely tempted by this as it's such a steal and could offer my Cayman S if you were interested but then my head gets in the way and says no.

Not sure on a Cayman, dropped you a PM anyway.

I will be brutally honest, I'd far rather someone here gets it (forum member) than some random on ebay, because those of you here know the amount of money spent on the car and what a deal it is.

I'd definitely take a C63 for a spin. The engine is a stonker!

I find Mercedes a mindfield, when it comes to looking for one is it the C63 AMG saloon and coupe that have the 6.3l engine? Anyone know much about them as in are they fragile or are they pretty strong cars that even with say a 100k miles can still be used without worrying about them breaking every 5 minutes? Not an ideal winter car being RWD and huge torque but same time its a smooth auto and Merc's are full of safety systems and to be frank I think I can survive big power RWD anyway throughout the year, but AWD is for sure very nice in poorer weather if you still enjoy going fast.

On a side not just took a friends new BMW 430D X-Drive M Performance out, no idea if the M stuff was stick on buts but it looked the part with its carbon everywhere and being estoril blue stunning car but even more surprisingly quite a rapid bit of kit too, sub 5s to 60mph and ability to well drive it like a Scoob or EVO, just be stupid, auto was great as an auto too, for me the only let down, diesel revs, its just over too quick and no sound, but that aside what a cracking and fast real world road car when driven in just drive in sport+, makes one wonder what the petrol variants are like, must be pretty impressive also. I think the most impressive part is the performance is extracted so easily, torque, AWD, auto its always poised and ready to strike whereas like an M car or an RS4 you gotta work for it and get it up the revs, but working for it is fun. :)
