Awesome time NIKAZ. Just wondering, given the amount of time you spend playing racing games, and the fact you are so good at them, have you never been tempted to get a wheel? I dread to think you could go too much faster with one but it has made a huge difference to my enjoyment of this game, and I find it much more immersive with my G25
Cheers Dan,
To be honest with you Shift is the first racing game I've enjoyed playing for ages, years in fact. It offers a near perfect challenge in the Sim/Arcade bracket without sacrificing enjoyment levels. Sims like GTR you have to put a lot of effort (tuning & time) in to achieve any level of success. They're more hardcore & serious..... less fun.
Other games I've liked include Porsche Unleashed (2000) & Test Drive Unlimited (for different reasons) both developed by Eden Studios. The original TOCA by Codemasters & the original Need for Speed - Road & Track Presents, all in the Sim/Arcade bracket.
Gran Turismo & Forza are very good games let down by the lack of speed & immersion when compared to Shift imo.
Shift has it's flaws but the things it gets right, immersion, sense of speed & enjoyment win it over for me.
When the next racing game comes out I like I'll get a wheel, probably the G25/27 as they get high praise from everybody.
At the moment I can't justify getting a wheel for one game.

Much appreciated nikaz, i will give them a whirl in abit :)
No probs
Around the 'Carousel' the long right curve, try & follow the racing line. On entry you should be nearly maxing 3rd gear. Follow the line & when it turns red change up to 4th. Now start feathering the throttle to keep on the line. When you see the apex on the right leading to the mini straight FULL throttle letting the car ease out to the left on exit. You can take/use the curb here. Drive onwards snatching 5th just before the curbing on the left for the fast 'Kink' right. This is taken in 5th FULL throttle.

Any other corners you want help with just shout.

Well done inam & danswan for hitting the low 59's.
Good show everybody for being within 10's of my time, especially those within 5's. It was a tough combo for learning throttle control.

This week's challenge should be very close. The Renault is a very easy car to drive & has a surprising level of grip with very little understeer for a FWD. I expect somewhere around 1.5 to 2's separating the top 10.

Probably a stupid question, are we just using the stock car? Or upgrading it and just not using works?

You can upgrade as much or as little as you want.
mercyless didn't specify 'Works Converted' so you can upgrade the car to level 3 upgrades & use NOS or you can fully upgrade i.e. 'Works Convert' but you lose NOS capability.

Personally I'm using 'Works Converted'.

You hit that with no tuning?

Well here's my first attempt after tuning. I'm now going to try with default tuning and yes it's Works Converted for me :D
<snip>

Default Tuning
T-1 Slight dab on the brakes - Drop to 5th
T-2 No brakes - Drop to 5th
T-3/4 Slight dab on the brakes - Drop to 4th (from 5/6th)
T-5 No brakes - Taken in 5th
T-6 Change up to 6th as soon as you start going downhill
T-7 Last corner. When the racing line turns red drop to 5th - No need to brake

For those of you still using auto gears, this week's challenge is the perfect opportunity to try manual.
Very little braking & gear changing required.
Once you're in 4th gear you won't need to drop any lower so you only have to worry about 4th > 5th > 6th then 6th < 5th < 4th. Two gear changes when accelerating, two gear changes when de-accelerating. Also you'll notice when you manually change down a gear the car slows due to 'Engine braking' minimising the use of the brakes too slow the car down.

Oh... turn off ABS (and other aids) you don't need them this week
