NEARLY 2 YEARS WAITING: New Mustang GT PP is finally mine!

Probably something to do with Ford quality because you also had that issue with the vertical links a while back: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=29191002&postcount=743

Don’t shoot me! :p

However, there’s been worse issues on new cars. So long as these issues get sorted for future builds. Or could just be bad luck.

Vertical links was the uprated ones, not Ford ones, Ford ones were fine and the manufacturer of the modified ones sent me new bushes free which resolved the issue.

So I cannot blame Ford quality really, I think this is a very rare and unusual incident because not even see any US reports of an oil cooler developing a hole on the Coyote since it was introduced in 2011, I also spoke to Ford USA who also confirmed they have not had a car fail due to this, it seems rare, very rare.

Gonna give Ford UK until end of week to source parts and give me timescales, then if they seem insanely long I shall get part from Ford USA and supply to UK myself to speed up repair, but my view on this situation is this:

Best case scenario:
- Replace oil cooler
- Replace oil filter
- Engine oil change
- Flush coolant system
- New coolant

Worse case scenario due to oil contamination in coolant system:
- Replace oil cooler
- Replace oil filter
- Replace coolant reservoir
- Replace coolant radiator
- Replace coolant engine hoses
- Flush coolant system
- New coolant

I suspect with labour and parts it is £500-£1500 damage from a stupid little hole that if is from a stone managing to get to an impossible place would be unlucky and is more likely my oil cooler was built on a Friday afternoon or was dropped on the floor before being fitted into the car.

As the car was thankfully hardly driven whilst the leak was present contamination should be minimal and a flush will hopefully clear it, but I shall inform Ford of the above and get them to agree to that if they don't do worse case scenario that if I have any future issue with oil in coolant system still being present they agree to replace the other affected parts or flush the system a few more times free of charge.

Lucky that was spotted so quickly really. Let's hope they get the parts in in short order!

Oil cooler is $70 from US including shipping to UK.

UK price is £122 with 4 day leadtime from Germany or Spain.

Ford have called me, they hope to have diagnosis sheet with repair action filled in today, relevant parts order and car repaired by 28th July at latest.

So far so good, keeping me informed, but early days and as of now they are saying warranty will cover it.

P.S. Yes when wheel painters told me I assumed they'd being messing with my car and caused it, but when I went to collect, the parking space I put my car in had a huge oil stain and a trail of oil stains going into their garage, so it clearly happened on the drive from OcUK to the wheel refurbers. So yes if they had not spotted by the time I had smelt oil whilst driving or seen a warning light it could have being too late, there is still 7l of oil in the engine, so zero damage and the level never went below minimum.

Where did you get your BMR CB005 from?
Just been on to the BMR website and it adds on $180 for shipping to the UK, on top of the price increase to $199 it works out cheaper for me to add the steeda brace and bushing kit on to an American Muscle order - if I add the K brace as well, shipping becomes $500 on the BMR website :/

Hi there

Spoke with the service manager this afternoon, he has informed me even though the warranty/diagnosis paperwork is not yet completed due to how they do things and how all warranty work must go by the book. However he has personally ordered the new oil cooler today so that things are not delayed.

He said he is aware if I have the NC500 trip next week and even though it would be very hard he is going to try and pull a rabbit out of hat and have the car repaired and fully working in time for my trip. If this cannot happen they will investigate the possibility of a loan Mustang to do the trip in or that I myself contact Andy Barrett MD of Ford and let him know the problem and he may be able to sort another Mustang loaner for the trip if mine is not repaired in time.

In all fairness the service so far is good, if they can have my car repaired in time I will be surprised, amazed and very thankful. I am just happy that the service manager is taking care of my car and is ensuring and doing everything possible to make sure it is done.

He also said he will try to get oil, filter also included because warranty would normally just cover topping the oil back up and not an actual oil/filter change, but he will try. I said if not possible I am happy to pay for the oil and filter change. He said coolant flush and coolant will be covered by warranty of course.

Fingers crossed but so far so good! :)

BMR, but their website did shipping for FREE, I informed them but because I was honest and let them know, they sorted me out a special rate of like $70 for shipping and I had a load of other kit on same order. :)

looks like ford are going the extra mile..... Cant see a ford mondeo owner getting the same service so thats kinda good.

Gibbo, did you find put what he latest was on the power packs coming to the UK?
I think i could definitely go for a stage 2 while deciding what to do about a supercharger - 40lb/ft from 1500rpm :D

Suspect we will get them, all tunes give 40lb/ft down low, I reported this with a dyno graph to prove when I flashed the canned SCT tune. :)

We should get them by March latest next year, Stage 2 is nice for sure, will take a UK car to around 440BHP / 420lbft and be a much nicer drive, also give you flat shifting ability too.

Stage 3 is great for top-end power, good 50+ horsepower at 7500rpm, a good option as all with a warranty and once in the UK will mean you can even order a new car with this kit and have the dealer pre-flash the car for you when taking delivery with full warranty.

Even if Ford in UK decided to offer pre-modified cars, for example for £39,950, you could get a V8 GT manual PP car pre-installed with FRPP track suspension kit, FRPP stage 2 remap, you'd have a vastly more capable car, even more so if the Pzero gets changed to MPSS as well. All of a sudden the weaknesses of the car go away and its still under 40k. :)

If I was running a dealership here in UK, I'd be pushing Ford UK/US massively just to allow the ability to offer an upgraded Mustang with warranty on the forecourt using the above, because the handling kit and remap makes quite a transformation to the car. I'd also throw on the FRPP sport quad exhaust with rear valance as well to have the sound department fully covered. End of the day they are all factory USA options and are three very basic options that transform the cars performance, handling and sound along with making it look vastly better.

Gibbo, got yours back yet?

Nope.
The new oil cooler arrived with Ford but was missing o-rings, should have come with them. So the dealership is struggling to source just the corrrect o-rings as there is no part number for them. Service manager is going to a parts store tomorrow to buy o-rings of correct size.

I also told them can't see no issue with just re-using the ones from damaged oil cooler as not like they will be worn.

Hopefully they will have an update for me tomorrow as once they have these they can sort it out and told me will done straight away as its not a big job.

 Muppets. Let's hope you get it back soon.

Still massively temped by one of these even though i'm currently looking at 640d's (yes, complete opposite end of the car ownership scale!).
The customisation, the likes of which you've exhibited, is one of the most massive draws as is the fact that...well...bugger it...V8!!!

I did NC500 past few days with a group of Mustang owners, there was 13 cars if I remember, all Mustangs except my BMW. Not one Mustang was the same, everyone had a different exhaust, stripes, other mods etc.

As good as the M3 was against well driven Mustangs it simply could not keep up, particular on the bumpy poor roads, but to say the Mustang is very capable on some typical UK roads and even more so with the kind of mods I have done.

Trip was awesome, the BMW was great, but yes I'd have rather being in the Mustang and to all those who say its a big car, no one had any issues on the single track roads along the NC500, the drive was immense fun. :)

Hi there

So I was unsure where to post this, as it was the pre-arranged Mustang NC500 trip, but due to my Mustang developing a hole in the oil cooler put it out of action and the BMW track car had to take its place. So I spent several days and nearly 1500 miles in a bucket seat. Surprisingly I never had any dis-comfort apart from the 500 mile journey home as that took just over 7hrs so my bum was a little numb. Surprising findings from the trip, in a straight line the M3 seems to have the legs on a stock Mustang, but marginal but on the twisty stuff, especially the bumpier roads the M3 simply cannot keep up with a well driven Mustang, it gets deflected too much and due to -3.0 front camber its like being in the ring with Mike Tyson. Still did I have fun, YES huge amounts, would I have preferred to be in my Mustang, yes to that as well, but the BMW did great for an old girl and even though she was pushed hard, she still returned 28mpg on the entire trip, door to door with an average speed of 55mph.

Here is some of the photos I got which feature Mustang more than M3, because of course it was a Mustang meet:

What was really cool was how UK owners have embraced Mustang ownership just like US owners as every single car was modified in some way or other, whether it was just down to a badge change, a Shelby wheel or a full suspension over haul they were all modified in some way or other. It was also cool that nearly every car had a different exhaust system on it, so they all sounded different, but all so epic sounding, well the V8 ones anyway. ;)

It was incredible fun, I want to do it again, but in a Mustang because it is as if those roads were built to be driven in a Mustang, they absolutely ate the roads up in their stride and handled superbly well even on some of the bumpiest and really complex roads.

Fantastic time and fuel wise I spent less than £200, about £300 in hotels and couple hundred quid on food. Great trip and great company as everyone got along so. :)

I can seriously recommend NC500 to anyone, no matter what car you own, do it, DO IT NOW, incredible views and everyone was so accommodating. It really is so awesome that the UK has some truly epic places to visit like this, some of the scenes were like the brochure shots you see of Canada. :)
