^ Need for Speed Shift ^

I doubt you would get a refund but ebay and play resale should work well whilst it has just been released. You'll loose something but it shouldn't be too much.

Enjoying the demo - can't wait for the game to arrive now

Anybody else having problems with the gearing on certain cars using the G25 with H shifter? Whenever i try the Corvette Z06 Vs 911GT3 Rs car duel, i can't even get off the start line. It just revs and wont move.

I'm also having problems with the Rx7. Sometimes the gearing is perfect and other times i get wheel spin in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and it tops the rev range in 6th on the straights, and other tiimes 5th & 6th are swapped round 5th is a faster top speed than 6th on the long straights, and other times it struggles on the straights in 5th never mind 6th. Definitely bugged.

EDIT. Posted from the EA forums...

My car won’t move from the Start Line!!!!!!
There is a workaround for this: if you are experiencing the issue in the Ford GT VS Viper SRT10 race then go into your garage and return any of your cars that you have tuned usin g the Advanced Tuning options back to their default states. Once you have done this turn off advanced tuning and perform a manual save. You should then be able to use the Viper in the invitational event. If you have bought either the Corvette or Viper and they fail to start then reset the advanced tuning options you have applied to that vehicle to default, then turn off advanced tuning and then perform a manual save.
We will find a better solution ASAP!

Saw this game occupying the number one place on the charts in a well known high street gaming store. I'm excited about this game. I can't wait till I get it in my hands!

The final nail in this games coffin for me was playing the demo of forza, just makes the handling of shift feel terrible, never could get used to it though, car just seems to slide for no reason....

I feel almost guilty at the ease with which Shift runs on my games machine (e6600@3GHz, 260GTX, WinXP, G25), and at the incredible amount of immersive fun I've had over the last week or so. I wish I could share a bit of that with everyone having problems, because I honestly think this is the most 'serious fun' I've ever had in a game/sim.

Ok, Shift has physics which seem to flatter the driver a little too much, but I still think they've done a great job of finding a middle ground which can -- if given a chance -- appeal to all. And the cockpit experience, to me anyway, is the best I've had in any sim. The sense of speed is amazing IMO... the first sim to realistically capture that. Even iRacing, the physics benchmark, fails to convey the speed you're travelling at and therefore fails to grab me the way Shift does.

However I am only a PC-only gamer (I've never owned or spent much time with consoles), and have only ever used cockpit views to race (well, ok since 'Powershift' on the BBC Micro :-). So I might be an unrepresentative audience sample.

I agree with you, the game is superb and immersive but i guess its just a little too difficult for some to play. We know the handling is fantastic and bridges the gap between full on sim and arcade in a way that you cant simply pick a car and just belt it round a track. The game requires you to think about each corner and approach it with the car at the right speed and angle, otherwise like in most real life situations your just going off the track into a barrier !

the game definately has that 'marmite factor', but the test for me was a bitter console mate who refused to give the game time, hated the handling and spent most the time whinging and blaming bad coding for not being able to drive. However after playing with the G25 for a good couple of 3-4hr session's he's bought the game on the PC haha..

in other news....

i bought the game from the EA Store and used a £10 coke-cola token, apparantly this was the CE and had an extra car/liveries which i never recieved a code for.. today i got a message from EA support with a new serial which includes said car so ive ended up with two working copies of the game for £20... result !

Tried this game properly for the first time last night with the G25.
Absolutely LOVE the lotus Elise. The sense of racing in this game is the most realistic I have ever had, probably even more than Gran Turismo imho.

The cockpit view is clostraphobic (sp?) but damn its good fun :)

I wasn't going to get pulled back in to this discussion because I have made all my points but I just had to comment on the above statement, because it's quite simply not true. I don't find it 'too difficult to play', I just find it crap :)

So your saying you enjoy the fact that when you simply want to move the car on a straight road from one side of the track to the other side to get better driving line into the next corner you have to power slide across to do it?

yawn  , if i was going to refer to you i would use your name, dont be so tetchy !! i thought you'd left the thread anyways? you've repeated yourself over and over and over but i guess with so many of us singing the games praises and declaring our love for it you couldnt resist some more trolling ?

if you look back you will see tons of forum members enjoying the game, happily discussing setups and the games merits, theres even a thread open dedicated to time trials and such.

shame you cant bring anything worthwhile to the thread..

I realise you weren't talking to me in particular, but your point that some people don't like it 'because they find it too difficult to play it' just isn't true :)

You need to go and learn what trolling means. Correcting somebody on a point that isn't true is not trolling. But this is OcUK, where anybody who doesn't agree with somebody's point is a troll

I'm not denying some people like the game

shame you cant bring anything worthwhile to the thread..

And shame you can't take anybody disagreeing with your points without getting defensive and resorting to childish insults like 'troll'. I could be just as childish and call you a fanboy because you can't take any criticism of your beloved Shift.

Anyway, I'm not going to repeat my points, I just wanted to correct you on something that was patently not true. I've done that now :)

You have the settings wrong if that's what you need to do. I can easily make a subtle turn to move from one side of the track to the other without sliding all over the place.

I'll admit that i'm enjoying it a lot more now than at first. Now i've had a taste of the Zonda and Mcaren F1, this has gone from a pretty good game to a bloody brilliant game IMO. It has what all the sims are lacking. A fairly realistic car handling psychics with great graphics all in one. MY main gripe about the game is the way the cars slide instead of drive round corners, but they gotta keep the console players happy i suppose by making it arcady and 'easy to drive'

I don't find it 'too difficult to play', I just find it crap :)

That's because you're using a crappy joypad.
