Need For Speed series come to an end?

I played through it again a few years back on XP, I don't remember the textures being especially poor (at least not the car textures). However I did have a problem whereby I couldn't select my chosen resolution, because the game only gives you a choice of something like 22 graphics modes, and because it lists the 16bit modes first, there wasn't enough room to fit in the high-res 32bit modes. Even so I still perservered and played in 800x600 or something silly, as IMO it's the best driving game ever.

Regarding the decision to can the NFS series (if that has indeed happened), I can't help but wonder if this is linked to the fact that the EA Blackbox studio is being scaled down and relocated (should be back up and running mid-2009). A few weeks ago EA announced a patch for Undercover was in the works, but I'm very sceptical about whether that will actually see the light of day now.

I can't speak for all nvidia cards but certainly on a Geforce4 Ti, and on a 9600GT, the cars look rather appalling compared to how they used to look on my old systems when the game came out, ie. Voodoo3 and Geforce2 MX. The difference isn't subtle, it is very stark.

Guess whos back this year 3 new nfs series

I didn't think it'd be possible for them to flog the NFS series anymore than they already have been, each new installment is a fresh lump of excrement.
3 new ones? Sigh, why can't they just leave it?

Yeah from what I can see, we're getting:

1) A sim
2) A Nintendo-only game
3) Some kind of MMO with very little said about the actual gameplay. EA tried this before with Motor City Online (originally it carried the NFS moniker), which I don't believe was overly successful.

So basically, nothing especially NFSey then, i.e. a good single player arcade racer.

The top one? It looks like Pro Street.

I really hope EA don't just drop the franchise. I would hate to see the series die completely. But they do need a totally new direction with it all, it's just the same old stale crap.

i fancy playing a racing game now, too much character based running around killing this, collecting that for me recently..

So is getting NFS: Most Wanted the way to go? last racing game i played was either carbon or flatout ultimate carnage.
