^ Need for Speed Shift ^

Jeez how can people **** it off before its even released? It could actually be good you know

Yeah, just like Carbon ''could'' have been good, and Prostreet, and whatever the latest NFS is. Halfway through Most wanted I thought: Damn NFS is boring, and never touched it again. I have given carbon a go: removed within 30 mins. Then tried prostreet demo: got really disappointed. Didn't even bother downloading the newest nfs.

Ooops, someone put an f in shift!

It looks to have potential, but with the tight developing schedule they have set themselves (Typical modern EA) we are going to see another buggy rehash of the same tweaked game engine they have been using for years, which is an appalling abuse of the franchise because the engine is naff on any PC. I wish someone would invest the time into a GT like racing game for the PC.

EDIT: I'd like to be proven wrong, maybe these have been in development before the last shambles of a release and these will be a passable time waster.

Fully agree.

Though, if they manage to somehow undo the damage, I might actually buy it.

Its was not only the fact of having to plaster your car in crap looking **** in order to get a higher visual rating, as well as the horrible camera angle meaning you couldn't see the oncoming car as it was slightly further down the hill than you, meaning you ran straight into it and lost the race.

Lol, I liked all those body mods :p.

Its more like PGR than Forza but read the interview for yourself from AutoSimSport Vol5
This game uses a complete new engine and physics as well.

Its done by a VERY talented bunch of guys that did GTR and GT Legends.
They were called "Blimey" and were doing a very much wanted PC game called "Ferrari Project"
Blimey went into receivership.

The guys involved are now known as "Slightly Mad Studios"

If this is true then this game will be very good indeed. From the graphics it looks pretty good. Hopefully the handling will be super realistic much like GTR Evo :)

And I hope I can use my G25 with it too along with the clutch :)

Seeing that this done by the GT Legends/GTR2 team I can only imagine that it will be one up from Grid interms of driving realism though EA will surely have to rein it in a little(like damge) in order to be able to shift ( :) ) these. Still I think it will be a worthwhile addition. Hope doing this for EA gives Slightly Mad the resourses to finish off the Ferrari project which promised to be epic for sim fans.

i thought GRID was superb, it was a pure arcade adrenaline type rush with amazing graphics... i agree it was nothing else but for what it was it was brilliant, to expect it to have sim type handling or racing would be naive ..

rFactor and GTr games are fantastic and i can spend allday shaving off seconds or tenths around the same track, however there are people out there who want a different experience...

NFS Shift' from the interviews looks like its going to be a GRID with the approach of say Sony GT games which is something the PC market is in need of, we already have an abundance of realstic games out there....

this game might be good , might be bad but until weve sampled it we wont know, so what if its EA

I like the looks of it for sure after being terribly disappointed with Pro Street and Undercover. Does look very similar to Grid though which imo is not a bad thing.
I really hope they have got themselves a decent engine though as the one they've used since MW at least is terribly prone to unstable frame rates. I can run Burnout Paradise much smoother than Most Wanted despite looking better.
Also hoping they add support for the XBox 360 pad which is sorely missing in all the NFS series and Simbin titles.

how strange 18 in europe 21st in usa usually other way around

UK dev teammight have the edge on that aspect maybe, but these things are never set in concrete til it lands on your doorstep tbh.

I real the AutoSimSport article it it sounds like they've got the right attitude and direction but I feel the content might lack as the dev times seems too short and EA will either con us with DLC to get what the finished game should be like or have SHI"F"T 2 6 months down the line.

I truely hope the dev team use their time available wisely and put their foot down if their not happy with it. I'd rather wait for a decent game than let them muddy the franchise some more.

*shudders*

How GRID and SIM can go in the same sentence is beyond me.

Said it in post 32. The car handling is dire.

PF
So what if the game turns out to be like PGR or basically an arcade fun drive thats exciting flash and very fast.
Its sometimes fun just to have an exciting easy to get into game, just remember how racing games started in the beginning eh
Night Driver - Pole Position - Final Lap - Out Run - Chase HQ - Ridge Racer all very sim games wernt they, but where they fun, see what im saying.

If you want sim physics then plenty of options their, even iracing which is coming along nicely and thats full of sim heads to play with that pay for the privledge.

As Typhoon knows Im in the process of designing/building my own sim cockpit.
With it employing triplehead and also a projector by the time the hardware, system and components are all accounted for its going to be using £4000+ worth so im with you on loving sims or car games in general. Thats a lot to invest into the love of racing games so few if anyone here wants the next batch of games including this one to be great as much as i do.

The car handling is more than dire, and the scary thing is is that Codemasters are going to give F1 2009 the same handling treatment. I hope they don't...

As for this, if it's got the guys behind GTR/L behind it then I can at least be certain that it's in good hands simulation wise but if they're wanting it like GRiD's handling then I'm gasping already. GRiD was so frustrating, Codemasters have said that it's a Sim with it tweaked enough so that arcade players can play it, but they completely hashed it up.

Oh yeh I'll have no problem with it if it comes out as a pure arcade game and admits it. That doesn't bother me in the least :)
I just don't believe pick up and play and Sim go in the same sentence :p

I'll definitely be giving the game a shot anyway just for the graphics. lol.

I loved GRID, but thought Need for speed undercover was pretty pants.

I can play the NFS series with the directional buttons on the keyboard.
At first, I thought GRID was atrocious, but then I bought a Xbox 360 controller for my pc, and now I think GRID is amazing. NFS handles better with the keyboard though...

Just my opinion.

I am using (terribly) a Xbox 360 pad on all the Simbin games till my whelel arrives and it works a treat even the rumble effects. Didn't need to set it up in game, GTR2/Race/EVO all recognise and configure it automatically.

what are you smoking pal? the ridge racer games were never seen as anything other than arcade style racers and thats what they were promoted as.

remember how you drifted around corner in ridge racer? all the other games mentioned were arcade style games out run and chase HQ were probably arcade games before anything else :D

pole position is debatable though i dont think anything back then was considered realistic myself

I think you read it wrong i was jesting that a game doesnt HAVE to be a SIM to be fun.
Do you seriously think Pole Position was a sim, lol.

If its being marketed as a SIM take that with a pinch of salt as its a popular term for console racers these days and people in marketing have to do what they do.
It wont be anymore sim than PGR or GT5 and those that expect it to be well i guess they are going to be let down.

Yes it will have sim aspects but as this is a mass market console product its not going to be anything close to PC simness imo but then i dont even want it to be.
