Need advice on problem with new Graphics card

I've got another topic on trying to fix this issue however it's been persistent and nothing in that topic has fixed the issue.

I have bought a new graphics card from overclockers: MSI ATI Radeon HD 6850 Cyclone Power Edition.

I installed it using an anti-static wrist band and was extremely careful, if the issue is a hardware one then it is through no reasonable fault of my own.

I have updated the graphics card drivers, my bios, my chipset drivers ,reinstalled the os and removed my cpu overclock.
The temperature is fine, (sits at about 32-36C, runs at about 55C), my power is fine (650W corsair PSU), my voltages are all fine.

Nothing in the event log seems to be particularly suspicious although I do get the re-occurrence of event ID 11:
Custom dynamic link libraries are being loaded for every application. The system administrator should review the list of libraries to ensure they are related to trusted applications.

The problem:
My display keeps crashing.

Generally it's stable if I'm just browsing the desktop (it still crashes sometimes though)

If I go to play a game it crashes about half the time. If I actually get onto the game I can be playing for an hour straight and it may still not crash, although often it will at some point, if it hasn't crashed after about an hour and a half it probably won't crash, and then I can even play other games and it'll almost definitely be completely stable.

Loading a save can cause the crash or just opening the game. Minimising and maximising often causes a crash.

When I actually get onto the game it's very smooth with no problems.

Sometimes running certain applications (most notably cpu-z when it's starting) it can crash, but most of the time for the same applications it'll be fine.

It can run msi kombustor benchmark fine (it's worked every time i've tried) but seems to crash in heaven benchmark (it's crashed every time i've tried).

I don't get a BSOD, the display just dies in one of three ways:

- Lines of colours will appear on the screen, they can be anything from light pink to dark grey, always the same colour in each individual crash but in different shades.

- The screen will go blank/black

- The screen will go white (this is the rarest, it's only happened 2 or three times)

It doesn't seem to crash in safe-mode.

I also just took the card out and put it back in but the crashes are still happening just as much.

Anyway, I've tried everything, what should I do? what could be causing the problem? Anything is appreciated.

I also think it points towards a problem with drivers. Have you tried using Driver Sweeper to fully remove your previous drivers? Once you've done that, try using the most up-to-date drivers, if you're still having the problem, run driver sweeper again to fully remove the drivers and then install an older version of the driver (not the latest). Do not use the 'roll back driver' button in device manager.

+1

I've used Driver sweeper every time and have installed version 11.11 and version 11.8 and in both cases I've got crashes and in each case I used driver sweeper to uninstall the drivers...

Although, every time I then run the catalyst install it says I had errors in the install, here is the report it brings up, although I see no errors, the only dodgy thing it would look like to me is that in other devices it looks like it's seeing another card. The error messages part is meant to be blank, I haven't removed anything. My old card was a radeon hd 4650 by the way.

Here's the report:

I had one problem with my 5770 earlier in the year. It wouldn't get the resolution right for my monitor and I used DS and it did jack crap. I reinstalled drivers, uninstalled the whole card via device manager and nothing...

i had to reinstall windows to fix it...

there was a thread on here a few weeks back i helped a guy out with, he had a similar problem with his gigabyte gtx460... turned out to be the card itself...

Yea, I am starting to think it's the card aswell. What I posted up there, you'd think if it was just a software issue one of those would have definitely fixed it however the problem persists and is exactly the same in every way from when I first put the card in. After reinstalling literally my whole system including the BIOS the problem is still exactly the same.

Could you link me to that topic? And what do you suggest I do? Phone up MSI? or OCuk?

Yea, thing is, this card, I got out of the box on Wednesday and installed it. It's brand new, so if it's a hardware fault then it's because it's faulty, not because it's old or anything.

I'm unsure what to do now... I guess I should put my old card back in since I need my pc for work and it's very hard to work when it's crashing every half hour.

Anyway, as I was saying, as it's probably a hardware fault who are the right people to contact?

Tried increasing the voltages on the card?

EDIT:
May as well RMA it.

that just proves the card isn't stable at it's stock speed and that the card is totally screwed... no point overclocking it just to get a card stable... opposite of what you should do in the situation... only increase the volts to get the card stable when overclocking...

RMA it dude

What I would do if it was me:

I know it's a pain, but it's quicker than sending anything back, first reinstall windows, then the ati driver(AMD Catalyst Install Manager, AMD Display Driver and Catalyst Control Center nothing else!), MB drivers including lan etc, then sound drivers in that order, then install 1 game that's worked in the past with no issues using your previous card or Heaven(as you said it crashes every time) and nothing else unplug all usb's apart from mouse and keyboard and try the card again!

You may have a software/hardware conflict somewhere that's causing problems with your gpu.

It's a possibility that there is something else wrong in your system!

If it's still not working then I wouldn't RMA it, DSR(before 7 working days pass) it and tell them you are DSR'ing it as you think it's faulty, if the cards not faulty you will be liable for a testing fee and return postage

He could test his memory via windows diagnostic tool to see if the memory is faulty, but that is unlikely and also try a chkdsk /f to fix any hard drive errors

to me, it sounds like a faulty card.
